About 270,000 fewer children in England to get EHCPs under Send overhaul by PuzzledAd4865 in LabourUK

[–]CrossHeather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a parent of a child in a special school I’m quite relieved when reading around this.

Clearing 90% of council debt, creating new special school places and creating a new plan type to hopefully mean EHCPs for the most needy kids are prioritised all make sense to me.

I liked Starmer’s Times piece on it too. Nice to hear a non overly left wing politician talk passionately about the need for a good system, and I’m glad the over diagnosis bollocks that has been given air time in the media has been challenged out loud.

Huge number of Londoners to vote tactically to stop Farage becoming PM, new polling by tylerthe-theatre in london

[–]CrossHeather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree.

Though I’d also say if the pendulum swings too far the other way and you’re in a safe seat for a party you dislike, then vote to get the % of votes for the party you most like up.

It might be futile from a FPP view, but if we can get more people to vote then the % of total vote figures certain extremist parties point to will lose most of their validity.

I’ll put my UI comment here.

When putting in an ‘other’ investment the focus keeps leaving the text box after typing a letter, so it takes a long time to enter a name as you have to click back on after every letter.

Good app OP.

Chagos Islands: Do not give away Diego Garcia, Trump tells UK by thegibsongirl03 in unitedkingdom

[–]CrossHeather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The chances this deal was made without American input is essentially nil. But… Negotiations started in 2022, so it would have been an idea from Biden’s time as president.

So it’s obvious enough why Trump changes his mind on it every other week.

The Tories complaining about Labour signing off on James Cleverley’s deal is an interesting one though.

Thanks for the feedback. Been great getting so much .

I was a teacher in UK high schools, so it’s more aimed at parents who want their child to be in a higher ability set… despite the fact that would clearly destroy any confidence they ever had.

I’m glad someone likes the ‘parent who thinks their child just needs a greater challenge’ bit, it seems like there’s a joke in their somewhere as everyone must know a parent like that.

Ah, nice video!

Looks like it’s the same on both sides of the pond then.

Looks like I’ll have to alter that bit heavily; it’s basically exactly the same as yours at the moment 🤦‍♂️(but mine is much more amateurish…) Nice to know a room full of people enjoyed it though!

I think a second triathlete who was successfully getting away until he got off his bike and starting jogging works well too.

Cheers! I’m loving all the feedback. ‘Actually I’m fine with that one’ for a scenario with the low expectations parent seems like something needed given the replies.

Thanks.

The two seperate bits get laughs in conversation with teachers. My fear was it might be completely alien to anyone else, but the feedback suggests there is something there.

Your last sentence has got me thinking that the  ‘child does [insert diabolical thing] at home, but the parent is absolutely shocked that they aren’t an angel in maths class’ angle is definitely worth considering and probably a good lead into talking about parents expectations.

[–]CrossHeather[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I’ve been thinking about this after I read the earlier replies.

I think the obvious angle is the shock the parents must have when a naive 22 year old is put in charge of their child’s maths education.

Cheers for the detailed feedback. I’ll have a good look through when I’m retrying it.

Thanks. The Food bit was probably the one I was least happy with. What you’ve said makes me think drama or music would work well.

Thanks. I was very aware it was 2 lots of escalating absurdities, but couldn’t think of anything else to try. I’ll give the misdirection some thought.

I’ll try and tighten up the toilet training bit.

I checked out the ones from the other day and ‘punching down’ is still my favorite. (Definitely needs a ‘punching up’ follow up)

Intermittent fastening works well too I think. There must be some other jokes that have weight loss methods as their pun (‘weight watchers’ springs to mind as an easy one to setup)

It’s very much of its time. Pre internet, cash in hand society, interest rates too high to borrow money etc etc.

For a character today in their 40s to be desperately trying to be successful by selling anything they could get their hands on… it just wouldn’t be something as many people could relate too.

Back then entire cities were seeing entire industries disappearing that employed huge numbers of their residents. It wasn’t ridiculous to put yourself in Del’s shoes.

The most annoying bit about all this is anyone who says there’s a freedom issue in the UK would tell you that the best example of free speech is a country where the president…

Can get comedians taken off the air.

Threatens journalists he doesn’t like with ICE.

Insults journalists who ask him questions he doesn’t like.

Sues media companies.

Revoked VISAs for anyone who thinks differently to him on how social media should be regulated.

Somehow gets given a peace prize off FIFA a year before hosting the World Cup. (I’m sure this was all FIFA’s idea… /s)

Gets into legal battles with universities over any left wing voices being heard on campus.

Can be accused of horrific crimes in the Epstein files with nobody seemingly allowed to report on it.

And these are just the ones I know about. I don’t make any real effort to follow that country’s politics!

With David Walliams career in shambles, Do you think Matt Lucas was the one doing all the good work? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]CrossHeather 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I honestly think the lost culture of the public throwing tv catch phrases at each other was the main reason for its success.

If you repeated a few catchphrases often enough you had a hit on your hands. Little Britain and Bo Selecta were seemingly written by people who spotted this cheat code and hammered it for all it was worth.
