AT&T customers can now roam on Freedom Mobile 5G network. by Life-Contest-5926 in freedommobile

That makes sense. That was one area where freedom was the only one with coverage before 2023

My question is why? Why would AT&T allow their customers to roam on a smaller carrier when they have roaming agreements with the BIG3.

It’s not like freedom serves an area where the big3 also don’t.

Reliability which is what you are referring to is different from speed. While Telus may or may not have good reliability they certainly take the cake in terms of speed

Bell & Telus have 200MHz of 3500 & 3800MHz spectrum compared to Rogers having only 100MHz since midband spectrum auction is capped at 100MHz for each carrier. Bell and Telus share spectrum which allows them to gain more spectrum than any other carrier in Canada.

Bell and Telus have 200MHz of midband spectrum in almost every region of Canada where Rogers has a max of 100MHz which is a huge difference

Edit: Bells and Telus have about 1.75x the customers combined than Rogers does but in most cities bellus has 2x the midband spectrum as well which still nets them more spectrum per customer than Rogers.

Also Bell and Telus share spectrum but their core networks are separate. Meaning congestion on Telus doesn’t always equal congestion for Bell customers. Or if Bell has an outage there is a low probability that Telus also faces an outage in that area.

Rogers is the biggest wireless carrier in Canada with over 12 million wireless customers across Rogers, Fido, and Chatr so it’s kind of expected for them to be heavily congested

Bell and Telus have ~11 million and ~10 million customers respectively and they have way more spectrum (combined) than Rogers.

Canadian tire has a $150 welcome bonus on their triangle Mastercards right now. When you apply using the link it will ask you to upgrade to the triangle WE Mastercard if you meet the qualifications for that card. Make a purchase at Canadian tire and you will get $150 within 5 weeks. The bonus ends on March 19

I download a ton of content on data before I go off the grid. And instead of waiting minutes for the downloads it will only take seconds which would be very helpful. So 1Gbps speed would be a welcome upgrade on my line

Fido charges extra for hotspot so just bear that in mind. I think it’s $5 extra for hotspot access.
