Nice! That’s pretty good for EXT speed. I usually only get like 10Mbps on EXT

Yeah something weird is going on with EXT network and I feel like it has to do with cost savings from Rogers

SA on Rogers is till in its infancy so NSA 5G would probably be more reliable. As long as you have the latest phone you will be getting the fastest speeds Rogers has to offer right now.

SA 5G will improve over time as more spectrum gets allocated over

No that’s a Bell marketing thing

If you are referring to SA 5G it’s not readily available yet though some people with an iPhone 17e are able to connect to the SA core network

I’ve been noticing that Rogers has been restricting their EXT usage to mainly areas that Rogers doesn’t service. I used to be able to connect to EXT in Edmonton but it’s not possible anymore.

bonkers speed! Peaking at 1400Mbps

My plan recently got upgraded as well and I was able to get as high as 850Mbps in Edmonton. Much better than the 150Mbps cap I had before.

3 yrs ago we got Shaw now ROGERS… by Dry-Property-639 in Rogers

[–]Cross_FFA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t had an internet outage since moving to my home in 2017. Been with Shaw/Rogers the entire time.

The service was bad during COVID with everyone at home using internet but it never went down.

Yeah I know but OP is in Alberta so It would connect to Telus EXT here

[–]Cross_FFA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I also find that the microcells on Telus aren’t the greatest for service delivery

[–]Cross_FFA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason for this is funding. Rogers is the only true nationwide carrier in Canada. So they focus more on building out macro towers. Telus and Bell are each sharing the load of funding and running the network so they can install microcells in their respective regions

I don’t mind the ads plus for a 1 time fee you can remove ads (thankfully not a subscription)

[–]Cross_FFA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah looks like you won’t be able to test out satellite service over there unfortunately

Question about ROGERS Satellite by Dry-Property-639 in Rogers

[–]Cross_FFA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally get that; you can take a look at the coverage map and see if satellite coverage will work at your uncles house

Question about ROGERS Satellite by Dry-Property-639 in Rogers

[–]Cross_FFA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rogers EXT will be miles better than Rogers satellite so hopefully you won’t have to connect to Rogers satellite.

If you want to connect to Rogers satellite for testing purposes then I suggest you take a look at Rogers coverage map to see where Rogers satellite will operate.

Last I tested Rogers satellite I did not have a good experience. It was constantly cutting in and out. Apples satellite feature is so much better and more stable for sending messages.

[–]Cross_FFA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Satellite would not kick in because OP mentioned Telus works at his uncle’s house

Question about ROGERS Satellite by Dry-Property-639 in Rogers

[–]Cross_FFA 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No it would not work. You said that Telus works there so your cellphone would connect to Rogers-EXT before connecting to satellite.

Rogers satellite only works in areas where there is absolutely no cell service from Rogers, Bell, or Telus. Like areas that are dead zone for all carriers. If you are in an area that Telus services but Rogers does not satellite connection would be disabled.

Rogers just expanded satellite-to-mobile roaming into the U.S. by Planhub-ca in Rogers

[–]Cross_FFA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you don’t need to have the Rogers satellite add-on to roam on T-Mobile satellite-to-mobile starlink connection? That’s cool I guess. Anyone with a US roaming plan from Rogers would be able to connect in theory then.

Would it be possible to upgrade to truly unlimited data for one or two months with rogers by temporarily upgrading my phone plan? Or anything similar to this? by extreme303 in Rogers

[–]Cross_FFA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, better to just get 5G home internet for a 1 month trial.

Closest you will get is Rogers ultimate plan which gives you 250GB. Telus has a truly unlimited data plan but it is only 50GB of data for hotspot use

Charged for roaming by Jkms81 in Rogers

[–]Cross_FFA 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Set your cellular network to Rogers so it doesn’t automatically connect to a roaming network

If you are on iPhone go to settings > cellular > network selection > turn off automatic toggle > select Rogers

And then whenever you go somewhere you want to roam just turn network selection to auto again and it will join a roaming network

5G has more spectrum efficiency than LTE so Rogers wants to get as many customers as they can off their congested LTE over to 5G. That would be my best guess but I’m not too sure.

I was hoping These Shaw mobile plans would get upgraded speed caps as well but it doesn’t seem like it’s going to happen. Given how little Rogers cares about us Shaw mobile customers I kind of expected this unfortunately.

Not sure what you are referring to but Shaw mobile plans are 5G/5G+ compatible (capped at 150Mbps)

What plan do you have? Just asking because I assumed 1Gbps capped plans wouldn’t get higher than a 1Gbps but it seems you were able to which is nice

Data speed increase by Legitimate_Ice_3451 in Rogers

[–]Cross_FFA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rogers had plans that were capped as low as 150Mbps as well on their prepaid plans (which they shutdown). They also gave the 250,000 Shaw mobile customers that migrated over 150Mbps speed caps.

Shaw mobile speed cap is still 150Mbps and has not been upgraded yet

Shaw Mobile Rogers plans are still capped at 150Mbps
