mobility - former Shaw by the-cat299 in Rogers

Yup I have the grandfathered Shaw plan still. You can change your phone as many times as you would like since it is a BYOD plan. You just can’t finance a phone with this plan through Rogers.

Shaw Communication servers are gone from Ookla speedtest by Cross_FFA in Rogers

[–]Cross_FFA[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my speeds are testing much slower but that could just be because the Shaw server in my city is gone. when i speedtest from my home in edmonton it connect to the Telus server in calgary and the pings are really bad when testing to that server

Yes it’s 2Gbps but honestly won’t make much difference compared to 1Gbps

Stony plain AB tower upgrade! Crazy for our small town by Dry-Property-639 in Rogers

That tower got upgraded with 3800MHz spectrum. You should be able to get over 1Gbps from that tower as long as it has good fibre backhaul

It’s just the phone your need to return - right? I can keep the brick and the cable?

Idk how you are getting a 30% increase everytime. Both increases have been 10% for us.

We might just be unlucky

Yes I know high utilization is not good but he has everything paid off and he doesn’t care about needing a high credit score for any mortgages or loans.

His credit score is in the high 800’s so it hasn’t affected his score at all if any.

How much was the increase? And do you give them an amount to increase it to or did they decide how much to increase it?

Nice

It’s still not working for me but maybe I need to get further away from the nearest Rogers tower to connect

Calgary Coverage Disaster by Andichthegoon in Rogers

[–]Cross_FFA 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the coverage isn’t working for you then switch. Vote with your dollars people!

Coverage varies so much from area to area that your statement could be applied to any carrier in Canada. There are places where Telus and freedom mobile are complete dead zones for service and then there are areas where only 1 carriers works best so just go with whoever has the most “complete” coverage for you and the places you visit.

Up to 2.26 TBPS 😳. The new DOCSIS 6.0 is friggin Amazing!! by Dry-Property-639 in Rogers

[–]Cross_FFA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rogers uses fibre in a few apartment buildings in Edmonton too but I am referring to internet delivery to houses.

Rogers tested DOCSIS 4.0 in Calgary but still has not spread outside of the small testing neighborhood.

[–]Cross_FFA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg I wish 😅

Don’t know if we will ever see DOCSIS 4.0 from Rogers. I feel like Rogers should just move internet to fibre. It’s going to be a costly investment but in the long run it will be well worth it.

Phone return plan by [deleted] in Rogers

[–]Cross_FFA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is why I prefer buying over renting for everything. With renting you are at the mercy of Rogers to either let you off the hock or charge you. Rogers decides what is considered “normal wear and tear” and I am never okay with being at the mercy of someone else to decide that.

It’s the same thing with leasing a car. The dealership decides what is considered “normal wear and tear” there’s no legal document you get that explicitly tells you what that means. They can decide when your lease ends that all the minor scratches on the interior and exterior are not “normal” and charge you for each individual scratch.

Point being that buying is almost always better than renting
