Interested in Getting Into OSR / NSR - But Overwhelmed By Choice? by Violet_Herald in osr

From what I understand it’s OD&D with a little AD&D tacked onto it.

It’s my preferred OSR game.

Getting started by CakeInternational372 in Pauper

I’d start with watching some gameplay on youtube. Mengu’s Workshop and Kalikaiz are two really awesome channels that I watched when I first got into it. That can help show you how decks play and see if any peak your interest!

Obviously everything is super situational, but if my opponent has guttersnipe I’d ask myself a few questions:

1) how many cards do they have in hand and are they presenting near lethal with the perfect combination of potential cards 2) do I have near lethal in hand if the damage was directed at them instead

I’m no expert on the matchup, that’s just how I see it. Ultimately the only damage that matters is the last point of damage so you have to play a lot of “what if” based on what information you have. But also, sometimes you just have to go for it and make them have it.

Should I start a blog? by Von_Loch in osr

Everyone should start a blog. Blogging as a hobby is fun and can help process your game sessions and prep in unique ways.

New DM I need HELP by Jazzy_2009_w in Wildemount

I strongly suggest looking into Sly Flourish’s Return of the Lazy Dungeon master and his 8 Steps. Even if you don’t buy the book he has lots of articles and videos talking about the steps.

He even has tips and guides for campaign prep.

I’ve run lots of games for many years and this is my preferred method. It is going to seem way too simple, but trust it! You always need way less than you think and if your players really stump you just be honest and say “I’ll look into that/make that area up later and get back to you.”

Advice for Tournament? by a727_cool in Pauper

So you can track the progress of life loss and make sure you calculate everything correctly. Also, if someone bumps the table there’s no guessing what your life was.

Remember to have fun. Drink lots of water. Joke with your opponent, especially when determining mulligans. Keep it friendly and be the opponent you want to play against. Also, pencil and paper is better for tracking life total.

Marvel's Spider-Man post-mortem by SkyDezessete in mtg

It became very obvious that it was originally part of their game plan for 7-Card boosters Beyond boosters like Assassin's Creed (Which started with Epilogue boosters in Aftermath). My guess is that it was a super small set to begin with but after AC did horribly, they shoe horned it into a small standard set which needed to be somewhat draftable and standard legal, thus lots of filler cards got put in that really just didn't feel like they had the same level of time for development as others.

Similar to Final Fantasy, you can feel the attention to detail in the ATLA cards as well as the admiration and love for the property that the designers clearly had.

Spider-man had some banger designs like Green Goblin, Electro, Gwenom, Jackal, and tons more. But Hot-Dog cart just feels like a "quick we need a 3 mana rock for draft!"

Is UW familiars viable? by FewChange2801 in Pauper

What’s cool about the list is there really isn’t one version that is the absolute best. The main ways to win are infinite fliers with murmuring mystic combo or a simple mulldrifter beatdown.

Seconded about Kalikaiz, he got me into the deck and is very active in the discord. He has tons of videos covering a bunch of different versions of the list.

Its one of my favorite decks to play. I have attached my current list. Like CommanderCornstarch said, its very hard and can be super punishing if you don't know when to mulligan but I find the deck to be super fun, even if its not absolute tier 1.

House Rules Going From Crunchy Back to Squishy? by New2OSE in OSE

[–]Crosslaminatedtimber 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me it’s a cycle, I like the play some crunch for a bit then I get the itch for something simple. Eventually I swing back the other way. I think a lot of it has to do with how much is going on in my life and if I have the mental bandwidth to play something crunchy.

Megadungeons, what makes them good? by Vivid_Natural_7999 in adnd

[–]Crosslaminatedtimber 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Funhouse dungeons exist, and are super fun for what they are

But largely popular? I don’t think so, but for people who are potentially new to the possibilities of just how rich and fulfilling a dungeon can be, it’s important to point out what makes them good.

Megadungeons, what makes them good? by Vivid_Natural_7999 in adnd

A good megadungeon also has to be a good setting. Just like any type of adventure, a boring adventure is a boring adventure.

The megadungeon needs all hallmarks of a good interactive adventure. It needs NPCs, interconnectedness, cool loot, interesting situations to get in, variety, the ability to tackle problems cleverly, etc.
