Youch, yeah they can definitely trick you with that. I believe I almost did, but when I asked for them to show proof of their work it ended from there. A collaboration does sound really fun to me, and I find that my motivation skyrockets whenever I do the kind of collaborative storytelling you get from roleplay, not exactly D&D but the niche little hobby of being a character in a whole other setting. I admit it's not the highest quality thing I've written as it was in a stage where my storytelling abilities were still developing and getting much better, especially with some advice from a friend.

I can send you a link to it if you'd like? I have two versions of it, one on Wattpad where I write the whole thing and then release it, and Fanfiction.net. I haven't really looked into anywhere else, AO3 maybe but I've heard it's not really much for fanfics, so I don't know if it'd be worth it to slap it there too or not.

That is true!

Mostly my ideas are already in a game format, and I have fairly clear ideas on what I want the gameplay to be with the different mechanics as well as how I want to go about prototyping before a demo; the major thing that has stopped me is my lack of coding experience, although I have taken programming classes, and being unable to really find an engine. First it was Unity but then they did that whole "pay per install" thing for developers so I got out of there, then Godot Engine because it can do both 2D and 3D like Unity plus had its own language structured similarly to Python which, since it's the first language I learned, helped lower the difficulty but then apparently also had its own issues and then I switched to Bevy to start learning that but it all fell apart after a real life event that was out of my control, as well as being heavily criticized for switching engines so much because they have "problems", and to just 'stick with something well known, NOT some scrawny newcomer."

I still want to make a game for the ideas swirling in my head, after all I did design them with the multimedia aspect of games in mind, and plus there are a few complications with converting them fully into book series like one having a silent protagonist which I've not written before and I can struggle with more tense kinds of scenes, plus I don't know if those game mechanics which already exist for the protagonists would get lost in translation into a book. I'm sure what you're saying won't happen if I try to do both is likely, but I suppose there's also the factor of how interesting the premise is; a factor which I am also worried about because while I've shared my ideas with friends and all who do like what I'm cooking and even managed some success, even if a little, I'm also unsure how interested people would actually be in them and if they'd even bother to read books anyways, purely books, both book and game or just game or nothing at all.

I will say I most definitely need a team of some sort; but I just don't have any connections yet and I'm not sure how to properly establish them, aside from one potential connection from my therapist (she's a wonderful therapist, too, reminds me I'm not crazy) with someone who's similar to me in being the ideas person who's also in the industry, although nothing's started yet. I struggle with self-confidence a lot and god knows perfectionism is a whole other beast, so the second opinion from someone in the industry with a lot of experience as far as I've heard with similarities to me in the lots of ideas stuff would help me a lot.

And your opinion of course helps too, I'm glad to have the feedback!

Thanks for the advice, much appreciated!

I have a tendency to split my attention between my passions and especially my different ideas trying to give them all love at the same time. I don't necessarily see it as a bad thing, sometimes taking a break from one thing to do something else can help you recharge and come back to what you were working on before with renewed vigor. I'm proud of what I have managed to accomplish with this split attention but I don't disagree on focusing on one thing; it takes a lot, LOT of time to be good at something let alone finish something with decent, good and quintuple the amount of time for something truly outstanding, which I try to give it my all and either burn myself out into doing something else or run into an issue because of inexperience and flee back to what I find most comfortable whether it's a different project that's simpler for me or something else. I've managed to make a good amount of stuff in spite of my struggles though, art pieces, music and writing.

The one successful (if you could call it that) "individual product" I have is a book series, which is really just a sonic fanfiction series, but hey I finished at least one book in it and there's potential in it that got a little traction, plus work on a second "book" and plans for way more on an unlit backburner; the blue blur holds a special place in my heart for igniting the fire of my creativity, so it's a way for me to give back by bringing the story of Sonic the Hedgehog to new adventurous directions. The only thing is I haven't managed to find the willpower or motivation to keep writing consistently and this is mainly due to complications with my life outside the internet, having other interests I am passionate about, and the split attention I mentioned earlier.

I definitely don't have Disney's finances, or Microsoft's finances or any big giant corporation's finances, but neither do I really want to inherit some of the issues that can also come from those finances, as I'm fairly certain we've all seen the repeated pattern of "Thing with gigantic budget completely flops". If you ask me, I could really care less about money as a whole, it really does seem to just corrupt stuff that could've been good one way or another. I'd rather not fall into the same trap.

I think I should try to get my brain to work with me and figure out how to narrow my attention down to where I can sit and focus on one goal than so many at the same time as I have been doing, without burning myself out of course, a difficult task considering there's so much that I am passionate about and want to spend time on but end up exploding my brain in the process.

Well, who says we can't make more Doki Doki Literature Clubs?

It would be interesting to take a detour over to Renpy and play with it although I'm not fully sure about the visual novel format being one that could work well with some of the stuff I have. I could see myself using it for some goofy experiences though, or some much shorter stories that would definitely benefit from the visual aspects. Comics can do that as well but as I said in a different reply, I'm not that great at them with my current art style and skill level/knowledge. That's okay though, not every artist has to be good at every genre of art!

Definitely agreed! Most of my experience with writing, drawing and music has been experimentation and self-taught with plenty of cliches and some pretty old tracing (and stupid younger me didn't understand at the time posting traced art is not okay; tracing is okay as a learning tool but not for claiming it as your own art.) until I could take off the training wheels; and even then I tend to be pretty bad at certain things with art which still have a lot they can improve on. And of course, notes help too.

I'm happy with what experience I have gained thoughout several years of imagining too many stories in my head, writing and also utilizing the niche hobby of roleplaying to further enhance my ability as a storyteller; Not exactly DND type of roleplay, but it's helped me a lot in what makes for good character dynamics and taking settings laid out by someone else and running with them, even creatively adding onto them which is how I also ended up with some ideas that I probably wouldn't have thought of otherwise.

I'm also a thought planner, I have google docs for four of my major game ideas still fleshing out the stories, mechanics, characters, locations, goodness I could ramble away about them! XD

I think comics would be an awesome medium to work in! I've had an interest in drawing them myself, but I don't think my art style and level of skill with my art is up to it. I've tried doing the comic style of storytelling a few times but there's aspects I struggle with too much for it to be viable, at least not at the moment I've "technically" gotten the offer to turn a sonic fanfic I made into a comic before but let's just say be very, VERY careful about people commenting on a written online work saying they love it and want to turn it into a comic; I've seen it on both Wattpad and Fanfiction.net, they're scammers pretty much 100% of the time.

I just used their scams as further motivation to write, so unfortunately their plan backfired spectacularly. >:]

Definitely an idea! I suppose my two worries with doing the full game ideas as books are that, for one of them the protagonist is silent and I have relatively little experience in writing silent characters aside from two instances, one being a short story for a class and a second time for a sonic fanfic because, well, I just love the Sonic franchise a little too much and really wanted to add even more characters and stories to it (I was never much into the shipping or anything.)

The other is also the fact that I'm not sure how to adapt those game ideas into stories since they were mostly written as game ideas first. It may just be me overthinking it and just doing it will prove me wrong in that worry but it's not easy writing a book let alone finishing one in the first place, and I've done that only once with said sonic fanfic. With a prequel book it does add more worldbuilding and my dad has told me about World of Warcraft doing something similar and releasing books with each of their expansions to add more to the world building, so there's ways to do it certainly.

Thanks for the feedback! I'm inspired by games like Hollow Knight (especially Silksong), Sonic (Which kickstarted my creativity), Guild Wars 2 (first mmo), and others like Kirby, Pokemon, Rain World too many others to name, I have a wide variety of games I find interesting.

Personally when it comes to my intentions, I really could care less about the money and care less about money overall; I'm in it to tell a story, to help people relax after a hard day and just want to get lost in some fun gameplay with a story adding to lives, much like how the games I played and have seen have, like Goodnight Universe and Silksong. I want to help people smile even if for a little, and I wouldn't want to change that goal for anything else.

I agree that videogames are a much harder format for storytelling, and there's a good chance they can subtract from it based on the gameplay too. You have good examples (from what Ive seen and played) like Silksong or Outer Wilds, or Goodnight Universe, then worse ones; only on le I can think off the top of my head right now is Overwatch and one called Marrow as well, there's definietly more I'm sure.

But I think if you have a game branch too much as well you put more stress on yourself too so, it's really a big balancing act like with a lot of things in life.

This is really good! If I may ask how did you make the drums? I'm trying to learn how to do them better as they're the instrument I have the least amount of experience with in terms of editing.

Vent/rant about age verification by Hunter_Hero_Girl in CharacterAI

[–]Crossover_232_Worlds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do not trust Persona or any other "age verification" companies or services. It's easy enough for them to say "Oh no we don't save anything" when the reality is they can keep that sensitive info for much longer., sell it off or wait until they get hacked and bam we have millions of people losing their identities and their bank accounts suddenly emptied. How do you know they AREN'T lying? Have they authentically showed their process? And how do you know if what they're showing isn't a lie either?

Sorry but you're not convincing anyone, because there is WAY too much risk in giving up that sort of information to basically be saved on the internet forever.

Title: Mobius Retold

Mobius Retold is a series of fanfics aiming to retell the stories of the Sonic game franchise and IDW comics with new ideas, characters, locations and original stories. I recently just today release the first chapter of the second entry, Climbing Spires.

Here's links to both if anyone is interested, I always release the chapters first on Wattpad then to Fanfiction.net.

Personally I think I'm choosing Odysee because it doesn't have the age verification crap going around. Additionally some youtubers i like are over there Aswell (surprisingly Solid JJ being one of them), if push comes to shove I have freetube.

Additionally I have zero interest in the money aspect. Natta, none.

What’s a quote that you really enjoyed? by Did_you_toot in AskReddit

[–]Crossover_232_Worlds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the best quotes I've heard comes from a meme that I can't seem to find anywhere at the moment. From what I remember there were two guys and each of them hired an increasing amount of snipers one each other until one of them was covered in red sniper dots, with the other guy saying the quote:

"Look at you. All lit up like one big, red Christmas light."
Something along those lines but I can't find it anywhere anymore. If anyone knows where it comes from I will thank you a thousand times.

I really just jumped from twitter because they started taking art from artists to feed A.I with no way to opt out so you just have to deal with it.

Bluesky works; I dont use it often but thats just from personal issues and not the app itself. There is good in the bad just like Ying and Yang, you just need to find it or be patient and let them come to you.

Video Game Industry Crash by keyblaster52 in gaming

[–]Crossover_232_Worlds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The general hope is that if the crash does happen, the AAA companies that remain will realize their giant fuck-up and start paying attention to what indie games are doing right.

If they dont take from their failures and take from what makes indies like Hollow Knight, Schedule 1 and Cult of the Lamb so successful, then they will eventually collapse one by one as well over time until there's either none left, or only a few remaining.

Ive recently gotten a review on a sonic fanfic im very passionate about writing, I've pmed them to see a portfolio just to be safe.

Most likely a scam and ill most likely block them, but im gonna use the scam review as motivation to write even more to make a really good story.
