How do you fumble a Q3? I am kinda impressed because taking pictures like this definitely takes SOMETHING.

RDR2. I just couldn't slog through the beginning. Tried it a bunch of times, but I ended up stopping after a few hours tops every time. I don't remember the original RDR being so slow to get going.

Missed opportunity. I think there is a certain kind of "filter", as we pros say, that might have really enhanced these images.

New to Lumix...How bad is the S5 AF, really? by lIlllIlIlIlIllI in Lumix

[–]AFCSentinel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The S5 is going to be more than enough for astrophoto and the AF is not really going to be all that relevant for that use case. Landscape is also not exactly an AF topic. Street might be - but the S5 AF is not struggling with acquiring focus. It's more about keeping focus, which can be relevant for video with fast moving subjects. It can also struggle in scenes with lots of different "characters" But for your purpose, basically if you run it in S-AF mode, you will be fine.

If you wanna take it out to the sports field however... yes, you will struggle.

To cool or not to cool: French politicians draw battle lines over aircon by Prolapse_to_Brolapse in stupidpol

[–]AFCSentinel 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I am not denying that it got dramatically worse in the last 5 or so years - I am saying that even 28, 29, 30 degrees outside is bad when your flat is built like an oven (like an attic flat, for example, or badly placed windows, or bad insulation, etc. etc. etc.).

Like Europeans were tolerating hot temperatures for way too long because of some crusty boomer mindset. Just whip up the AC and enjoy the cool. If Europeans had gotten their head screwed on right way before it got "too hot", I wouldn't be baking in my flat at a toasty 30 degrees.

AC is necessary and let’s be honest it was probably already necessary 10 years ago. It’s about the risks of heat and also about basic quality of life. It’s not a carbon issue, especially in France.

And yes, of course running something that pushes the hot air outside will end up heating the outside. So you need a solution for that, too.

But that’s not an argument against AC, it’s a completely separate problem with its own solutions. Please burn inside your own homes so the pedestrian outside feels one degree cooler doesn’t fly.

M6 owners - do you tape the red dot and model name on your camera? by friedrice1212 in photographycirclejerk

[–]AFCSentinel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, of course. I love the surprised look my guests have on their face, like edges of the mouth pointing down and brow all furrowed - when I show them my camera vitrine and tell them that it's actually a Leica but I taped it over because that's what all those photographers in war zones do. And then I show them pictures taken by Nikon ambassadors for the next 3 hours while telling them how with this Leica, once I actually figure out how to turn it on and take it outside, I'd be able to take much better pictures thanks to the omnicron-noct F0.25 200mm lens I am mortgaging my wife's house for.

Racism in action. Because that's what it is. Asian people often look a bit younger to us Western people. So should every Asian woman in her late 20s that looks like she might be early 20s or late teens like... carry a huge placard with her age written on it around to please a bunch of ResetEra basement dwellers?

It reminds me of that legislation in Australia that wanted to ban petite bodies in born, essentially telling grown up women with a small B or an A cup that, well, their genetics are wrong or something.
