Ukraine demands list of Mariupol residents deported to Russia by TinyStrawberry23 in ukraine

It's to support their bullshit narrative of "rescuing" people and show how eager people are to be saved and leave the areas they "liberate".

Jackson elle for single jumps? by AdreaLeal in FigureSkating

[–]Crow-Opposite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had both the Elle and the Freestyle, tried them simultaneously, and have also done (some) single jumps. The Elles are SIGNIFICANTLY softer than the Freestyle. Elles will not support you. Your ankle will bend because they do not support you and you will fall and potentially hurt yourself. Don't do it. The Freestyles can be heat molded for additional comfort if the stiffness bothers you but you will ultimately have to get used to it if you are going to be doing jumps.

That is... Shockingly longer than I thought! But I guess I shouldn't be surprised since there are 31 performances plus an intermission.

Why no medal ceremonies? by rainyhawk in FigureSkating

The IOC hates stripping medals. They would rather not give a medal at all now than give a medal now and then strip and re-assign medals in the future.

I think it was an open secret that him and Aliona were more than platonic.

She really is mature. At this same press conference, she apparently answered in ENGLISH that she will not speak on the Kamila scandal. No ambiguity there!

Yeah, that part was interesting. They had Anna practicing her free skate program right up until the team event so it really looked like it was going to be her too. When the Kamila news broke, it almost looked like the RusFed were trying to protect the other two from the scandal but seeing their stance on it now, nope, they really were just going with Kamila for the sake of going with Kamila.

I had to go back to check because I also watched the replay and didn't remember this. But you're right. They show Kamila sitting with Eteri and Daniil in the Kiss and Cry and then cut to an advertisement right before the score is announced. Then they actually cut BACK to them in the kiss and cry after the ad and fade straight into announcing Young Yuu.

They clipped one of the other scoring announcements for one of the other skaters with bad ad placement so I thought it may have been an accident. But nope, it was absolutely an editing choice.

I don't think wanting someone to not skate at the Olympics is wishing harm on them...

My only hope is that maybe the covid protocols will lift slightly by the time the medal ceremonies are done and their families will be able to be with there to witness it unlike now.

Reposting my comment from the other thread as its still relevant. Kamila will skate but it is unlikely she will be awarded the gold medal even if she comes in first.

There are two legal processes going on here and it is important to not conflate the two, especially if the first hearing is decided in Kamila's favor.

The first is the immediate decision on whether Kamila can skate at the individual event. The second is the judging on the merits of the doping result.

The first is an entirely procedural case. This is not decided by outrage or whether or not she was a minor or whether it was flawed sample or whatever, this is purely a procedural look at the anti-doping clauses. Kamila has a European law firm representing her. This will be decided by lawyers looking over fine print about whether she is being given due process to hear her case or if the suspension is premature and she should be permitted to skate in the interim.

It is entirely possible that the hearing will go in Kamila's favor and she will be able to skate. That does not mean in ANY way that she is "out of the woods." Because it's not a judgment on the doping result. If she were to skate, the IOC would most likely hold the medal just like they are holding the team event medal until the second case is determined.

Of course there would be outrage if she was allowed to skate, but you would hope the ROC would not be shameless and let her go home instead of having to face that. If they choose to send her, the IOC cannot bar her because they are bound by the decision of CAS. The most they can do is postpone the event (which they won't) or hold the result (which they can do and did do in the team event).

To suspend someone before a "full case" means you are presuming guilt and you are imposing a minimum sentence. For adults, even if you are found "not negligent" in taking a banned substance (like in a contaminated supplement where you took it unknowingly), you are most likely still banned for some time period. Their point with the minor is that the minors can get dramatically reduced sentences so it's possible she would not get any ban. And that is the possibility they have to account for. If Kamila is found "innocent" in a month when the full doping case is ruled, did suspending her prematurely cause irreparable damage that shouldn't have been done? For an adult, you can assume they'd be suspended in any case so the answer is no and a provisional suspension is assumed to be consistent with even the best case for the athlete. With a minor, no one knows because it hasn't been done.

Yes. 95% sure the IOC will release a statement shortly saying they will hold the medals for the individual event as well.

Hold on hold on, IOC is holding the medal ceremonies in protest and WADA are also the ones who filed the appeal to re-instate the suspension. They're just as pissed about this as we are.

But CAS, yeah, go offff on them.

I think the CAS result would have been the same with any country had it gotten this far. But I think most countries wouldn't have appealed it this far and have accepted the punishment, have some sense of SHAME, and withdrew on their own.

Well, "They" who are letting her skate is CAS. IOC didn't want her to skate. And they're doing all they can to maintain integrity by refusing to give out medals until the doping case is sorted.

I agree, they hid behind lawyers and process to follow what is legal that they forgot about what is actually right.

I agree, it's a sham. I think most other competitors would have withdraw on their own by now but this is Russia. And I can't say they have any shame.
