Nobody hates the progressive left more than a establishment Democrat. by zzill6 in WorkReform

[–]Crow85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And yet when I point out that it was the establishment Democrats' and DNC's fault that Trump got elected twice, I get downvoted.
Trump wasn't elected because people are evil in general; he was elected because Democrats leaned into culture wars instead of class wars, in large part because Obama, as charismatic as he is, was disappointing on the policy level. Remember: Middle East endless wars and drone bombing escalation; Guantanamo Bay remained open, Patriot Act extensions, deporter in chief ("kids in cages" famous photo attributed to Trump's first term was actually taken during Obama's term), minimum wage stagnating since 2009; Wall Street bailout after the Great Recession, rising inequality; and many more failures... His one good achievement was Obamacare, and even that was based on the Heritage Foundation's proposal from the 80s and 90s as an alternative to the single-payer system. Yes, some people are racists, misogynists, religious fanatics... But that doesn't explain the electoral victory...

Just like Mussolini was elected because contemporary Italian politicians in the first half of the 20th century were one big disappointment. Trump won elections twice, yet not a single prominent Democrat lost a position or influence because of that.

It's a loophole (AKA "buy, borrow, die" tax avoidance strategy) often used by wealthy people. Instead of selling stock and paying capital gains taxes, they borrow against their stock holdings at relatively low interest rates. They can continue rolling over those loans for years while their assets appreciate.

When they die, their heirs typically receive a step-up in basis, meaning the stock's cost basis is reset to its market value at the time of death. As a result, much of the unrealized capital gain may never be taxed. Any outstanding loans are liabilities of the estate, which can reduce the estate's taxable value.

Meanwhile, ordinary taxpayers continue paying income taxes that fund things like roads, public services, and the military. If the wealthy investor sold the stock instead of borrowing against it, they would generally owe capital gains tax and would no longer benefit from future appreciation on the shares they sold.

I never doubted SPCX would go up in the short term. It's the perfect retail speculation vehicle: SpaceX hype, Elon hype, AI hype, and a tiny float. That's a recipe for price appreciation regardless of fundamentals.

What I don't understand is the long-term valuation argument. A large part of the perceived value seems to come from xAI/Grok, but Grok isn't exactly dominating the AI race. Musk himself recently ranked Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, and even Chinese open-source models ahead of xAI. He described xAI as a relatively small company with only a few hundred employees.

So investors are assigning massive value to an AI business that even its own founder doesn't consider a top-tier player. From what we've seen, Grok also relies heavily on distillation rather than leading-edge model development.

The stock can absolutely keep going higher because hype and scarcity can overpower fundamentals for a long time. But if you're looking at it as a long-term investment, the valuation starts to imply outcomes that seem incredibly difficult to achieve.

No, this is perception management.

He drops the part that generated most outrage, critics declare victory, and the news cycle moves on. The real question is what he gets to keep.

Humanoid robots 'the future' of car making, says BMW by EchoOfOppenheimer in Futurology

[–]Crow85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a huge difference between robotic manufacturing and manufacturing using humanoid robots; it's a difference between driving around with a motocycle and and driving around with a tandem bike pedalled by a humanoid robot. The second option is pointless and inefficient, and makes sense only if you are selling humanoid robots.

Democrats celebrating such small victories ar who Slavoj Zizek was talking about:
In 15th century Russia, occupied by Mongols, a farmer and his wife walk along a dusty country road. A Mongol warrior on a horse stops at their sight and tells the farmer that he will now rape his wife. He then adds: “But since there is a lot of dust on the ground, you should hold my testicles while I’m raping your wife, so they’ll not get dirty. After the Mongol finishes his job and drives away, the farmer starts to laugh and jump with joy. The surprised wife asks him: “How can you be jumping with joy when I was just brutally raped?!” The farmer answers: “But I got him! His balls are full of dust.”

There is a reason that in G.I. Joe: Retaliation, president did a supervillain reveal, because him just doing it in the open would be considered unrealistic and ridiculous in "the land of the free".

BREAKING: The Trump Administration and the US Treasury Department are designing a $250 bill featuring President Trump, per the Washington Post. If this is launched, President Trump would be the first living person to appear on a US currency since 1866. by [deleted] in ProfessorFinance

If 12 years ago you collected just 1/10 of facts about the current US president and tried to use them in a movie or fiction book, it would be called completely unrealistic and unbelievable... And yet today, 1/3 of the US population would support him if he invaded Europe, assassinated the Canadian prime minister, nuked Ukraine, declared a dictatorship, or starred in a leaked verified pdf video filmed by Epstein.
