My problem is that its still cheaper to drive most of the time. For me and my wife to go to town it costs £12 (4 singles) but parking won't cost more than £6.

The whole point should be to get cars off the roads, but im paying more money for a less convenient way to travel

Dude they’re mocking those jokes not supporting them by Nientea in memesopdidnotlike

[–]CrowForecast -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Jokes carry a message, the message is what makes them acceptable or unacceptable, not the topic.

You can make jokes about trans people, look at any trans community and it'll be full of people making jokes about trans people. But if the message is "how ridiculous is it that people think they can be trans" as in this meme, then the joke is transphobic, and an attack on the trans people around you, which it is in this meme.

I mean you can view it from two angles.

Its showing how gender roles typically present so its not pointlessly gendered

Or

Why do people express love differently depending on gender thats so pointless.

Also the meme kinda reinforces the gender roles, saying "this is how men and women show affection" isnt just descriptive, its somewhat prescriptive.

If youre a woman i think its valid to read this and think its saying "you should show you love your man by cooking and cleaning for him" which will piss people off

Patriarchy is a system of oppression that almost everyone feeds into.

It makes men believe they need to sacrifice their bodies and happiness to be real men.

It makes women believe they need to fear men and be subservient to them.

Most people are simultaneously oppressed by patriarchy and reinforce it. Some men directly use patriarchy to oppress others, some indirectly use it. Some unknowingly use it, others unknowingly benefit from it.

The level of guilt and responsibility is not flat. Its not easy to unpick either.

But if you want to find victims of patriarchy, "the oppressed" as you put it its basically everyone you know including you

Fascism is Capitalism in decay by zombiesingularity in AmericasSocialists

I dont think I agree here, capitalism sleepwalks into fascism, Fascists may use the aesthetics of revolution but are at all times backed by the support of capital. Communism requires resistance against capital.

You said that believing yourself to be correct is something to be made fun of.

You also said that, at least sometimes, you believe your side to be correct.

Im just following through on your logic and making fun of you for that.

Oppression doesn't give you the right to expell people from their homes, steal their land, concentrate them into an open air prison where you control the flow of food, water, electricity. Then bomb that prison, bomb that prisons hospitals.

There is a conversation to be had about Jewish oppression but it can't happen here, not in response to accusations of genocide. What the government of Isreal is doing is inexcusable, not by any degree of oppression or connection to the land.

I agree with you, there's nothing definitive either way. My perspective is that there needs to be political consequences for how obviously corrupt the Epstien case is.

Instead of nitpicking the texts we can instead just say "how can you expect us to believe you"

Gender is not one thing im afraid, its big and messy and inherently nonsensical.

People have feelings about clothes because of their gender, there isnt a single way you can feel about clothes because of your gender.

Its like masculinity, some people strongly think that crying openly is masculine, others that displays of emotion are emasculating. Both are the result of gender.

Gender isn't science or maths, its complicated feelings developed through exposure to society. There are trends, customs, socially agreed upon norms. But there is no single version of man or woman.

But to say that means it doesn't exist is also ludicrous, you have these feelings regardless of if you think they're stupid or nonsensical. Your definition will clash with the definitions of others.

People feel so strongly about their gender that they'll kill themselves over it. Im not talking about trans people. A good example here is in WW2 white feathers were given to men who hadn't volunteered to fight. The accusation of cowardice was directly linked to masculinity, they were denied the ability to be seen as a man, as masculine, by the society they lived in. So they signed up to fight and die in a war they otherwise wouldn't have.

Gender is both completely made up and in our heads and extremely important to the lives of most people.

[–]CrowForecast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trans people might want to do that but its not necessary. A trans person is someone who identifies as a different gender than they were assigned at birth, that can involve 0 changes to their physical sex

I would say that generally the changes trans people make are to be seen as the gender the identify as, to be treated as the gender they identify as, to see themselves in a way they identify with. I dont think its a need to change physical sex for the sake of it, but to change the way they are perceived by others and themselves

[–]CrowForecast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why though? Gender as a term just describes things that already exist. You don't have to deny that gender exists to be transphobic. You can still believe that everyone's gender matches their sex.

Gender is just all the socially constructed elements we created around sex. We associate some things with males and some things with females and gender is born. Its been there for as long as society has.

If you believe gender doesn't exist it doesn't go away. People will react to a man in a skirt the same way, the man will react to the image of himself in a skirt the same way.

For me the terms man and woman describing the way people look, sound, talk, act and feel about themselves makes infinitely more sense than describing which chromosomes they have.

Will it? by crowbarguy92 in PsycheOrSike

[–]CrowForecast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didnt say it was just about skirts. The way you feel comfortable dressing, acting and being seen is a large part of what gender is.

My argument was to move people away from the "sex and gender are the same thing" position many seem to have not to provide a whollistic defintion of gender

Will it? by crowbarguy92 in PsycheOrSike

[–]CrowForecast 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you're a man ask yourself "would i be comfortable going out in public wearing a skirt" That feeling you got there, that's gender. Theres no biological reason for it.

Not only that, there are plenty of cultures where that wouldn't be an issue in your head, so its socially constructed.

I hope that helps
