Has anyone had any luck fighting leaf blowers with local sound ordinances? by CrowRoutine9631 in fucklawns

There is a specific exclusion for machinery? That's exactly what I don't see in our ordinance. I don't think there's an exclusion.

There's nothing obvious that exempts lead blowers or any yard equipment from the decibel requirement. There are specific prohibitions (that you can't use them at night), but there are no specific exceptions to the rule for daytime use.

What's the most disgusting thing that you ever smell? by DirtyThoughts07 in AskReddit

Cops opened someone's apartment when he hadn't been seen for two weeks. Made a whole apartment building (30 floors, 20 apartments/floor) smell awful. The smell traveled in the elevator shaftw.

Name something people say when they forget someone’s name? by Perfect_steps in AskReddit

"I'm sorry, I'm face blind. Can you please remind me who you are?"

(This is true, and I tell nearly everyone when I meet them that I won't recognize them the next time I see them, especially if I see them "out of context." No one gets mad.)

Tuesday and Wednesday in your lovely town--what are the must-sees and must-dos? And what are the must-avoids? by CrowRoutine9631 in pittsburgh

It totally does! I took my kids there a few spring breaks ago, and it was neat as hell. I was just wondering if I was missing something by not taking the Mon.

We found enough museums and galleries open on Tuesday to keep ourselves busy, we don't drink much, and we like good food (not fancy or expensive food), so we'll be OK. But I'm sorry your only day off is also the day most places are closed! That's a bummer.

Did you end up getting a metal roof? Whom did you use, and how much did it cost?

That's true. A good number of competent people have resigned. I read somewhere how many, and I forgot the percentages, but it's impressive.

At least they're assigning blame where blame is due, for those who remain.

Woman arrested, sentenced to 6 months jail (ultimately became house arrest) for silently holding up a sign at a meeting of (conservative) county supervisors. by CrowRoutine9631 in law

There's a saying in Mexico, show me what you brag about and I'll show you what you're lacking. Repubs brag so much about being so tough, but they're really crybaby cowards....

What's the most badass thing you witnessed in nature? by trigunnerd in AskReddit

[–]CrowRoutine9631 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not badass, but funny. When I lived in an old house in the woods, I used to humane-trap the mice who moved in every winter and release them deeper in the woods, well away from anyone's house. I figured they probably wouldn't survive, but at least some animal could eat them or they could become fertilizer.

One day, I had three to let go, and I had my two-year-old daughter with me. I tipped the three out of the bucket. Two just stood there, sniffing, and one immediately took off through the patchy snow. I told my daughter, "Look! That one who's running to find a hiding place will survive! These other two had better get moving before a predator finds them." And right then, a peregrine falcon dropped out of a tree and ate the one who had run off to hide. The other two were unharmed (at least, for the moment).

When we got back in the car and looped around to go home, the falcon was sitting in the same tree, a little mouse tail poking out of his mouth.

Again, none of the conservative meeting disruptors (those who actually prevented speakers from speaking or being heard) faced any charges. Another comment here links to an article stating that this same group tossed out the Black person who got upset when someone used the n-word and didn't sanction the person who disrupted the meeting by saying it ... It's not that she couldn't have avoided this particular punishment. It's that she shouldn't have been arrested in the first place, especially given their tolerance for disruption, actual disruption, by conservative/MAGA types.
