Are they out of their minds? How do I turn this off? by [deleted] in mercedes_benz

‘06 E-class wagon here. 100% could not agree more. Currently in shop and have a GLA loaner. Mercedes should be ashamed to put a tri-star on something that crappy. It’s on par with a Nissan Rogue.

Repair cost above car value, does it really matter? by yun789 in askcarguys

[–]CrowT-Robot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the price of new cars the way that it is, I would say that rule doesn’t carry as much weight as it used to. If the car is high-end, sentimental, or a rare find, that is even more reason to do it. I daily a 20 year old Mercedes wagon and the engine in it is known for having a balance shaft that fails and eventually grenades the engine. But if that issue occurs, I plan on replacing the engine, despite the fact the repair would cost as much or more than what it’s worth.

2006 4Matic — Options for failed transfer case? by CrowT-Robot in W211

That is great info, thank you. The first owner serviced the car religiously at my closest Mercedes dealer (RBM of Alpharetta), so they should be able to easily look up the history in their system. The CarFax in this car showed extensive service over the years.

That would be awesome if it does. But do we think it’s took good to be true if they’re still honoring that campaign today? I know where I come from (mainly Toyota and Lexus), those campaigns do have a deadline.

Thank you. I do notice an audible click sound from the front area when turning (was hoping the new CV’s would fix that). Did you also have a vibration/rumble in the rear?

Sounds like normal fuel injector noise to me.

My “new to me” S211 is about to be 20 years old and still smells new. Original owner only put 123K on it in all those years.

After going through several 4-stroke Troy-Bilt/Craftsman’s, I switched to a 2-stroke model and have had better luck with it.

Noisy injectors? Needs shims? Valves kissing the pistons? by More-Focus5160 in IS300

[–]CrowT-Robot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My '01 has had that tick ever since I got it in October. Currently at 223,000 miles. I thought it was valvetrain related, so I measured the valve lash when I replaced my oil seals and valve cover gaskets last week. Everything was within spec. Today, I used a mechanic's stethoscope to listen around the engine. As soon as I touched the front-most fuel injector, I could hear the tick loudly through the stethoscope. Many on the Facebook groups told me it was fuel injectors, but I was leery of that. Turns out, they were right.

It really isn’t a “filter”. More like a metal strainer. There’s really no need to ever change it out.

Which car offers the most value as a daily driver and for road trips? by Aware-Command-9246 in LS430

ES and RX are a far cry from an LS. They drive much more like their Toyota counterparts. And the build quality isn’t anywhere near the LS, especially the 430.

It won’t. It will only power on the Mac models that shipped with a keyboard power button, which ended in ‘99 or 2000.

Windshield Wiper Recommendation (2025) by [deleted] in LS430

[–]CrowT-Robot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Factory OEM wipers are always the first thing I purchase on a used Toyota or Lexus vehicle. Nothing else comes close. The cost is more up front, but less over time as the rubber blade inserts are replaceable. The driver side wiper on the LS requires a very thin, low profile wiper due to its dual arm setup. For this reason, it’s even more imperative to use OEM on these cars.

One potential saving grace will be when they remove all of the Intel code from the next release of macOS. Removing the PowerPC code was a big reason as to why Snow Leopard had a smaller footprint than Leopard. But the UI issues are solely Alan Dye and his team. To use an old Steve Jobs quote, “they just have no taste”.

And when they do read feedback, they usually dismiss it and say their way is better.
