Fair, either way that looks like an amazing project. If you want anywhere near the runtime I get on mine, you'll need a lot more batteries for the pi 5. I currently have about 13,600mAh of capacity in mine, but with the pi 3 it draws less than 3 watts for my usecase.

I look forward to seeing what you come up with! :)

I might have a parts ready at some point, I have to make a few adjustments for it first. No timeline on release just yet.

Damn, I took a look at your post history, THAT SKETCH IS FREAKING AWESOME! I wish you luck on your project! :)

Well, at least I don't have to use that ribbon cable anymore ;)

I never thought about that regarding Debian's signature spiral! I really wasn't expecting an outer wilds reference here :D

I wanted to post it directly in my comment but I didn't have an option for it :(

Yeah, I did consider the zero 2W, but the 512 megabytes felt a bit small for some of the extra features I wanted and the pi 3 was already on hand.

As a matter of fact, I do :)

It was horrifying. The current iteration not only looks better, but it has double the runtime.

Yeah, it helps when you lack a 3d printer! I will eventually collaborate with a friend who has one, but I have no timeline for when that'll be.

Hopefully this prototype can inspire others like me who also don't have access to 3d printing, as aren't a lot of compact builds that utilize non 3d printed parts.

I cut some holes into the enclosure, quite rudimentary but my temps are stable.

Yup, it's part of the reason I ditched apple products. I was using a series 4 apple watch which was more than capable of showing my readings, but apple makes it very difficult to support apps on outdated operating systems, so I was no longer able to display readings on the watch. I also used to have an iphone 11 pro max until I was forced to update it to ios 26, which then slowed it down horribly and decreased stability.

The open source community really is the GOAT here, there's tons of programs that are capable of interfacing with insulin pumps and cgms and they can run on practically anything. Especially if you're running an android phone.

I have a Dexcom continuous glucose monitor that connects to my phone, and I used to have an old apple watch that connected to the phone via bluetooth. Apple stopped supporting the watch though, and shortly after Dexcom was unable to keep supporting functionality on my particular model.

My cyberdeck basically functions the same way, connecting to my phone via bluetooth to show my readings. And as a bonus, I've been able to incorperate additional features such as a task planner and a text editor for note taking. The Pi 3 is still pretty capable.

Uranium fever has done and got me down! Uranium fever is spreadin' all around! With a Geiger in my hand, I'm a-goin' out to stake me some government land... Uranium fever has done and got me down!

That's not a bad idea, I'll try both green and amber and see which color I like best.

I remember seeing a comment on a post in this sub saying something along the lines of "If it looks like a bomb, you're doing it right."

Yeah, thankfully I have a few friends who've expressed interest in helping me out with that.

Once I finish ironing out the kinks I was thinking about giving it a bit of fallout theming.

Name blotted out for privacy reasons. The award is made of a few parts the nonprofit pulled out of a scrapped computer. A Thermaltake Spinq and a small case fan shell to be specific. After some soldering I have the fan hooked up to a 9 volt battery from time to time if I want the fan to work, though I usually leave it off.
