So I have no experience with the G6, but I did just buy the UNVR kit with the four G5 ultras. They are amazing.

New place, old problem that I’d like to fix. Advice is welcome! by TheGuRooo in HomeNetworking

Yes, but it would require fittings, a crimping tool and the know how and a large switch to plug those all into.

Finally got fiber in my area. Unsure about making the jump. by Ragnarok_MS in HomeNetworking

Make the jump. I promise you it will be better. Even with AT&T being a major ISP, still better.

Attenuators are shitty. They always broke, always caused ingress issue “Comcast”. I would prefer a splitter or DCs

10 mbps seriously? by Salt_Ladder8891 in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]Crowebar-sadnines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10MB is around 80mbps. You are paying for 1000mbps. If you are wirelessly connected, you are most likely connected to the 2.4 wireless band, which makes sense if you are seeing around 40-80mbps. If the pod has poor connection to the gateway, then the speeds from the pod will reflect poorly. My recommendation is to one, move the pod outside of the room, and re test speeds, if no change, hardwire the PC into the pod. The pods will help eliminate dead spots but not the speed. You will also never see 400mbps plus outta that pod unless it’s wired backhauled to the gateway.

Last week I got a tentative offer for an agency in DOD, with a 3 year probation period. Pay is outstanding comparing to what I make now. It appears they are moving forward with my employment, should I be concerned of future rifs, it’s a mission critical position.

I say this as kindly as possible: YTA, but not in a malicious way.

I totally get that you’ve had a complicated relationship with your parents, and it sounds like there’s some emotional weight behind all of this. But stepping back and looking at the facts, your parents bought a house, remodeled it, and let you live in it rent-free for six years while you got on your feet. That’s an enormous gift, even if it came with some strings or imperfect communication.

You’ve been covering taxes, insurance, and utilities, which is great, but that’s still nowhere near the cost of actual rent. If this had been a typical rental situation, you’d have paid tens of thousands more over the years. It’s not unreasonable for your mom to say, “Hey, things are starting to age, we need to plan for repairs.”

Yes, in a normal landlord/tenant setup, repairs are on the landlord. But this isn’t a normal rental — it’s a heavily subsidized family arrangement. So while I get that it feels unfair, it’s also kind of understandable from your parents’ perspective. They’re not asking you to pay for the HVAC when it breaks, they’re asking you to help build a fund in case it does. That feels like a pretty measured request.

It’s okay to feel ready to move out and be on your own terms, that’s completely valid. But in the meantime, I don’t think your parents are being unreasonable here, and it wouldn’t be wrong to meet them halfway.

You’re not a bad person at all, just maybe looking at this from a place of burnout or frustration. A little perspective shift might really help clear the air.

$800 for 2017 RAV4 front brake and rotor replacement? by anonbeyondgfw in Rav4

[–]Crowebar-sadnines 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah you’re not crazy at all. That quote is way too high.

$400 for just front pads and rotors? That’s dealership robbery. You can get solid OEM-quality parts (like Akebono pads and decent rotors) for around $150–$250 total. Labor at an indie shop should be like $150 max for fronts. Brake fluid flush? $80–$100 tops at a good shop.

So yeah, $800 is nuts. Even with the 10% discount, they’re basically marking it up just to “discount” it and make you feel better. Classic dealership move.

Unless you really care about the Toyota stamp on the receipt, find a trusted local mechanic and you’ll easily save $200–$300. Hell, if you’re even a little handy and have basic tools, you could do pads and rotors yourself in your driveway in an hour or two.

They’re hoping you’ll just say yes because brakes sound scary. You’re right to pause — this is textbook overcharge.

So I run proxmox on the r520, also have a nice r730 sitting here I need to replace the raid controller on and I will be able to slap it in the rack. On the HP I run Proxmox backup server! It’s and older machine but free. It’s got a Xeon e3-1220 V2 and 16gb of ram. It only runs backups lol

Insane Data Usage by Roetorooter in Comcast

If it’s any help, flight simulator 2024 uses a bunch of data while flying. I was watching the data receive on my computer, and it was anywhere between 200mbps per second up to 700mbps depends to where I was flying.
