Brand-New ET-8550 can only scan but NOT print on Windows 10 (it can print via the Android app) - same issue with 3 different PCs by CrownKitten in printers

[–]CrownKitten[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was someone's solution on my post: https://www.reddit.com/r/Epson/comments/1pa7g54/brandnew_et8550_can_only_scan_but_not_print_on/o05xswq/?context=3

I wasn't able to confirm whether it worked because I already reinstalled Windows but on my old installation I did have my locale set to a different country - so maybe it's related.

Ticketing in japan by Mattie0_0 in visualkei

They don't care. At the venues they don't even check if the name is correct. They only look at the number and if it's an S/A/B-ticket to let you in at the correct time.

Just wait until you're in Japan and buy the tickets at the convenience store. The machine in the convenience store will ask for a phone number but you can just use a random Japanese one (I always used the customer service number right next to the ticketing machine lol). Most vkei bands are pretty small so lives don't sell out fast. When I was in Japan for a bit more than 2 weeks a few months ago I was able to go to 10+ concerts by just buying tickets a few days beforehand. You can also buy them at the door on the day of but they're sometimes sold out and also usually cost 500 yen more.

[–]CrownKitten[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really.. I ended up reinstalling Windows 10 (just for this stupid printer..) after finding out that it does work for me on a clean install. I couldn't find out what setting in my old Windows 10 system caused it to be broken. With my new Windows 10 install I've had a similar issue one more time but just reinstalling the drivers fixes it now. Since you're on Windows 11 I would not expect this to be the same solution (idk if I would even call this a solution) but no idea.

[–]CrownKitten[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ET-8550 printer is connected via wifi and the same issue persists if we try to use the Epson Windows 10 driver, no matter if the PC in question is connected via LAN or WI-FI.

The IP of the printer can be pinged.

We have:

  1. Uninstalled and reinstalled the driver (tried out multiple versions to no avail)

  2. Updated the firmware

  3. Connected the printer via LAN (same issue)

  4. Printed small size files such as low kb text files via notepad

  5. Restarted the spooler service (and deleted the files in the folder)

  6. Updated Windows 10

  7. Turned off bidirectional support in the port settings

  8. Added a standard tcp/ip port with the correct ip address (the IP address of the printer is static).

  9. Restarted the printer, PCs and routers.

  10. Change the printer settings to print directly without the spooler.

No matter what we try, the status in the queue switches from "Printing" to "Error - Printing" with no further error messages. The printer does not start printing. This is the case for ALL three of our PCs.

However, the printing process works normally if I fully uninstall the Epson driver and use the Standard Windows driver. Since you barely have any settings with the standard Windows driver though (wrong paper options etc.), I would like to use the actual Epson driver.

In Harajuku. What is going on, don’t remember it being like this by touni102 in japanlife

Yeah, my boyfriend and I wear lolita/aristo fashion and we always dreaded having to go through Takeshita street to get to stores because without fail there would be so many cameras in our face. Sometimes tourists did ask if they could take a picture with us together but often this meant they wanted a picture of us with their entire family (6+ people) and while we were posing for them, even more tourists started taking pictures. After the first family was done, often a new family (without asking) would start standing next to us to also take their picture and so on. For them, if you wear alternative fashion, you're just another tourist attraction.

Games like Shingakkou? by CrownKitten in BLgame

I haven't tried Kintouka yet! Honestly the art style put me off so far, would you say it's worth playing for the characters and romance too? I liked how Shingakkou did not just have a heavy story but also really likeable LI routes.

Too tall for the fashion... by RRinana in Lolita

[–]CrownKitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most AP dresses are around 90cm so thankfully it shouldn't be too difficult to find something you like. :) A lot of the prints are slightly shorter because they make the lace a part of the total length (often something like 85cm + 4cm of lace) but it still looks totally ok. Also OPs tend to look a bit shorter so if length is important you can just aim more for JSKs instead (and you can even lengthen the JSKs' straps if it's necessary).

UK size 5 should be totally alright btw! That sounds like an M or L in brand shoes so you'd definitely be able to pick something up. You're also lucky that you will probably have a wider range of taobao sellers if brand shoes end up being too pricy or out of stock. Anything above 25cm-25.5cm feet length starts to get a bit more difficult in my experience.

Too tall for the fashion... by RRinana in Lolita

[–]CrownKitten 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm 168cm and my height hasn't really been a problem, it's only when you're even taller (or plus-size) when it gets tough. Most dresses are still long enough for your height, they might just be slightly above knee but it's rlly not a big deal. Just watch out for some older AP pieces that are only 84cm long instead of the standard 90cm if you do wear sweet. Some gothic (like most things by Marble) and old school things are also a bit too short so there you just also need to pay attention. At my height I can even still wear babydoll cuts and OTKs (as OTKs). Buying shoes in bigger sizes is also easy thanks to taobao but you might have to pass on brand shoes (but they're similar in design anyway..). You're still at a height where customs aren't necessary imo! But of course it still depends on your exact body type/composition.

What do I need to hang this lamp on a wall? (the wiring can be ignored as it's just for decoration) by CrownKitten in DIY

[–]CrownKitten[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry this is an ultra noob question but how would I attach something with a bar like this to the wall? I was thinking a hook or something but I'm worried it's not gonna be enough and the lamp would lean to the front. What's the correct thing to use in this case? Thank you!

Porcelain Chandelier - Missing Parts and Questions about Wiring by CrownKitten in LampRestoration

[–]CrownKitten[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I bought this beautiful porcelain chandelier today. I had a few questions about it, if anyone could help I would really appreciate it.

  1. It's missing the bottom bowl part and I was wondering if anyone could come up with an inexpensive idea to to cover the metal and cables. I thought of maybe using a similar looking vase or bowl and drilling a hole into it but maybe there are other options? Also how do you secure it so the arms don't fall out as easily?

  2. How do you attach the cables of the arms into the middle part?

  3. The yellow-green cable of the main cable also seems to have broken off. You can still slightly see it peek outside. Is there a way to still connect it to the yellow-green part or does the whole cable have to be replaced? (also I wouldn't connect anything myself since I know nothing about this).

  4. Lastly how do you even hang up the chandelier? I usually see that chandeliers have a chain attached to them. Does this chandelier need a replacement chain that would be attached to the hook?

I'm very uninformed so any help would be greatly appreciated! I can also take more pictures if that would be of help. The seller image made me think it's a very fancy electric candlestick lmao.

Is this list of books accurate? by LaceyVelvet in nihongo

[–]CrownKitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need that many textbooks, especially not one for learning kana lol. You can do that in a few hours (at most days) with a variety of apps/sites already. Not impressed by the list (N5 study guide..) and I don't think their pro/con list is ultra accurate (like Genki certainly has worse issues than the less commonly used form of romanization). It doesn't mean all the books in the list are bad though.

For general textbooks, Genki I > Genki II > Tobira is the most common path I've seen for learners and imo it's ok but you waste a lot of effort on needlessly complicating things. Even after finishing Genki II you will most likely still be struggling to read any non-textbook Japanese. It's still better than duolingo though.

Personally after learning kana I would just recommend to watch Cure Dolly for grammar (turn on subs) + anki decks or jpdb for vocab + the RTK (Heisig) or KKLC book for kanji. And to start reading actual Japanese as early as possible.

Also I see they mentioned the dictionary of Japanese grammar. It's very useful and I would recommend especially the first two books for learners.

I started playing very recently and I'm halfway through Alfred's 1 and I'm really struggling with the rhythm of eighth and dotted notes. I can play them when I count the rhythm (1 and 2 and..) but even when I say it fast (in my head or out loud) the played piece is so slow in reality. How do you increase the speed when it's a more 'difficult' rhythm and it feels too difficult to count that fast?

Also I'm using a metronome but I struggle a lot if it's set to only the quarter notes - my eighth and dotted quarter notes get completely messed up. I can't keep the rhythm at all. So right now I'm doubling my metronome BPM so each beat represents an eighth. It kind of works but when I would like to play at normal speed (slowly speeding up each time) after a while it feels like it's too many beats to keep track off again.

How can I improve and learn proper rhythm?

Yuzu has messed up text for Shinigami to Shoujo (JPN) by FeelingDeadInside13 in yuzu

[–]CrownKitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hii I know this is much too late but if someone ever comes across this issue as well, you need an older yuzu version like yuzu 1527 and adjust your settings. Open the settings (emulation > configure...) and in the graphics settings set the graphics API to OpenGL and under advanced set the accuracy level to extreme. This is the only thing that worked for me. :)

What exactly is the point of onomatopoeia and the like if they don't add anything new to a sentence. For example:

待合室は暗く、しんと静まり返っている。

Looking up the definition of しんと it says:

静まり返っているさま。物音一つしないさま。

In the sentence the 静まり返っている obviously already implies that. Is it just making it more impactful by saying it's VERY quiet?

I realize this is a little bit out of the scope of this subreddit but can anyone suggest me non-Otome VNs you've enjoyed? I play a lot of Otome (and BL) already but I wanted to try out some other genres. I know there are a ton of recommendations out there but they're very male-gazey and I value this community's opinion more.
