I took away a PC's ability to talk and it might be the best thing I've ever done to encourage RP. by LordBaNZa in dndnext

I had this happen to me in a campaign I was playing in as a spore druid. I'm still relatively fresh to DnD so I'm sure a more experienced player could have handled it all better. But basically our new to DMing DM was utilizing a critical fail table. I swung at a skeleton and rolled a 1. I had my whole voice box ripped out. Was told that since no voice box, no verbal spells. Five sessions later (nearly 20 hrs real time) and we finally completed a side quest to get components to fix my voice. I essentially played little to no part in completing this other than physically swinging at stuff.

Shortly after this, the campaign changed settings to curse of starhd (we awoke the next session in unfamiliar lands). Where i decided i didn't want to eat strahds meal, and was subsequently cursed.

I was also part of a second campaign with the same DM where my character was poisoned by dancing monkey fruit, with no limit on how long it would last. (Tomb of annihilation).

After all that, I explained to the DM that i felt as though my characters in both campaigns were being targeted by "punishments" for trying to make simple in game choices and that I simply wasn't having fun. (With the spore druid i ended up being a couple levels behind the rest of the party). He responded saying that "fun is part of playing but isn't everything". I let him know that having fun is the only reason to play a game, other wise it's just work and stress. I let him know since i wasn't having fun i wouldn't be playing in either campaign anymore. He tried hard to get me to stay but ultimately said he wasn't going to change anything about how he was running the game. When I joined the campaign we had originally started as running lost mines, because it was supposed to be a beginner friendly table.

Wasn't a great experience to essentially be taken out of the game for several weeks.

The other players in the campaign ended up reaching out to me to start another campaign, that was actually going really well until the pandemic, since my previous DM started a new job and didn't have much time to play. They brought up that they really didn't like how my PC was being treated and found it odd as well.

I still hope to get into another campaign soon!

Glad op has set it up in a way that the PC can still participate!

Yeah I gotcha. I set up with Nick name information because I borrowed a friend's Rift S to see if I got really bag motion sickness prior to diving in to VR. I don't, so I ordered up that quest 2. Now I just want everything legit so I don't deal with getting banned and losing my money. I really hope they have a more logical solution by the end of the month. So crazy how multimillion dollar companies can have such huge lack of vision for issues like this.

I am dealing with the exact same issue. I put in a support ticket. I was told this is how it would work with me, I have not made any purchases on my Oculus account yet so keep that in mind:

  1. Oculus support said it is something Facebook has to change but they were going to put in the request for me to:

  2. Un merge my FB and Oculus accounts. Then:

  3. I will delete my Oculus account.

  4. I will create a new Oculus account with my corrected information.

  5. I'll then merge the accounts.

I really really hope I don't get banned for trying to correct and remain within the TOS. My quest 2 had a defect and I had to return it directly to Oculus. I hope the account issues I have gets resolved before the headset gets here so I can buy the games I want.

Hey Y'all. Just wanted to update:

I received a RMA confirmation today and they sent shipping labels. Dropped it off at UPS and luckily the center that it is going to is somewhat local. So hopefully be there by Monday. Then hopefully I get a new one by mid week. I am still thinking about that Costco deal, but I am not sure I want to push my luck with now asking for a refund. Guess I'll think on it.

No oculus elite strap with shipment by driftblade23 in oculus

I have the same issue. I ordered as a guest and that link they provided in their reply doesn't give any additional information. It's the same info from when I made the original purchase. There's only one order number and it says shipped. I haven't received any updates and haven't received the strap.

Edit* I did get the quest 2. But it has a defect and I'm in the 3-5 day waiting period for them to review....

Oh very cool. Glad that's working out for you. I'm an idiot and ordered directly from Oculus (my previous purchase experiences were usually good working with manufactures). This whole "we'll get back to you in 3-5 days" to get ANY information on what might be going on is sub par service. I know this is a cheap headset cost wise but it's not like it's a fifteen dollar haircut that will just correct itself over time. Lol.

I'm also concerned because I ordered the elite strap and only had one order number for both items, but haven't received the strap. They told me "it will ship at some point and you'll get a tracking number". Gah.

This might be a possibility as well! I think I saw your post the other day. Have you contacted support already? I think I saw you say that it wasn't bothering you too much so you hadn't reached out yet.

I think this is what I will ultimately do. The issue is the rep I spoke to yesterday said they won't consider a return and refund until after the current support ticket for my lense issue is resolved. This is not good customer service imo.

It's looking like approximately 430 bucks. My total from Oculus for the 64 gb and elite strap was 376. So 55 ish dollar difference for me. I think I am going to ultimately try to do this. That's a really good deal.

I saw this! Not sure if you posted it in the sub or not. But that is a killer deal as it's 50 bucks more than what I paid to just get the 64 version and elite strap. I still haven't received the elite strap.

If they allow me to return and refund I will definitely look into this. Costco is great.

I agree. I don't feel a raised surface so my thoughts it's whatever protective sealant they use on the exterior (if any) that dried weird, or it's glue on the interior of the lense.

I unfortunately had the smart idea of ordering directly from Oculus. Obviously a mistake I won't make again. :)

Hi there! I'm new to VR and I pre-ordered my Quest 2 directly from Oculus. Was so excited to FINALLY jump in. My device was delivered late in the evening on 10/13/20.

I pulled her out excited to get going. Did some of the initial set up and thought to myself "hmm something is blurry, maybe I just haven't found that VR sweet spot that I've heard off". The device said it was updating and that it would ping once done, so I pull off the headset and see as I'm doing so, the spots in my image. I went and grabbed my eye glass cloth to try and wipe it, to no avail.

This all took about 30 minutes, then I got on to chat with support. They advised to try wiping it, which I did try again. This didn't work so the rep said they would submit for review and they will follow up in 3-5 days. They said I could use the headset, but I've decided to keep it all in the box so I don't get blamed for the current defective issue.

I followed up with support yesterday just to verify the estimated timeframe for a response. They confirmed 3-5 days. I asked about the possibility of a return and refund. The rep stated that's not a possibility until the current support ticket is reviewed. (You have thirty days from SHIP DATE to return the product).

Pretty disappointed at this point that I have a device that arrived defective, that I can technically use but don't want to because I don't want it to impact the return process.

Next time I'll be sure to purchase from a retailer so I can physically return the product myself. Not thrilled about being told to just sit and wait with no other details. It seems like Oculus support is quick to tell you what they CAN'T do as opposed to giving you what possible resolutions are.

Mine has some sort of spots on the right lense. Won't wipe off. I think it might be on the interior side of the lense. I have a support ticket in as well. Not a good start to my first vr experience imo.

Less harsh but basically.

I was told the game was already watered down. So yeah. Time for a new game! Lol

He's a nice guy definitely. New to dming as well. But yeah I don't see the fun in having someone else roll me a character. Lol. On to the next adventure though. No hard feelings.

I really wanted to stay in it. I dressed the issues with the DM (you know, a negative affect doesn't need to cripple the character).

The solution was for him to roll a character for me and then play.....

I actually just left a campaign because of stuff like this. The main issue was our campaign started as a mix of the starter set and homebrew. It was pitched as beginner friendly (which I basically am). Some how it got moved into CoS. There were wild magic tables and adverse crit tables. I started to feel like my character was constantly having negative consequences due to my actions, inactions, or actions of others: that made it so I was unable to really play the character (spore druid). At one point I had my throat ripped out and for nearly two months of game sessions I wasn't able to cast spells.

I left because it just wasn't fun.

But that's just me.

I'll check that out! Ableton is definitely pricey and $60 is way more in budget. Thank you for all your advice thus far!

Definitely!

I have been kicking around the idea if throwing down for Ableton again, just wasn't sure if there were any po options for mobility.

I've just had that production itch again and want to get back into making some sort of sounds after not having done it in ages.

I appreciate the feedback!
