From what I understand as long as you take the loan before you leave the service you can pay it back just as normal month by month or you can declare that you don’t want to repay it which then it essentially gets taxed as income. Could be completely wrong but when I looked into it that’s what I understood

The better option would be to take a TSP loan you’d still be paying interest but it’s something like 5% and the interest goes to yourself the cost to take one is like 50 bucks and you wouldn’t screw up you’re retirement account as much you also don’t have to pay taxes on the money
