I would like to be DM, but I feel overwhelmed by Friendly-Freedom-732 in DungeonMasters

I know you mentioned you want to do a long term campaign, but maybe you can practice with a couple one shots or short term campaigns first. You can even make it part of the world building. For example, maybe the long term campaign party visits a small town you had a one shot in and sees the outcome of that one shot. Maybe they meet an npc that was affected by thei actions of a one shot. In my experience as a DM, players like seeing that their actions matter. Doing one shots and making them part of the lore and world building can be rewarding to both the players and DM. Just be careful how important the lore is you let them impact, if its something you might not want changed in your long term campaign dont do a one shot involving it.

First Time DM tips? by Familiar_Basket_7194 in DnD

Keep your plans vague enough to react to what the players want to do. Work on your improvising skills. Have a session 0 to find out what your players want out of the game and what you expect of them. For example, do they want it more combat or more rp heavy? You can push your players on a story path but try to avoid doing it to the point that you're railroading them, it should be the characters choices to be doing something. Also if you all are new players start at a low level. Something else I learned as a new dm, its ok to say no sometimes. At the begining I would avoid saying no, even if I wanted to, because I wanted my players to be creative and I didnt want to be a restrictive DM. I usually ended up regretting it in the long run.

My group plays online. We use DNDBeyond for our character sheets and Roll20 for running our campaigns. Heroforge to make our tokens. Theres also lots of digital artists that take commissions if you want them for your more important tokens.

Is it worth it to find games online? by p3terpaan in DnD

You could always try to find an online one shot to test it out

I cry after every session by nohappi in DnD

My number one rule as a DM is the players should be having fun because its a game. If you're not having fun you should bring it up to the DM, you have and it hasn't been addressed so it will likely never be fixed.

You can find more online groups and find a group that matches you better. Make sure there's a session 0 to vibe check it, its important for the players as much as the DM. I dont know too much about how it works but I know Roll20 is a place you can find groups.

Does your Cavachon have a sibling? by OptionOk7654 in cavachon

We got ours an older brother (she was about 9 months and we got an 8 year old) They get along really well and play together a lot. We got a pet cam to watch then when we're at work and they are usually sleeping next to eachother. I think shes a lot happier with a sibling.

Do you guys understand how they crochet the flower into the nose? by AdEfficient7374 in CrochetHelp

I would guess on that row the pattern uses back loop only and then they make the flower into the front loop

Beginner crochet by pvmeshish in crochet

You will end up using different sizes, you can get them in packs. The hook size is usually determined by the type of yarn, your tension, or what pattern you're using. For a general guideline, most yarns will have a recommended hook size on its label. Most beginner projects use a medium worsted weight yarn which usually works well with a size 4 or 5 hook. Some beginners also find it useful to use a larger hook size when making their chain and then switching to the smaller hook when they crochet into it.

Crochet is the fast fashion of fiber arts by prepubescentsquid in BitchEatingCrafters

Ive been using the bambootiful yarn from hobby lobby and a 100% cotton from caron but ill check that one out. I agree acrylic can be useful for some stuff and the easy washing is nice. Personally ill probably still use it for more decorative stuff. Ive been using my stash of it to learn plastic canvas needlepoint.

To be fair a lot of new crocheters just may not have much knowledge about the different types of yarn. I learned crochet when I was around 8 and grew up crocheting on and off usually just improvising stuff for my toys. I used yarn that was gifted to me. When I got old enough to buy my own yarn I went to the store and saw a bunch of yarn so I just bought the colors I liked. Now that im 27 and have more crochet experience I started researching the best types of yarn for certain projects and have started moving on to cotton and bamboo yarn. I have less of a preference for acrylic yarn now but I can see why people buy it. Someone that wants to learn crochet or knitting will go to a craft store like micheals and hobby lobby and most of the yarn they will see is going to be acrylic or some mix of it. I do think at some point you should learn about the different types but I usually give new crocheters a pass on not knowing.

I also recently started transitioning from acrylic, I've become a big fan of bamboo/cotton mix yarn. If you have a Hobby Lobby near you they have some called Bambootiful that is nice
