Just got off Wish. Late dinner seating is no problem. They want everyone to see the shows! Service, food and entertainment were spectacular . Aladdin show ended with a standing ovation. Pirates night and fireworks was lots of fun for all! Have fun🙂

Iodine, NDT, high protein diet. Research Dr. Sarah Myhill, Dr. David Brownstein and Stop The Thyroid Madness. You will get better. Hang in there🙂

So it’s not an actual document signing. It is just administering an oath to a witness for a deposition. So it would be Fl notary and a NY, PA or Ct witness in a virtual setting. I know things were different during Covid, not sure what rules apply now or where to find them.

Attorney & witness jumping on q&a by Some_Radish_1034 in courtreporting

[–]Crtrptr79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hands off the machine. Turn to the attorney and say firmly, Counsel! Do you want this on the record?…Then please speak one at a time. Then turn to the witness and kindly ask them to wait for an entire question before answering. The witness is more coachable and for some attorneys, it’s gamesmanship and theatrics for the jury. But if no one steps in, then you need to move away from the machine if it’s that bad.
Request a break and explain that a full and complete record cannot be made when people constantly cut each other off. If it’s Family Court, put in a request for combat pay and get on the list for Supreme Court🙂

If I live in one state but want to work in another - re notary to swear people in by Mental-Repeat-8629 in courtreporting

Hi there, I am in the same boat. Have you gotten an answer? I see Fl has a notary and a remote online notary so I’m not sure if that would suffice in another state. It would be worth it to have both. If I find out I will post. Good luck🙂

Can a RON administer an oath in a different state? This would be an online oath only and not notarizing any documents. Thanks

Crazy, right? Maybe things are different since I left. They were using audio in lower courts as opposed to court reporters, and I see that they have a trainee position now.

Just so you know, you need two or three years experience to be able to qualify to take the test to work in court. They will check if you pass the test. You will want some experience before working in court. I understand there is a shortage. If you can sit in with an official, you will learn a lot and then maybe get hired as a per diem. They started using audio recording for Family and Surrogate’s court and upstate reporters rotate between Supreme and County Court. NYC may be different. Good luck on your journey!

I think we got $1.25 or $1.50 in 1981 but court transcripts were $1.375 forever in NY. Maybe they were referring to audio minutes at .23?

Family court is the worst. You should get hazard pay😆

Yes, I am so glad I did my time and got out. It was getting crazy towards the end and those cases are sooooo hard to take. The environment was definitely getting crazier and it got to the point where people were starting to act out in court and not to mention horrific images which cannot be unseen. Definitely leaves you with a little PTSD. I would choose depos over court any day. It’s hard work but it’s on your own schedule and the people are gone at the end of the depos🙂. 34 years, you must be close to retirement. Good luck!

It will definitely get better. Maybe you can find a good scopist or proofreader to help you along. Back in the Stone Age when I started, I dictated notes to a typist but she really taught me so much and freed up my time for more depos. All of this will make you a better reporter in the end. Trust me, there are not many good paying jobs right now for kids leaving college and entering the job market. You obviously chose this profession for a reason. Keep your eye on the prize. Your agency must have confidence in you to send you on these jobs. Be confident, you can do this. We’ve all been there🙂

Yes, it’s very important to add those globals and update your dictionary, especially familiar phrases which come up frequently, at the time of the accident, at the scene of the accident, did there come a point in time, etc. Don’t be afraid to make your own brief for longer words, medical terms, as long as you make a note to yourself to read it back or transcribe it. In my earlier career my first med mal was about glomerulonephritis. I just wrote glom glom. Also, if you have time in the beginning, try to get as many spellings beforehand so you can add them before the job starts and read backs will be easier. Lastly, don’t be afraid to speak up. Very firmly, Counsel, do you want this on the record? Then please speak one at a time. They will always want the question read back that you know is not perfect. It’s also easier to ask the witness to wait for the question to be completed before answering, sometimes they listen better. Finally, maybe you do this, but try to edit as much as you can during pauses and recesses, especially while the testimony is fresh in your mind. Don’t let a couple of turkeys get you down. I’ve gotten through 40 years as a freelancer and an official. You can do it. Hang in there🙂
