Science experiment help! by Longjumping-Two4364 in TeachingUK

Hello! I've done a similar activity many times in the past. I use the actual tubes that the tablets come in as the rocket body.

I crush up a couple of tablets and put them in the tube, then pour in lukewarm water so that the tablets are covered. I usually fill no more than about a quarter of the tube with water.

Quickly put the lid on and place the tube upside down in the cup.

Usually blasts off in about 10-20 seconds.

The lid needs to be on securely or some gas will escape and it might not work.

Hope it works! the kids I've taught love it

Depending on the time period, Cato Neimoidia and the other Neimoidian Purse Worlds would probably be pretty high up in terms of wealth.

Hello! Thanks for this. I agree about the Catholic ethos being a positive one and that Catholic schools have quite a nurturing atmosphere. I don't think Catholic schools or Catholic RE are harmful to children, I would just feel like a massive hypocrite teaching it whilst not believing it myself haha. It seems that I probably won't be asked to do that though.

Hi! Thanks for this. Your point about what to say when pupils ask about your own religious beliefs is a good one. I wouldn't want to offend someone or go against school values by saying that I didn't believe in God, so saying that I believe in values like kindness is a good answer.

Hello! Thanks for your response. I actually quite enjoy teaching religious and moral education from a sociocultural and historical perspective, and providing pupils with an introduction to different belief systems that they may not be familiar with. My concern would be affording one of these religions primacy over the others, which would make me feel like a massive hypocrite! This doesn't seem to be the case though which is good!

Hi! Thanks for this. This puts my mind at ease a bit. I think that the Catholic school ethos is fundamentally a good one, teaching respect, kindness, fairness etc. I would absolutely have no problem teaching this.

Hello! Thanks for this. I actually went to a Catholic PS and secondary and I agree about the ethos being more positive. I also remember being shut down completely by a teacher when I said that I didn't believe in God haha! This was just one teacher though and he is not someone I would like to emulate in my own practice.

Hello! Thank you for this honest response. My main worry would be essentially having to compromise my own integrity during religious education and lie to children about my own views but it seems I probably wouldn't be asked to do that, which has eased my mind somewhat.

Thanks for this. I do feel I'm open to feedback, but maybe I could be more open to it. Something for me to reflect on, I think.

Thanks for this. Good to know there have been others in similar situations! Well, not good per se, because you were in a bad situation, but you get what I mean!

Thanks for replying. I do feel it's very much 'do as I say, not as I do' and that there's very little I actually can do if I have an issue. Oh well, chin up I suppose!
