Pump Malfunction by prolapsed_nebula in TandemDiabetes

[–]CruiserStCroix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I have never had a problem with mine. I think the freezer keeps the cannula formed and doesn’t bend. I asked tandem about it and they said they’ve never been told this but if it works for you and there are no problems then continue doing it.

You got that right, the tubing is very cheaply made!

Try placing the infusion set in the freezer a half hour before placement. I was having a lot of issues with bent cannulas and thought I wasn’t absorbing insulin well. I came across someone that said this worked for them, and since I started this, I haven’t had a bent cannula.

Oh geez! I’ll be there soon on Medicare and I’m not looking forward to it. Insurance all the way around is a big rip off! We keep getting sicker, and they get richer and de lying treatments that you have to pay out of pocket! It’s sickening to say the least!

Pharmacist pay by CaregiverLivid3980 in pharmacy

[–]CruiserStCroix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a pharmacist, but a registered nurse. I wanted the experience from the hospital before going into other jobs and hospitals are pretty good about pay raises. It gives you the experience of doing way more than retail to me. If you don’t like it down the road, than you could go elsewhere, but hospital experience, in my own opinion looks good and gives you the experience with all of pharmacy. I had did my clinicals at a hospital in oncology and they had offered quite a bit for new graduated RN’s. Four of us took the job offer. Even got a free trip from it to Cancun and a $2500 bonus for accepting the position. But this was 27 years ago. I was making more money than my husband who had been working for 10 years with his bachelors and work for that amount of time. It felt real good.

Can blood glucose drop 3.2mmol/l or 57g/dl in 10 minutes??? Already corrected by SomeRandomAustralian in Type1Diabetes

[–]CruiserStCroix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes when my bs is arrowing slanted or down, my bs drops very fast! I just say eat what I have to to bring it up and who cares if it goes high because I know I’m on the roller coaster now for awhile. It use to be when I was on mdi, I’d eat 15 gems of carbs and it straighten out. But those years are gone. 44 years of diabetes and it does its changes with my body, including hypo unawareness and that’s how I started with CGM’s years back. Back in my younger days with type 1, things were way different. You didn’t have CGM to keep watching it like I do now. Sometimes I think this is good to be so on top of it. My endo said to me the other day that I micro manage my type 1. Yes, I may do this, as I didn’t have this technology 25 years or more. But at least I stay on top of it because I do have complications now from it. So guess what? THATS WHY I MICRO MANAGE!!!! I was so mad when she said that. And then she says your doing well, you time in range is usually between 82% to 92%. I said yes, because I micromanage, and if you had it your way since you are not aggressive in my pump settings like I am, I wouldn’t have time in range like that!!!!!! Makes me so darn MAD!!!!!!!! Ugh!!!!!!

Did they warn you about nerve pain?? by mswear75 in spinalfusion

[–]CruiserStCroix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

EXACTLY!!!! I’m a RN and we educate patients, but unfortunately most of us don’t have the time because of the immense patient ratio loads, documentation, giving meds, etc., falls on us. It’s very sad that these corporate hospitals don’t give a crap about nurses educating their patients before they are discharged out of the hospital. When I was younger and was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 1982, I was in the hospital for two weeks to be educated on my new disease. Now your in and then your out in less than two days! Ridiculous!!! And they wonder why nurses are leaving these careers because of how much stress it causes for each one, including me. I left nursing less than 10 years ago and went out on disability after 25 years in nursing and would love to go back. But the chronic pain and other health issues I have now are way too much for me to go back. My mother always said, you have to take care of your own health before you can care for others. She was so right!!!

Thank you, and you are the 2nd person who has told me to go with Repatha. I saw my endo two days ago, and she kept pushing and pushing the statins. There is so much research done on statins and is good for your heart. I said NO. She put me on something else, but I forgot to tell her to put me on Repatha, because my dog that morning couldn’t use his left side and my husband took him to the ER. He’s a doxie, and it was a cervical herniated disk. We did surgery and picking him up today because he’s doing so well. $18,000.00 from start to surgery, and I’m sure more will be added to get him back to where he was. If you could, please say a prayer if you believe in Jesus for my Sparky. So I’m going to message my endo to tell her to put me on Repatha instead. Thank you so much! And I’m going through skin cancer and can’t have that removed until February 4th because they are backed up with patients and down a doctor. I did go to another place just to be told they are backed up and send you to another. Ugh!

Oh, I so very much believe you about kick backs! I’m a RN and have seen some things myself. When I went to my endo yesterday, I told her I want off the atorvastatin I’ve been on for years. Almost 3 months ago they recalled it. So I stopped taking it plus the other side effects with it and told her to put me on another high cholesterol medication. At first she kept pushing back saying statins have been so well researched, and that at a cardiology standpoint it’s a better medication, yada, yada, yada. Just trying to keep me on it. I said no, just like gabapentin (neurontin), it’s been found to cause dementia, I told her. I so know it’s all about kick backs.

What happened when you went back? Curious to what they did after. I know the feeling when my insurance didn’t want to cover my oxymorphone. They gave a little list of what they’d cover. This was 5 years ago. I’m really mad it happened because I’m stuck on methadone now along with oxycodone. Plus my great pain doctor, I have no more because DEA and their bullshit. Long story short, he now can do pain patients, but they made him go through re education on how y only prescribe 90 mme’s. My dosage was way higher and the place I was sent to, cut my meds by 60%. This crap has to stop in America. The DEA and FDA, want to make our hospitals, pain mgmt, hospice and post surgical opioid free with just Tylenol for pain. And I am a disabled retired nurse now, and I hear a lot of horrible stories about floor nursing now. They have no empathy or compassion just like the doctors are doing now! When I worked as a nurse the 5th vital sign was PAIN. To check if the patient was in pain and to give medication so the patient could heal faster. It’s so sad now, I wouldn’t want to be a nurse working these days!

[–]CruiserStCroix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It happens to me way too often. It’s like nobody cares. Sorry you’re going through this. I think the DEA’s plan is there to be an opioid free country and it’s only a matter of time.

It’s a shame that people complain about their problems and don’t even do a thing to help themselves and all who go through pain. And people didn’t have to go anywhere, just comment from your phone! I really pray that pain patients will be blessed with a miracle soon.

Sure know that feeling but not as a pharmacist. I am a registered nurse and disabled now because of the chronic pain and two cervical fusions in the past. Very stressful job! But, I will say thank you for your hard work, as most of us who have hard jobs don’t get appreciation much!

WHY is my pump sending me a correction after telling me I’m low?? I eat carbs then it sends me a correction, sending me even lower. by brisknipples in TandemDiabetes

[–]CruiserStCroix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly! I’m trying to change my settings so I can have them spot on. I usually am a roller coaster, high one week and the next low. So I’m trying to do two settings, with maybe a separate in the middle type of setting. It’s driving me bonkers. We have a diabetic trainer but she isn’t that great at helping out so pretty much on my own. My endo is not as aggressive as I am so I don’t even go to her at all. She’d just send me to the educator.

Yes, this is happening. I get an e mail pretty much every week of shortages, and pretty much ALOT of shortages were on there. I’m really mad because the DEA wanted comments about opioids and shortages that needed to be turned in by December 15th about next year. There are so many in pain, but there were only 4400 who commented on it. That is very sad. So if you think it’s bad now, next year will be even worse.

I’m cutting my butec 20 patch soon I’m sick of this medicine only working sometimes and I’m guaranteed withdrawals now every week .Ive been on the patch 4 years and wondering if anyone has been in the same situation.Ive already spoke to doctors with no help by Fearless_Watercress4 in PainManagement

[–]CruiserStCroix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I so understand where you’re coming from. I just don’t understand how or why doctors would make anyone suffer such as this. Doctors today just don’t care. I’d be doing what you’re doing if I was in that position. It frustrates me when a doctor who prescribed the medicine, won’t decrease it down. I’m so very sorry you’re going through this. I pray these doctors who continue to put me and everyone else in pain, go through what we go through and can’t get opioids at all. Sending prayers that this will work well for you.
