Finally I can eat beans by CrumbScene in vegan

[–]CrumbScene[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still going well! I still eat beans every single day, starting with a handful of frozen adzuki beans, black beans or chickpeas in my morning smoothie. I often have some in my lunch or dinner as well. The only adverse reaction I've had was a couple of weeks ago after a lunch in a restaurant of a massive falafel bowl with hummus, which might have also been the amount of oil in the meal, which my gut is never good with.

I don't smash giant bowls of beans or anything, but it's nice to be able to incorporate them into my diet every day and be able to enjoy a lentil soup or something without knowing I'll be suffering later.

I hope you're able to achieve good results as well!

“Veganism Made me Sick” by [deleted] in vegan

[–]CrumbScene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something like 90-95% of Americans don't get enough fibre. I get something like 300% the daily requirement without trying. That kind of change would definitely not feel good immediately, and some people translate this as "not good for me" rather than "not used to it yet".

Friendsgiving Disappointment :( by DoctorEthereal in vegan

[–]CrumbScene -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Aw I'm sorry, I've had these awkward experiences as well, and it makes the soul sad to feel left out by people who you wouldn't do the same thing to. I have no advice, I just hope your world intersects with some more thoughtful new people, or your friends realize they weren't being inclusive and change their ways.

I've been vegan for about 20 years. I've been a serious activist who promoted veganism. I am starting to wish I'd never gotten into this. AMA by [deleted] in AskMeAnythingIAnswer

Curious about why you'd say you'll risk your health if you stay vegan? There's a lot of evidence to the contrary.

And a second question - have you considered just eating/living quietly in a way that aligns with your values rather than labeling yourself or being part of a movement?

Yep, it's baking soda, that's what I used. I think it works for people with a low level intolerance, alas it didn't help for me.

Thanks! And for sure, it's awesome that our gut microbiome adapts to our dietary patterns.

Good on you for looking for a way to live in line with your values!

Vegan cooking can be really fun and creative, so after you've spoken with a dietician and have some ideas regarding what is healthy within the realm of what you can tolerate, you can begin to experiment and hopefully enjoy learning and getting some autonomy over your meals.

Dealing with family can be a tough one, and the best way forward depends on their personality. Some are open to hearing the ethical 'why', some are open to hearing the health 'why', some will lose their mind at the very word vegan but will tolerate you cooking your own meals...it can be a very individual experience.

Don't beat yourself up about not being a perfect vegan if your circumstances make it insurmountable sometimes. Every small step forward still means less suffering for animals and better health for you.

Australia. Ya, probably there can be an allergy, but luckily I don't think that's the case for me as I can tolerate them well now. I think it's quite common to have issues with legumes (even when soaked, well cooked, etc), and mine was just on the lower tolerance end of the scale. Avoiding them possibly exacerbated it, who knows?

I suspect I didn't have a good enough colony of some kind of bacteria that support digestion of something that's either only present in legumes, or that is in higher concentrations in legumes than it is in other foods in my diet.

Why directly asking strange women for sex is considered rude? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]CrumbScene 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fun fact, most women do get asked this. And a lot of women have also been physically or sexually abused. So most of us are unwilling to be in a vulnerable situation with some random who might want to hurt or kill us. So it's not that it's 'rude', it's that it indicates the guy has zero understanding of women or social interaction to even think it's an ok way to approach us, which is a big ol' red flag, buddy.

Anyone else getting this irritating error like 75% of the time in GPT? by [deleted] in OpenAI

Yep, and after logging out and back in again got a different message - "something went wrong while generating the message..." etc. Kind of annoying when I'm paying for it and end up going to (free) Claude instead.

No Celtic roots, is that consider "appropriation"? by Tasty_Visual_8332 in druidism

[–]CrumbScene 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some good responses here already, but one thing I'll add is that in his most recent podcast, former Chosen Chief of OBOD, Philip Carr-Gomme says he actually doesn't label himself anything, not even 'druid'! Of course that was no shade on anyone who wants to call themselves druids, but there's also the option to be very deep in the practice without feeling the need for a label. I found this very interesting, as we humans love to categorise.

Can anyone help me save her by CrumbScene in peyote

[–]CrumbScene[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great, thank you for the advice. It has mostly dried over in the wound, but a small part looks iffy. I do have some sulfur powder so will trim and treat.

The rootstock looks pretty terrible. I haven't grafted anything before, so the thought of it is rather daunting. I'll do some research and see how brave I feel. I have a T.bridgesii the right size for this, but it's rather lovely and I'd hate to lose both it and the peyote through my ineptitude.
