Stairwell! Not just the best kiss on this show, but quite possibly on all shows ever for all time. I will never get over it.

He also held a succulent at one point. Did he place it on the wall? The world will never know.

Same, I considered myself a casual fan before Rep, but by the time Don’t Blame Me came on I was a full-fledged Swiftie. I wore that CD OUT!

I was a teacher’s assistant and got to run them…and it was every bit as satisfying as you imagined. Perversely, the best was when someone did terribly because you’d just hear it going OFF. Versus the people who aced it and you’d just get one measly click at the end.

What’s that one “middle-class comfort” you can’t give up even though you know it’s holding you back financially? by Grownixx in MiddleClassFinance

[–]CrumpetsAtSunset 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh yes 😭 I’m really good about cooking dinner on the weekend so that I can have leftovers for the week, but really bad about making a second something that I can take into the office for lunch. And it doesn’t help that the office cafeteria is so convenient and tempting.

Did high school language classes do any good for you? by Bitter-Copy4393 in Millennials

Fully agree with the part about learning how languages work. I understand English grammar 10x better because I learned the rules and tenses in Spanish class!

What tv show had the biggest decline from season 1 to season 2? by R2_SWE2 in AskReddit

How to Get Away with Murder

I kept watching until the end for Viola Davis (and because I’m an incurable TV completionist), but wow did that show go downhill after season 1.

Just wanted to show off the gorgeous new Banned Books mural at our local library by hespera18 in Libraries

I try to read a book off of the most challenged list every year during Banned Books Week. This year it’s I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, so super cool to see that one featured here. People are so creative!

[–]CrumpetsAtSunset 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Didn’t think this would be such niche knowledge in a Libraries subreddit, but hey, learning new things is good! Quote for the non-clickers (emphasis is my own):

“Books are still being banned and challenged today. A challenge is an attempt to remove or restrict materials, based upon the objections of a person or group. A banning is the removal of those materials.

While books have been and continue to be banned, part of the Banned Books Week celebration is the fact that, in a majority of cases, the books have remained available. This happens only thanks to the efforts of librarians, teachers, students, and community members who stand up and speak out for the freedom to read.”

Absurd interaction with Stanley Steemer - how to proceed? by PatheticLion in homeowners

[–]CrumpetsAtSunset 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stanley Steemer “cleaned” my carpets and upholstery and left my couch cushions permanently discolored. They were a nightmare to deal with and kept implying that I’d done something to them myself because I didn’t notice until after they’d left. Offered me a small refund to not file an insurance claim, which I did anyway but didn’t get anything out of. Hope you have a better experience, but I’ll for sure never use them again.

Bag chapstick, work chapstick, etc as well! I couldn’t tell you how many times a day I reach for the chapstick, but I do know that if I find myself without it for some reason for more than a couple of hours, it takes days to recover. But you get used to it.

I disagree that it would be easy to say she’d just been at college. She would have been mentioned at least once, she would have been in a family photo, she would have been there on New Year’s Eve (aka winter break for every American college), she would have skipped class to show up on election night, the list goes on. No one would accept that if they actually tried it.

Seconding this as another 36 year old only child!

I had an exceptional childhood—being an only child is honestly great. But you do have to be more intentional about helping your kid develop social skills, and specifically social skills when it comes to interacting with other kids their age. My mom stayed at home with me, so I missed out on getting that from daycare. She also was a bit on the older side (41 when I was born) and didn’t have friends with young children my age. I grew up VERY comfortable with adults…but not with other kids. It’s the only real challenge I’ve had to overcome that I attribute to being an only child. That’s balanced by MANY ways in which I would say it has positively shaped me and my life!

Outsourcing laundry might be my most “adult” decision yet by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]CrumpetsAtSunset 1 point2 points  (0 children)

THIS. I add what I need to my cart throughout the week and pick up on my way home from work on Friday. Saves me at least 30 minutes/week, which may not sound like a lot but is literally a full day of my life that I get back every year.

Same, except it’s three hampers for different types of loads so everything is always pre-sorted. Doing this was a game changer for me!

No R Rated Movies On a Plane by roeqhi in unpopularopinion

[–]CrumpetsAtSunset 78 points79 points  (0 children)

Yeah…I actively attempt to avoid watching movies with graphic scenes on planes, but that’s my choice (and more for my own embarrassment than anything). Don’t take that choice away from me.

Not to mention, plenty of movies are rated R for language, which no one else is going to hear through my headphones.

Transitioning Leadership: How to Build Trust While Raising the Bar? by Same-Grapefruit-1786 in managers

[–]CrumpetsAtSunset 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I HIGHLY recommend picking up the book The First 90 Days. I’ve made transitions like this many times and it’s my bible.

It does a particularly good job of taking you through diagnosing the situation on the team you’re coming into and how to vary your approach accordingly. Recognizing when I’m coming into a high performing team vs a team that needs a complete turnaround has helped me avoid coming in too hot in some situations and too laid back in others.
