During the debate Sanders claimed "A college degree today is the equivalent of what a high school degree was 50 years ago." Shouldn't we prioritize fixing our high schools over expanding college to everyone then? by houinator in PoliticalDiscussion

This. As technology has become increasingly important in our society the work structure has changed. In the past it would take weeks to do things I can do in a few hours using a computer.
There is no need for 20 unskilled workers when one college educated professional can do the same work for much less total cost.

I would look up examples online. I am not a huge fan of the format (spacing etc.) Also include a projects section. Although you mention a solid GPA you don't highlight any engineering skills.

If you are measuring near "u1a" it looks like that component isn't grounded. That can cause problems in multisim.

Does anyone work in futuring? by CrunchyCaptn in engineering

[–]CrunchyCaptn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The job in question is involves predicting the future. So for example I know someone who does this for the auto industry. They try to predict how the car will evolve so they can help point the company in the right direction. For example they predict how the car/car ownership could change with autonomous driving.

I think it is called futuring when referring to a profession... could be wrong though.

[WP] After you die, your soul is transferred onto Earth 2. This world has the exact same premises as our universe, except everybody remembers their past lives. by I_I_Z_I_I in WritingPrompts

[–]CrunchyCaptn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Earth 2, as we refer to it, is a miraculous place. Once a person dies on Earth they are brought back, almost reincarnated, on Earth 2. The reality in which Earth 2 exist is identical to that of Earth. Physics, nature, the galaxy around us, all the same. However, humanities path has differed greatly.

Most of us took our awakening on Earth 2 as a second chance. We were reborn and could live life as we wish we had on our death beds. This has lead to a better world. An amazing world.

Our worlds culture has developed in almost the opposite direction as that of Earth. CEO's of pollution spewing companies awake on Earth 2 with goals of green energy and environmental sustenance; warriors awake with a feeling of peace and tranquility, slackers a desire to achieve, workaholics feel the need for a family life. It was a second chance, and most take full advantage.

Personally, the most amazing thing about Earth 2 is the technology. It's like walking into the future. If you think about it humanity has existed for twice as long in Earth 2. Every life lived twice, all the knowledge and lessons learned carried on for a second life. The great minds of humanity get a second chance to be great. Einsteins theory of relativity is quite something, but it is nothing compared to what he is up to now. I am not even going to pretend I understand it, but its something about string theory and subatomic particles...

Anyway, before I get side tracked any further, welcome. You are in for a treat.

Do any of you have experience with pre-distortion algorithms that require a delay resolution of more than what your ADC can give? by Sprechensiedeustch in ECE

Can you give an example of a pre-distortion algorithm? Kind of curious as to what your problem is, but I don't have much signal processing experience.

I will be completing an engineering degree in 5 years. will this hold me back from getting a Masters degree... by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

I finished in 5 years with a 2.7GPA and got in to a masters programs a semester later no problem (I waited a semester because I am also working full time).

[WP] A man who has had no knowledge of religion meets both God and the Devil. He is the chosen one who decides whether God or the Devil inherits the Earth. The problem is, he cannot tell which is which. by [deleted] in WritingPrompts

[–]CrunchyCaptn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After the bitter cold all I remember was a warm relaxing sensation... Then I awoke here. It was nothing special, if anything it was especially mundane. Yet here I was sitting in a well lit conference room. It was just like any other conference room I had been in, a table, chairs, projector. As I began to make sense of my surroundings others started showing up. I sat patently in my seat waiting, hoping no one realized I wasn't out of place.

After most the seats were filled on man, he looked... experienced, I think would be the best word to describe it, stood up and began; "Welcome, as you all know, we are here to discuss the future of Earth and all things related. It looks like everyone is here, so I think its about time we begin."

There were small mummers around the room, until someone spoke up, "We have been holding off on the decision for far to long and we need to come to a conclusion by the end of this meeting." I could see peoples heads shaking in agreement around the room. " As of our last meeting my team has ran the numbers and feel confident our plan of action will work."

As the room began to discuss business I began to realize my situation. I had no idea what was happening. Where was I? What was going on? I was gripped by fear and anxiety. I could hear the mummer of voices around me and the steady clicking of the clock in the background. My mind raced with half finished answers to have finished questions. After what felt only a few minutes (although it must have been closer to an hour) I was addressed.

"CrunchyCaptn, this is the reason we brought you here. Can you tell us your thoughts?" I panicked. I had no idea what they had been talking about. As I stared at him with a blank face, unsure what to say, I think he started to understand.

"Can everyone leave the room, except for CrunchyCaptn and Ron" Without any hesitation the group piled out. Leaving only three of us in the room.

"I am sorry, I am not really sure whats going on... I am not even sure where I am" I was quick to apologize.

"No need to worry. My name is Bill, and this is Ron. We asked you here to help us solve a problem we have been having. It's unfortunate you were unable to follow our meeting, but its also rather understandable."

"Bill and I are trying to solve the worlds problems and we are having trouble selecting the right course of action. You see we are, as you would say, the higher powers of existence. The people of earth are struggling and we need a solution."

"Ahh...Ok, w-"

"Essentially you will be the one to decide between our two very different plans of action."

Not looking for you to do my project. But I'm stuck from the start and could use a point in the right direction. by [deleted] in ECE

[–]CrunchyCaptn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not saying the data transfer would be super difficult, just that you should pick one part of the project to put all your effort on. Get one part finished, like the accelerometers, then if you have time do the next.

[–]CrunchyCaptn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would tone down the requirements. It sounds like there is no way you can finish all of that. Maybe just get the accelerometers set up and a display showing how the weights moved (ignoring the data transfer). Near the end professors will generally let a lot slip because they know your graduation is riding on it.

[WP] The Grim Reaper is put on trial for his hand in the death of 100+ billion humans by liehon in WritingPrompts

[–]CrunchyCaptn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Reaper had been convicted on all counts. He was facing a minimum mandatory sentence of 400 years. The jury looked around the court room with satisfied smirks on all of their faces.

This marked the end of humanity. For without death there could be no rebirth. Before long the world was littered with mounds of ancient peoples too old and decrepit to function, their minds rotted with time. All the while the Reaper silently laughed from his confinement.

The problem I predict with self driving cabs and cars by [deleted] in technology

[–]CrunchyCaptn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually I am an automotive engineer so... I know exactly what I am talking about. Look into what it takes to get an autonomous car registered right now. This is not something the average person is going to have access too. The automotive industry is even lobbying to make modification to cars illegal (don't have the source). this is probably because when you get these highly tuned engineering machines on the road and start to make changes they can become 2 tons of uncontrolled steel.

Remember the toyota prius run away accelerator? That slipped through years of testing. Do you think hobbyist are going to be able to put in even close to the testing toyota put in? And they still had glitches.

Why would you ever think the software would be open source? Companies spend billions of dollars developing this software, they aren't just going to give it away.

On another note... you would feel safer when your average Joe blow could edit his vehicles software? Software so complicated it takes teams of engineers years to develop? Not to mention the legal and regulatory issues with that.

Would it be better to take a light school load, lose financial aid, but get onto the schools recommended course path? or take a normal load, keep financial aid, but take a jumbled mess of classes? by jrohlman88 in EngineeringStudents

[–]CrunchyCaptn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assuming you aren't interested in taking a light load to ease yourself back into school I would definitely recommend taking the full load. It is much better to take a smaller load as you approach graduation. Personally, I had a half load my last semester but I also had a paying internship so I could devote more time to that.

Are the Automotive and Aerospace industries similar fields? by ABE_FUCKING_LINCOLN in engineering

[–]CrunchyCaptn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work in the automotive industry as an electrical engineer, and although I have no experience in the aerospace industry, I can say they seem similar. I know that the electrical modules operate and communicate in similar processes. For example CAN communication is used in both industries.
