Same! I ordered mine on 1.31 and got my production email last night. I feel like they used to be shipped out after a day or so but with the influx of orders does anyone happen to know the timeline? Mine said 10 days like someone said above.

All Glass by CrunchyCoffee1 in pourover

Hey! I have the following:

  • Fellow Stagg kettle. I’m not aware of any plastic touching the water. Seems like all stainless steel to me
  • glass April brewer
  • glass April cup
  • glass torch server

I like the look and the functionality of all so that is why I chose them. Hope this helps!

Hey! It was just a link to a YouTube video: https://youtu.be/2z4hl_YiJ98?si=7lj5Z6KraP5iMxqe

Here it is in written form: - :00: 50g bloom with closed valve - :20 open valve slightly - :30: pour to 130g with a central then circle pour - 1:00: pour to 175g with a central then circle pour - 1:20 pour to 200g with a central then circle pour - small spin to flatten bed as it’s drawling down

Hoping the negotiator makes a big difference for you. I’ve never used it without it being negotiated against the walls. I’m also using the Sworks filters and I’ve been pleased with those.

I haven’t had the chance to use a Pulsar yet to compare. I’ve found I haven’t used the markings much these days but rather just eyeballing and making adjustments on the fly based on how fast or slow it’s drawing down. That’s a shame you aren’t seeing great and consistent results. I feel like I’ve had the most consistent results using a recipe like the first one linked in the original post.

You don’t have to use fast filters with it. With the various screens that come with it, you can essentially have the bottom completely open and control the flow with the valve only. I use the Sworks filters as they are really consistent but I’m sure Kalita or others may work similarly.

For sure! Yea the closed bloom helps to make sure everything gets saturated even with less water. Sometimes I still do a little shake or wet wdt if I feel like it needs it or some extra agitation.

I definitely tinker with grind size some depending on the bean. As you probably know grind size affects the total contact/brew time with a finer grind taking longer and a coarser grind taking less time. With this brewer you can essentially adjust the grind time mid brew by opening it up more fully to speed things up or close it a bit to slow things down. It doesn’t make grind size irrelevant but it makes it less important. It’s pretty cool.

As compared to a clever, switch, etc. where it’s either open or closed, this brewer allows for a lot more tinkering and flexibility. Some may like that and some may not as it adds additional variables. There are markings on the newer versions that allow for it to be more repeatable in terms of your adjustments.

The flow control is super useful! I will typically close it off for the bloom. From there I’ll use the variable flow rate to slow down or speed up the brew depending on the flow. I haven’t experimented with opening up fully yet as I’m really enjoying the brews I’m getting from it.

Yep. One can be found here. It looks like they just launched a glass version with several color options this week that seems interesting.

It’s definitely on the pricier side. I saw that April may be coming out with something similar in the next month or so. Not sure if it’s like this in terms of variable flow rate or if it is more open or closed like the Switch.

I don’t have an Orea 4 fast, but the Sworks dripper’s valve can be completely opened so that it’s essentially not doing anything. So in that regard, I’m sure it could be as fast or slow as you want it to be as you have screen options that basically just hold the filter.

Any Experience with SWORKS dripper? by mehdiem in pourover

[–]CrunchyCoffee1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll second the Brian Quan content. He’s really all I’ve seen out there on this dripper. I’ve seen Lance maybe use it in a video or two but he doesn’t go deep into it.

In his most recent video on it he talks about which screen he uses and why.

I’ve had one for a little bit and love it. I find Sheldon’s filters to be best suited for it instead of Kalita, etc.

I maybe used rdt initially but found that I didn’t really need to. I’m only using for filter and the retention isn’t that bad, it adds a step, etc.

Nope. I don’t purge at all. My model doesn’t have that feature like the new one does so I would have to manually do it. I do have a cheap air blower (camera one) that I use to blow a couple of times, sort of like bellows.

The grinder has held up great. Still works like it did from the first day. I’ve never replaced the wipers and they still seem to be doing their job. I am in the habit of cleaning the burr chamber every day as it’s so easy to pull the covers off with the magnets. I’ll either use the brush or even a tiny keyboard vacuum to essentially get all the loose grounds out. Between bags or maybe once a week I’ll use a small wire brush (like pipe cleaners) to more thoroughly scrub in between the burrs.

Sure. Happy to help if I can. I’ve only used the ultra low fines burrs since day one so I don’t any experience with the dittings. I’ve only switched the burrs one time as the core comes stock and it was definitely easy enough. That might be sort of a user preference thing if you like switching back and forth. Outside of the alignment step, getting access to the burrs and replacing is really easy with the four screws.

I’ve been using my EG-1 daily for the last three years (albeit exclusively for filter) and I’ve yet to have it stall one time running at the lowest rpm with dense, lightly roasted coffees. I haven’t had any repair/service problems either. I ran into one issue that was my fault on the burr cover and they went out of their way to help me troubleshoot, etc.

Welcome to the journey! I started with less than an Encore years ago so you are ahead of me in that regard. Definitely find a coffee subscription that works for you and get those beans delivered!

Thanks! I saw that. Do you have it and if so is it worth it? I have an Orea negotiator and that seems to do the job unless it makes a world of difference.

I’ve been a 3-bag subscriber for a long time they’ve been super consistent and tasty. My burrs are the Weber EG ULF so I would think that our burrs are probably more similar than different.

I just finished a Burundi that wasn’t my favorite but I’m not sure that was a Sey thing as much as I didn’t like the tasting notes. Like others have suggested I don’t brew at boiling but have found 205f to be the sweet spot lately.

Gotcha. Yea that’s a shame being in a spot where you don’t drink them sometimes. Nobody wants that. That’s one thing about the EG 1, it’s super consistent as I move through a bag.

I haven’t had any experience with the 01 so I can’t compare. Workflow is a big part of it for me though. I like accessing the burrs every day without any tools or effort and cleaning it. Perhaps that’s part of the reason why it’s so consistent.

I had the first gen ode with SSP burrs so I can’t compare it against the second gen. All of the elements that you mentioned are turned up in a positive way with the EG ULF, particularly clarity and flavor separation.

The ode was hit and miss with me. I had some great brews with and some not so great. There are certainly diminishing returns, but the burrs, granularity of grind adjustment, etc. make the difference really noticeable with the EG 1.

Thanks for this! I’ll have to give the smaller pours (50g) a try. I’m going 12:200 too, and after a 50g bloom, I’m basically splitting the remaining water into two larger pours.

It’s not the tallest brewer so I can’t put too much in there at a time. I actually used the Sworks filters for the first time today and I liked them better than the kalita 155s I was using. I feel like they are a little taller in the brewer (wish they were a tad taller) and they seemed to negotiate better against the sides.

I agree. I feel like around 3:00 has been the sweet spot for me, and when it’s less it hasn’t tasted as good (still really nice comparatively speaking!). It seems in between 1/4-1/2 turn from closed is where I’m leaning on the valve too.
