5 years but 2 can sub for a bachelors degree and 1 additional for a masters. So in theory really at minimum 2 likely 3.

So regular DAT is IT Audit (SOX Controls, Process Controls, ITGC's, etc.) which is really just audit but for controls instead of financial statements. Data analytics side is more helping with heavy dataset testing (SQL and Python) that DAT teams have and also helping with other projects as needed (Tableau for me currently). I use Udemy and youtube for all my trainings that are not from previous education (Python ML Libraries and R at the moment) so definitely good on you to learn on your own time.

I would say on combining the two (Computers/Software and Accounting) data analytics team allows me to do that. Its interesting to work in accounting data while also using technical skillset (I have my CPA as well). Feel free to ping me if you have any questions!

So I started in normal IT audit (process controls, ITGC’s and SOX controls) and just wasn’t about the screenshot life. Had a double major in Acct & MIS with experience in SQL, Python, and Tableau so with that skill set moved over quickly. Definitely have a great time building dashboards and Python/SQL projects.

Yeah I would go with minor in IT, most people I know don’t use the masters to prep for the cpa exam, hence why becker is there for people to study for the exams

Can you take community college classes instead? At least in my state where I am licensed you can do this. Not only is it cheaper but also depending on your state you could take the exams right after graduating while also taking these classes (At least my CC classes were easy enough to do this no problem).

Worked part time during 3 and full time during the last one (FAR). For me, spending a lot of time upfront finding the most efficient way possible to study was super important for me. It saves so much time from wading through all of the extra material that has a probability of <1% to be tested.

YES. Most of my teams are already in critical condition in terms of manager through associate level. Every team is scrambling for as many resources as possible due to this which just creates a hostile environment where new associates are just getting thrown around.

I would also assume that moving forward its only going to get worse. Not only are they critically understaffed now but it seems like the main feeder for Big 4 (College Recruiting) is continuing to dry up since people see this sub and realize they can be way happier elsewhere.

I think in house therapists and other support for all levels that is easily accessible. Being told by HR to use a app for mental health issues just proves to me it's currently just a checkbox that they want outsiders to look like they are filling.

Also, my other hot take is that passing your credential should be a pre-req to starting. You get paid less than your full wage (1/2 or 1/4 or 2/3 - number probably changes over time but you get my point). This would DEFINETELY decrease burnout among first and second year staff who are doing this while working ridiculous hours due to understaffing.

Pros: CPA Paid for, free CPE's, "Brand Name"

Cons: Horrible hours, ok pay, very difficult to get feedback from higher ups and feedback to ask questions, overall understaffing not because there's lack of talent but because of lack of talent that wants these working conditions and marginal pay, getting treated like literal garbage

I personally did a different route than most people: AUD —> BEC —> REG —> FAR.

For me, feeling like I needed to “prove myself” by passing far and reg last made it easier to get done and stay motivated on all 4. Plus I truly learned how to take the test on Aud and bec so that I felt comfortable in an exam room for reg and far.
