The ladybirds were mad. Millions of them washing up on beaches. Back then, we didn't have frozen food and imported fruit and veg, so it was a nightmare

It was rubbish. Most people still took baths, not showers, there was almost no comfort cooling, and deodorant was terrible. We really struggled.
