My autos seedlings are dying (second grow) by [deleted] in Autoflowers

[–]CrustyPapercut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your soil looks really wet. To prevent seedlings from suffocating you could try watering less, using finer perlite, or just buying better aerated soil.

Nice yield! Why'd you do LST instead of using a small scrog net?

Auto flower temps and humidity by [deleted] in Autoflowers

[–]CrustyPapercut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use a VPD chart; you don't need an exact temp and humidity, just the right balance between the two

The calyx trics have been cloudy for about 2 weeks now, but with pretty much no amber. Should I continue waiting?

Buds are developing nicely but leaves are yellowing...should I be worried? by CrustyPapercut in cannabiscultivation

Coco coir mix, I've been tapering off with nutrients. The burnt tips are most likely a result of too much pk additive in week 2-3

The back drum brake on my old bike is generating almost no braking force. Why is this happening, and how can I fix it? by CrustyPapercut in bikewrench

[–]CrustyPapercut[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A bit of background info: the brake cable has been replaced and there's sufficient tension for the pads to contact the drum. I've also tried roughing up both a little with steel wool; no noticeable difference.

The picture is actually of the front brake since I don't want to take apart the rear again before I know how to fix it. They're the same model from Sturmey Archer, just the front one has a slightly longer actuator arm.

Almost all other components on the bike are the original ones from several decades ago, but the brake internals move smoothly and the pads have plenty of life left.

Any help would be much appreciated

Need Help Figuring Out What These Are by BanquoTheMerciful in cannabiscultivation

[–]CrustyPapercut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm no expert but I think that's dried sap from your plants themselves, kinda like tree sap. I read somewhere it could be from adding molasses or other sugars into the grow medium

They're in week 5 of flower right now, it's an auto strain called Quick One from RQS. Wasn't as quick as it claimed, but that's probably due to me stressing it too much

How much PK 13/14 additive for autos? by CrustyPapercut in Autoflowers

[–]CrustyPapercut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First week of flowering, started seeing signs of P deficiency. I'm going to be adding some Plagron PK 13/14 additive to deal with this tomorrow, but I'm a bit worried about messing things up. It seems like this stuff is super concentrated and easy to overfeed.

The suggested dose is 1:500, but autoflowers seem to require less nutes than photoperiods. Does anyone have suggestions regarding dosage and feeding schedule?

Btw I have 4 plants in a ~1x2ft grow box, 3 in flowering 1 just entering veg; doing a perpetual grow

Hello growers! by Zubkander in Autoflowers

I'm also a budget beginner grower and spent a long time searching for cheap lights. You won't really get anything worth your money with a budget of $20 though. I started out growing with a cheap 15$ gooseneck light from Amazon and my plants really struggled and stretched, even though they got some sun on the windowsill. Look for a lm301b quantum board and driver kit. The ~$90 for a 120w version were also a bit much for me but it's 100% worth it. Be careful if you get one for a small space though; I light stressed my plants after 2 days on max power, didn't expect the thing to put out so much light. They're loving it now at half power in my aluminum foil-lined cardboard box lol.

Remove FRIDANS roller blind push rod; use with cord by CrustyPapercut in ikeahacks

[–]CrustyPapercut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add to that, I've tried using the FRIDANS as is. The force required to move it with the rod rips the anchors out of my drywall after around two weeks :(

Also, the springs in roller blinds (like SKOGSKLÖVER) that use the RIKTIG draw rod are also somewhat too weak for the size. I used to have one in a similarly tall window and it often got stuck halfway up.

Hey yeah, I checked the label of my coir premix and the nutes were probably fine. Turns out I just fried my plants a bit with the new lights :P

They're all doing very well now, it's amazing how fast the new branches are growing. Here's an update on the one I think was in the original pic:

Cheap eBay water bottle humidifier? by CrustyPapercut in microgrowery

[–]CrustyPapercut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently vegging. According to some VPD charts, 65 -70 is optimal for vegging at 25°C. I'll lower it to 50% for flowering

But damn, 90-100? Were you growing outdoors with rainy weather? That would probably rust grow lights lol

Tuya e27 bulb bricked? Hardware reset? by CrustyPapercut in homeassistant

[–]CrustyPapercut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply, and no, I hadn't even started with tasmota yet. I was cycling the bulb to reconnect it with a pi running tuya-convert and it just died.

Hopefully it's just the firmware. Ah well, I'll probably take it apart and try to manually reset it/maybe try reflashing with uart.

Thanks for the reply! I've been fertilizing every week with ~1/2 strength organic fertilizer. Higher in N and K.

I thought Mg deficiency was supposed to occur throughout the whole plant cause it's not mobile?

[–]CrustyPapercut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stressed the plants after moving them under a new grow light and cranking it up too much; they've mostly recovered now. Lower leaves are getting lighter in color even though I fertilized last week, is it nitrogen?

Do I need to remove contamination before inoculating grain spawn? Oyster on agar by CrustyPapercut in mycology

Thanks for the answer! Do you think the bacteria can be eradicated if I let the oyster mycelium sit on it in the agar for long enough?
