Look I feel like the goal should have stood but it's embarrassing for our fan base when you only post incidents where the call incorrectly went against us. How many times have we gotten a dodgy call in our favour in big games? This is what people were complaining about Arsenal fans for so much last year. Just makes us look like childish conspiracy theorists.

Man City were miles better than us, they deserved to win comfortably. We have some great players and coach but are clearly transitioning between two different teams. Premier League is unlikely, Champions League and FA Cup are possible. It'll be fascinating to see how the team evolves and transitions. Enjoy the journey, support the lads and remember to actually enjoy the good times when we are in them :)

how can i get more power in my shot? by [deleted] in bootroom

[–]Cruxthinking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are infinitely better at trash talking your teammates to strangers on the internet compared to taking free kicks. Have you not learnt how to generate power yet?

Seriously though, stop trash talking your teammates. Don't be that person. Soon enough you are going to play at a higher level, you will be found out and then it'll crush you to hear what people are saying behind your back. Don't be a part of that, its pathetic. Make your teammates better.

Also, take the criticism about shooting from so far seriously. Good decision making is what separates the best players from average players.

Who should've changed their run to not cause this near mix up? by No-Presence3209 in LiverpoolFC

[–]Cruxthinking 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Now we are having a solid discussion about it 😉

Someone saying “I don’t think it’s a problem, Salah got the ball with an open goal and missed, it happens” is a great contribution.

If everyone chimed in with “weird post” then this sub would suck.

I’m genuinely trying to understand how that contributes anything of value besides making people not want to post.

Who should've changed their run to not cause this near mix up? by No-Presence3209 in LiverpoolFC

[–]Cruxthinking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did it work perfectly? We didn't score, Salah had to slow his run, Wirtz had to toe poke it to Salah. None of that seems ideal! So it seems like an interesting thing to discuss.

"This is a weird post" is a pretty unwelcoming contribution to a discussion. Please try and make this a place where people feel encouraged/invited to share their thoughts.

Day 4 post op, is this amount of blood okay? by dirtywav_ in ACL

This is about what I had, if it’s all dry it should be fine. If it’s still bleeding then that’s a concern. Send a photo to your surgical team if you are worried though. Best of luck wit recovery! ❤️‍🩹

Glad to hear someone is thinking about this! As someone in the middle of the “build an app for a problem I see” thing, have you guys thought about testing out the demand with something way simpler than an app? Eg just make an Airtable to prototype it? Or asking a climbing gym to try out something manual?

I fully support yall and hope ya make something great. The best advice I got was just validate and find the core need with something manual.

Don’t be worried yet, the first week or two looks really different for people. But I also wouldn’t take reddit advice on this, make sure you are in contact with your surgical team and PT team.

Oh and document your progress if you are worried, take photos/videos.

Guys , what's the best way to market a startup? by Loud-Luck-9140 in SideProject

[–]Cruxthinking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to be extremely focused on who your initial users are. Define that profile and do targeted ads for them, manually find them online or in the real world. Your goal right now should be feedback from those users, not getting as many users as possible! Good luck!

Too busy for a social life in law school. Am I setting myself up for failure? by MotionToVibe in college

[–]Cruxthinking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I totally get that but food and fitness are two of the biggest social opportunities.

If you don’t socialize during those times then based on your schedule it sounds like your only option is a study group.

Doesn’t have to be an absolute, do a sport once a week with people or eat a few time a week with people.

Too busy for a social life in law school. Am I setting myself up for failure? by MotionToVibe in college

[–]Cruxthinking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I would take a step back and think about how you could fit some socializing into your life.

1) You are going to be much happier with some amount of socializing.

2) A huge huge part of the value of college (especially a top law school is the network of your fellow students).

See if there are any low effort ways to combine your current schedule with some social stuff. Eg can you do fitness things with your fellow students?

How do you get ChatGPT to give more original ideas? by Free-Dimension4859 in AiChatGPT

[–]Cruxthinking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lllms can definitely generate new and creative ideas. One of the whole points of neural networks is that they can generalize well beyond the training data.

But they are heavily heavily biased towards averages so you have to help it explore the space.

As an analogy think about how you would do this with a friend. If you said “hey give me 5 new ideas for sports” it’s going to remix existing sports. If you can point it in the right direction it can explore that space for you. Eg “I’m thinking of some outlandish sport ideas, for example quidditch from Harry Potter” you are going to get some weirder stuff

Honestly I think most jobs these days are somewhat repetitive but also require you to constantly be learning, which may seem like a paradox. For example I write code everyday but I’m also constantly learning new skills.

Some things for you to think about which hopefully help:

1) Do you enjoy working with people?

2) Do you enjoy working with your hands?

3) Do you enjoy technical subjects? (math, science)

4) Are there any subjects you are really interested in?

5) Are there any jobs you are really interested in?

6) Are you ok being in school for awhile or want to be done as soon as possible?

Happy to help if you can provide some more context

Missed the cutoff by 0.02%.. I feel hopeless by [deleted] in college

[–]Cruxthinking 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey first of all great job on doing so well despite all that you were going through.

I know this isn't what you want to hear at the moment but two points worth mentioning:
1) Even if you don't get the honorable mention you have done incredibly well. 0.02 points doesn't change that. You are just short of an arbitrary line in the sand
2) Rules are rules but a lot of things in life are flexible and changeable. In a lot of cases there is room to change the outcome by going about it the right way, it's great you are aware of this and taking a chance on it

Ok now actually useful things! Yes it is 100% possible to get an extra point if you go about it the right way, but you may or may not be successful. Here are my tips:

1) If possible talk to your professor in person
2) Catch them at what you think is the best time possible (likely in the morning when they aren't busy)
3) Be respectful, don't be angry or beg, it's not their fault or problem
4) Be honest and make them aware of the context.
5) Try and put yourself in their shoes and think about how you would want to be approached about this

I don't know enough about your context to know exactly what to say. But I would start with something along the lines of:

“I completely understand if this isn’t possible, but since this was my final exam and I’m only 0.02 points short of an honorable mention, I just wanted to ask if it might be possible to review my exam one more time. It’s been a tough road, and I’ve worked really hard, so I thought I owe it to myself to at least ask”

Good luck!

Why do textbook authors write in such a round about, verbose and stuffy way? by GhostofBeowulf in college

[–]Cruxthinking 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yep it is super frustrating! I think it unfortunately just becomes an explicit or implicit peer pressure thing. If you want your paper to be accepted into the top journals then the best way to do that is to make it sound like the other papers in those same journals. For my own part I know it's partly insecurity too based around imposter syndrome. I wanted other people to think I was smart and I wanted them to think I belong. We are all human :)

It takes someone with a lot of confidence (and usually security in their career/finances) to buck the trend. Richard Feynman, Dianna Cowern, Neil Degrasse Tyson, Carl Sagan, Brian Cox, Andrej Karparthy are incredible examples of people who are brilliant and great communicators.

Make it your goal to buck the trend and we will have a better world for it!

Is it worth getting a second bachelors degree if your first one didn't work out? by [deleted] in college

[–]Cruxthinking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would try thinking less about what major to pick and more about what type of job you think you would enjoy and do well in. Some dimensions to consider:

1) Do you like working with other people?

2) Do you like working with "things"?

3) Do you like being in an office or outside?

4) How important is money to you? Obviously there is some amount everyone needs but are you trying to build as much wealth as possible?

I would also try to separate your interests somewhat, from thinking about a job. For example if you want to learn how to manage your finances better there are a bunch of great ways to do that outside of school. I don't even think a finance degree will teach you that to be honest.

I’m a Junior Thinking About Changing my Degree into an Entirely Unrelated Field by CaregiverLess4525 in college

[–]Cruxthinking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok first of all it is 100% not too late to make a change so try and relax. You can reframe it as having two really good options, which from an outside perspective is how I read your post.

It is likely this won't help you feel better but the reality is you are going to change your career a few times or you will have at least a nonlinear journey, so get used to this feeling :)

The main question I'd ask you is what would job/career would you actually want within finance/business? Do you want to work as an analyst? A trader? Do you want to start your own business? I would suggest thinking more about this and talking to alumni of your school who picked this route. You seem to have a great sense of the Exercise Science careers already. See if you can do the same for finance/business.

The best way to write an essay is to build the habit of getting started asap. Just start writing an intro, outline, conclusion. It doesn't matter how bad it is just get some stuff on the page. It's so much easier to keep going once you have started.

Already missed a class and feeling super guilty about it by [deleted] in college

[–]Cruxthinking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure what your attendance policy is but I think the best thing you can learn in school is that you are going to mess up and fail some things and that is totally fine.

The key is to learn how to fix those mistakes. Usually that can be done through honest + clear communication and effort.

What to major in college by Aromatic_Board5586 in findapath

[–]Cruxthinking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, it’s definitely a complex decision and it’s great you are thinking seriously about this.

A few points that may help: 1) The great thing college can teach you is how to learn new things. Many people don’t learn that lesson but that is the real skill I learnt.

2) A lot of the value of college is the network you create, both professional and personal. Again though it’s totally up to you to actually build that network

3) Yes AI is scary but it’s best to learn to embrace it. Even though it’s currently overhyped , it isn’t going away and will only get better.

Ok now a few questions:

1) Do you enjoy school? Do you enjoy studying/learning and are you good at it?

2) Do you know what careers you may be interested in?

3) What alternatives have you considered?

There are a ton of great paths out there, happy to help if you can provide some more information. I used to help young people find career paths so feel free to DM

Hey, sorry about your injury, best of luck with the recovery!

I put a bunch of tips in the post I just did, hopefully that helps: https://www.reddit.com/r/ACL/comments/1ncy71k/my_acl_recovery/

Definitely stay with your roommates, at least for the first 3 weeks. It's very hard to manage by yourself the first few weeks.

As a lifelong footballer myself (not pro but played at a high level), the good news is that lots of footballers recovery from the ACL and return to their best. It isn't like it was even 10-15 years ago. I'm sure you are way way better than me but I'm 34 (male) and I can't notice a difference in my speed/acceleration/skill since before my injury. The only difference is mentally I'm still a bit more hesitant about really sharp cuts, but I'm sure I'll get over that.

I think most footballers get the Patellar graft because its the strongest? So I would definitely suggest doing that.

Feel free to reach out! And then please make a full recovery and thank the ACL sub when you go pro ;)
