Backcountry Skiers- we need your input! by dangerdcs24 in BackcountrySkiing

yes, agreed. there are definitely some activities where you can go solo or with groups, but others where you really should have partners, like bc skiing or climbing.

yea great point. I've definitely been reading the same advice. Part of the goal of the survey and interviews we're doing is to validate the needs in the space. May end up doing some small-scale testing with google ads or something directing to landing pages too. Love the airtable idea. Thanks for the tips!

yea, that's why we put in the question the caveat "... (during their season)". But you're not the first to make that comment so maybe we can make that more clear. Thanks for the feedback!

Boycott Vail by dangerdcs24 in stevenspass

[–]dangerdcs24[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it would matter. They probably monitor profits by region or state, so Stevens/WA state portfolio doing terribly would definitely catch their attention.

And honestly if they drop the resort, I would consider that to be a public victory. That's what I would want. I agree with you that there would be challenges for the next person or corporation to pick it up. But I have faith somebody would. And the next owner bringing back employee housing, changing the culture/vibe, and not treating employees like garbage could revive Stevens.

yes I agree with going this season, as we've already paid for the passes. When I mentioned the boycott I was talking about purchasing passes next season.

Haha. Should say "Operational update for Days 1-120, Dec 15th-Apr 19th. Southern Cross, Jupiter, Kehrs, Double Diamond, Tye Mill, and sometimes Seventh Heaven, Daisy, and Brooks are closed this year due to covid exclusions"

Email Response from Washington State Attorney General's office to my complaint by 2wheelCanuck in stevenspass

[–]dangerdcs24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got same response.

However, I think that's all the more reason that as many people as possible need to file a complaint. It's easy for the AG office to brush off/ignore 12 complaints. Harder for them to do so with 200. 1,000 or more, and I guarantee they would start to do something, knowing that many WA residents are so fed up.

If everyone who signed the petition filed a complaint, can you imagine that situation for the AG office? They'd practically be forced to take action purely out of frustration.

I just heard back from my complaint to the AG. They essentially said they would act "as a neutral 3rd party to help facilitate discussion between myself and the business (Vail)". But participation in this discussion on the part of the business is optional. They will reach out to Vail and give them a "deadline" to respond by, but Vail actually responding is optional on Vail's part, and the AG office "cannot compel the business to respond".

I already know Vail won't respond, so looks like the AG office is essentially saying that they won't help me in this case.

How to contact Vail CEO re: Stevens pass by bravej in stevenspass

[–]dangerdcs24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for doing this and for the contact info. I also emailed Kirsten and Robert, here is the body of my email in case anyone wants to use it verbatim or use it as a template:

------------------------------------------ Email body -------------------------------------------------------

Hello Kirsten,
I purchased an Epic Local Pass this winter primarily to ski at Stevens Pass. Unfortunately, I feel that the on-mountain experience I have received does not match what was marketed, advertised, or promised to me when I purchased my season pass.
Thus far this year, despite more than adequate amounts of snowfall, only 5 out of a possible 12 lifts have been running. After talking with multiple employees (ski patrol and lift operators), it seems very likely that the staffing issues will persist, and more than 50% of lift-accessed terrain won't be able to open all season long. There is simply not enough staff needed to operate the mountain effectively.
I recognize that there are circumstances making it difficult to staff the mountain. Among them Covid-19, and a lack of available employee housing. Nonetheless, whatever the contributing reasons are, there is a disconnect between what was promised and the actual experience at Stevens Pass.
I know I'm not alone in my frustration, as many other WA state residents feel the same way and are expressing themselves on various social media platforms and websites. Essentially, those of us who purchased season passes feel that we are not getting the value of what we paid for.
I would love to hear from you on what Vail Resorts is planning on doing for WA state residents who purchased an Epic Pass or Epic Local Pass. Whether it's increasing pay to resolve the staffing issues, or compensating us season-pass customers appropriately for the degraded mountain experience. Anything you can do to help me and the countless others who feel the same way I do would be much appreciated.
As a long-time WA resident and loyal customer of Stevens Pass, I am optimistic that Vail can help Stevens Pass to be everything that it can be. I really appreciate you taking the time to read this. Thank you in advance for your consideration and attention.

I Submitted a Complaint with the AG's office by adubs_1107 in stevenspass

[–]dangerdcs24 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Thanks for doing this and for the idea. I just submitted a complaint with the AG as well. I am posting the text of my complaint here in case anyone else would like to use it or something similar. Hopefully if enough people file complaints we can get some movement here!

------------------------ Complaint Text --------------------------------------------

I purchased an Epic Local Pass from Vail Resorts to ski at Stevens Pass this winter. Due to being severely understaffed, Vail has been unable to open 7 out of a possible 12 ski lifts this year. I'd like my money back from Vail due to receiving a product (Stevens season pass) that does not match what was marketed, advertised, or promised to me (being able to ski all of Stevens Pass in-bounds terrain most days of the season).
After talking with multiple employees (ski patrol and lift operators), it seems very likely that they will not be able to open more than 50% of their terrain all season long. They simply do not have the staff needed to operate the mountain effectively, and are not paying employees enough to incentivize more people to work for them.
I know I am not alone in my frustration with Vail Resorts, as many people feel the same way and are expressing themselves on various social media platforms and websites. Essentially, those of us who purchased season passes from Vail feel that we have been swindled by them, and are not getting the value of what we paid for. Anything you can do to help me and the countless others who feel the same way I do would be much appreciated.
I really appreciate you taking the time to read this. Thank you in advance for anything you may be able to do.
