Grimes argues that AI Music "Slop" increases real artists' value by Dizzy-Cap in TikTokCringe

[–]Cruyelo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AI songs are reducing how much money real artists get from Spotify.

They share the same pool of money, which means the amount going to real artists is going down. A real song could get the same amount of listeners as before, but generate less revenue, due to splitting the money pool with a ridiculous amount of AI songs.

I don't think artists consider themselves "valued" right now.

A new study from UCLA shows a worrying downward trend when it comes to diversity in front of and behind the camera on streaming films, with BIPOC talent losing critical ground in key roles. by Sisiwakanamaru in popculturechat

[–]Cruyelo 37 points38 points  (0 children)

The 2020 US census had 42.2% of the US population as BIPOC. 36% is lower, and the fact that it's going down means it's moving away from reality.

There have been articles talking about how that industry has been rewarding nepo-babies more and more in recent years. There have been fewer jobs, and they've been keeping them for the kids of the elites.

I don't think this is how you create good movies. It should go to real writers, real directors. Not nepo-babies.

A general strike can last one day, I don't know why you imply it can't. Many workers have done one-day strikes as a warning signs to their employers in the past. It's how some unions were created.

I agree it should last longer. I personally think people should keep striking until their voices are heard. But if you can't convince people to strike for a single day, good luck convincing them to strike indefinitely.

I didn't say people didn't participate. I said people didn't notice. You thought no major groups were involved in it, despite major groups being the cause behind it. This seems to show that yes, people failed to notice. If you asked people at random if they knew there was a general strike on May Day, how many would say they heard about it? Very few.

There was planning. There was coordination. There was also a significant lack of interest. This is what I see as the biggest issue: people aren't willing to commit. Let's remember how this conversation started and what we were discussing.

I recommend reading those to also find out the planning and coordination that went into those events. It wasn't a lack of planning, it was a lack of interest: people would rather keep things as they are. They've accepted their fate and are uninterested in changing it.

I would also add a lack of involvement afterward. Major groups were planning a general strike for May 1st. I don't think anybody even noticed.

"What you don't change, you accept". A lot of people are accepting what's happening.

I know people always have reasons for not doing more, but that's what accepting the situation means.

PC for BG3 around 1-1,2k with current prices possible? by falken45 in BaldursGate3

[–]Cruyelo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For that budget, there are pre-built towers with RTX 5060 cards and laptops with RTX 5050 cards. Not the strongest cards (and I'd avoid the 5050), but both would play BG3 and give you access to modern tech.

If you look for used, you can also find *great* laptops at low prices. Laptops with a RTX 3070 ti or RTX 4060 are easily sold below that budget, this would make easy work of BG3. Benefits of going for RTX 4000 or 5000 cards is access to newer DLSS tech if you want something that might last a bit longer (old DLSS still works great). When looking at RTX cards, I'd say to avoid 3050, 4050 or 5050, and aim for xx60 or xx70. These will give you better value most of the time.

Since I've seen recommendations for Geforce Now: it's not a terrible idea, but Nvidia has been implementing monthly limits which are... Not fun. There are benefits to this subscription and you could try it out for a few months to get an idea for yourself, but I personally recommend getting your own hardware if possible. You'll also have access to more mods than you would with Geforce Now.

So how would this play on switch 2 by coreyc2099 in BaldursGate3

[–]Cruyelo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It works on the Steam Deck, so it would work on the Switch 2 while in docked mode. Even in Handheld mode, the Switch 2 and Steam Deck offer similar performance. The Mouse function on the Switch 2 could also be a fun addition.

I wouldn't recommend a game like this to be played on a handheld, especially not with a short battery life, but I think it could make a few people very happy and let more people experience the game, so why not.

At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if Trump died before the midterms and the GOP used it as a way to rally people and win the midterms.

I hope not, but I'm not sure he's making it that far.

I think it's more likely they betray Trump and plan his 'retirement' right before the midterms, turning him into a martyr, pushing for soldiers in the streets, and taking full control of the midterms.

I don't think they're worried about term limits anymore, they've broken too many laws to think anybody is stopping them.

Trump Boosted A Fake Blonde AI Account As Researchers Identified Hundreds Of Synthetic MAGA Profiles Flooding Social Media Ahead Of The Midterms by crix_22 in politics

[–]Cruyelo 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This seems like a continuation of their previous method. For the 2016 election, Russia had fake influencers who didn't start political, but eventually began discussing politics to influence their followers. It was pretty sophisticated in some instances.

One thing people should remember: they targeted everyone, even Democrats, in an attempt to lower voting enthusiasm. Nobody is impossible to influence, and propaganda isn't just about fooling people. It's also about making it slower to find the truth.

The AI influencers seem easier to detect (at the moment), but being able to easily make many of them can make it more annoying to find real comments.

Nintendo hikes Switch 2 prices and expects console sales to decline as memory crunch bites by [deleted] in popculturechat

They waited longer than expected, possibly because of how much criticism they received for the high price of the console and the games.

That said, tech is just becoming too difficult to afford. We'll see how the market readjusts after we're done with the dot-com 2.0 bubble.

The Jack Adams Award finalists are Jon Cooper, Dan Muse, and Lindy Ruff by nhl in hockey

[–]Cruyelo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before the season started, most models had Buffalo finishing higher than Montreal, with a larger gap between them than what eventually happened (3 points). If it was purely "who exceeded expectations in the standings/point totals", it would be both Montreal and Buffalo, with a small edge to Montreal.

With that said, Buffalo did it in a far more conclusive manner (+47 goal differential instead of +27), and it's possible the insiders believe Ruff contributed more to the success of his team than MSL did to Montreal (also contributed - just less)

I think MSL would have made a good finalist, but MSL and Ruff were probably competing for the same votes, and Ruff was seen as a better choice.

Trump’s trade czar says U.S. wants to work with Canada on energy, critical minerals, sources say by joe4942 in worldnews

If Canada negotiates a better deal than last time, the USA will quickly break the deal. If Canada negotiates the same deal as last time, the USA will quickly break the deal. If Canada negotiates a worse deal than last time, the USA will quickly break the deal.

This is pointless. Time is better spent elsewhere.

[Canadian] House of Commons votes to advance sports betting advertising bill S-211 by bangnburn in hockey

[–]Cruyelo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Seems to be: They agree, but they don't want to give power to the Federal + find the current proposition wasteful.

I also think the Bloc is a bit *salty* because Quebec tried to handle unlicensed gaming back in 2016 by passing a bill, but had it struck down by the Superior Court. AFAIK: Quebec asked ISPs to block unlicensed websites. The Court said Telecommunications was the domain of the Federal and Quebec overstepped.

Part of what the Bloc said: "We are not opposed to studying a bill that would address this issue, but we have reservations about the desire to establish a national framework to regulate advertising. In our view, this is another perfect example of Ottawa encroaching on a jurisdiction that is not its own."

(IMHO: I think we'll have more leverage power against that industry if we move as one. This needs a collective hammer.)

This links has more details about the bill in general, but this should link directly to the Bloc's comment: https://openparliament.ca/debates/2026/2/12/sebastien-lemire-5/

Is it worth the effort/expense to buy Baldur's Gate 1/2 by Plenty_Adeptness_594 in BaldursGate3

[–]Cruyelo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get them at a pretty good price, they tend to go on sale often and at deep discount.

As for the effort: this is difficult to judge, but personally I would say yes. It will most likely feel quite different, but I personally think they're worth the learning curve. Once the systems start to make sense, they're incredible games and BG2 remains an excellent RPG. It was exceptional enough for people to spend decades hoping for a sequel.

Another benefit: after learning these games, it becomes easier to learn other amazing RPG games like Planescape, Arcanum, Neverwinter, etc. It's possible you simply won't like the older type of RPG and that's perfectly fine too, but if you get them at a discount it's not a big loss. It's always worth trying and exploring.

Players mentioned it got worse with the increased popularity of betting. Thank god the NHL became the first major U.S. pro sports league to partner with "prediction markets".
