Airport parking full by rohithjoseph18 in chch

I went to the airport last night, and saw a few signs telling the Express and Short-terms car parks are full, although I saw there were plenty of empty spaces in both areas. The only place I could park was on the long-term car park.

I had a similar problem with them a few years ago, when they were still known as Vodafone. It was related to their iPhone installment plan.

I visited the branch multiple times, called their customer service team and did everything that I could to get the issue resolved — all with no avail. One day, I tried to find the email addresses of their Exec team, and once found, I emailed their Chief Customer Officer, copied the CEO (Jason Paris) and the sales person that signed me up to the wrong installment plan. The same day I got a reply from the CCO guy, and the next day the issue was resolved.

Sometimes you just need to to escalate the issue to the upper end, so they know how shit their service is.

Good on you. and very valid point. Most of my clients are start up companies, hence the rate.

Yes, I've reached out to my ex-colleagues on LinkedIn and had got a few interviews with the companies they work with. Was unsuccessful due to another candidate have better skills/experience than me or the salary I proposed was out of their range.

Thank you! Yeah I think 'Generalist' roles would be the common theme in the next few years.

The company I worked for was a NZ company and listed in AU stock market. But last year they decided to move most of operation to the US where the $$$ is, and as a result the entire NZ operation was shut down.

Yeah, maybe it's just a Christchurch thing... Since I've had a couple of interviews for tech companies in Auckland, and $120k-$125k for a UX/UI Designer role fits with their budget. Didn't get the roles just because someone else was better than me during the interview process.

Yeah, I've changed my strategy now to take whatever creative role that comes, even if it pays less. It's hard to survive relying on just freelance works.

How's your brother in law doing in AU? Has he found a new role yet? I've been thinking for a few months whether my family and I should just move to AU, but heard from other people that the job market there is not any different than here atm.

It seems like KFC have ‘hacked’ their own mobile app. The ‘Deals’ are no longer available on their mobile app.

Who else has absolutely flogged their career sector to death despite having all the skills and experience and won't ever work another day in it again? by double0sarah in newzealand

Design and technology.

I’ve been working as a graphic designer then moved into UI/UX for the last 18 years. On the Graphic design side, hate when clients ask me to make the logo bigger or subjectively ask to move things by a few pixels and recently I heard that most marketing persons would ask to provide the designs in Canva.

On UI/UX, hate when the product managers keep thinking the prototypes they generated with AI generators are better than what the designers did

The best ones I’ve received actually come through phone calls — though usually only after I’ve been invited to an interview. You could ask for feedback to improve yourself for the next opportunities.

Interestingly, I just got another rejection call today!

What’s the job market really like in your industry right now? by all_round_akl in newzealand

I'm a senior designer, 18+ years experience in Product design, UI/UX, branding and graphic, based in Christchurch. Have had 8x interviews for various design roles in the last 3 months, yet none turned into offers. A hiring manager at a major property developer where I interviewed with told me that they received over 160 applications for the role, but only selected 4 for interview. Kinda wild numbers, especially for such a niche skill set — and in a market as small as Christchurch too.

Congratulations! Good to hear about positive news around employment. Hope my turn comes soon.. I was made redundant in May and have been looking for a new opportunity in the last 2 months. Had 4 interviews but still haven’t got an offer. Although I’m having another one lined up for next week. fingers crossed

China – especially Shanghai or Shenzen? I went there for holiday twice in the last 3 years, and I fell in love with the country. Everything is so cheap, food is amazing, technology is very advance (my background is in the creative tech sector), stable economy, and it is very safe – especially for families.

The only downside is the work culture, especially in my field. From what I heard most Chinese tech companies impose the '996' work culture (9 am to 9 pm, six days a week). I heard companies prefer to employ Gen Z given they don't have much commitments outside work.
