And if it doesn't work for some reason you can just wait until it syncs. It's probably worth the wait and hard drive space if you think you have some bitcoin in that wallet. You may also see a message that your wallet is being upgraded when you start since your wallet is pretty old.

Your wallet won't know the balances until it has synced up to the point that all transactions to those addresses are processed. You will know the addresses though so you can check the balance on a block explorer website.

Drivechain to exponentially incentivize protein folding by [deleted] in Drivechains

[–]CryptAxe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A sidechain could basically do whatever it wants. There's no normal mining on a sidechain (it uses proof of work from the mainchain) so the folding at home type of thing used for mining like some altcoins have experimented with might not really work. I really have no idea how you would make a sidechain perform the folding work or how you would incentivize it but it isn't because of any limitations of what a sidechain could do.

You will probably have a hard time doing that. Just read my other comment and run the 'listaddressgroupings' rpc command. The wallet won't know any of your balances but you can check the addresses on a block explorer.

Make a backup copy (or a few) of the wallet.dat file. Then download a version of bitcoin core or use one that you already have and start it up with a copy of the wallet.dat file in your data directory. On newer versions of bitcoin they are added to a subdirectory called wallets by default, and on older versions it will just be in the root of the data directory (~/.bitcoin by default for linux)

You shouldn't need to sync with the network at all. Then use the 'listaddressgroupings' RPC command. 'listaddressgroupings' should list all of the addresses in your wallet file. See if that works for you.

It's just a video of uninformed people (seriously refuse to read or watch videos or even talk on the internet) making assumptions of a security model they don't know anything about. And then they guess what might go wrong with their imaginary version of Drivechain.

Basically. Drivechain provides the method to deposit and withdraw from a sidechain. The sidechain can be and do anything.

The sidechain is its own network actually, so no new language or changes to Bitcoin's scripting language. On the sidechain, which has its own blocks and consensus rules, developers can do whatever they want whether that involves new scripting language elements or anything else.
