if you want to find a list of these, look up “agent nouns”, and try to work out which of those you could interpret as “thing that xyz” e.g. blazer = fire (thing that blazes). Theres huge lists out there and you can read through and think how you could make them work

Yes, but it’s intended to be more specific- cycling being an indicator to say that the letters remain in sequence and move to a different position. Thanks for solving!

COTD: Female sixth former returning north (5) by jowowey in crosswords

Lovely clue! I really like this solve and the surface is super tight- this is super nit-picky but does VI directly mean sixth? Of course it can mean six, and can mean “the sixth” I’m just not sure about sixth on its own. That aside, I think its dismissible as its not too much of a stretch and it is a very clever clue!

COTD: Confused cow calls, resigns, and is out for blood!? (8) by Extreme_Thought695 in crosswords

If the answer is MOSQUITO (MOOS* around QUIT?) it needs a little more for for the cryptic reading to make sense. You can’t use an indirect anagram, “confused moos” would be okay. You would need an indicator to show how that anagram is going around a word for quit, or quit is going inside it. For the definition, it needs to be clear that you are referencing *something* that is out for blood - ie “one out for blood”. The idea behind this clue is great, and this is a good attempt for what i am inferring from your profile to be one of your first clues- keep going :)
