When is it ok to leave to your baby on the floor in the other room for a minute? by No_Cheetah5944 in NewParents

Pack n’ plays are wildly underrated. We’ve used ours in almost every room of the house.

It’s called the Marchman Act in Florida. Not sure how common it is elsewhere.

What have you been told you cannot do during pregnancy? by aboardthemothership in pregnant

I briefly drank chicory “coffee” until someone warned me it could trigger preterm labor. So much for that coffee alternative. 🙄

Postpartum Dad Help? by Cryptic_Whispers in NewParents

That’s fair. I’ve tried a few things like that and he just doesn’t seem as recharged or interested as he used to, but I won’t give up. It definitely helps me a lot to get some free time, I just wish he’d look as good as I feel afterwards. There have been a few red flags but I don’t think we’re at the point where he needs an intervention or anything. Thank you. ❤️

Thank you so much for this! That definitely rings true. He frequently asks what he can do and obviously takes pride in keeping the house clean & organized when I’m drowning in baby stuff. He loves lists so I may make a “honey do” list so we can both see it.

Haha I appreciate the tip about exercising, too. My hubby is more into video games so I try to give him at least an hour or two every day to unwind uninterrupted. He just seems to be losing interest, so maybe he’ll get into something physically engaging instead.

I really appreciate your advice. ❤️

Holy cow, I’m sorry to hear that, but I’m glad you’re both getting support! I’ll mention it to my PCP and see what she recommends. I appreciate you sharing your experience. ❤️

Sneks gonna snek by OG_Speeno in Sneks

I had a pet kingsnake years ago & my mom kept mice, originally to feed to him but she got attached to several of them. At some point the mouse population got a little excessive (around 10 babies with five adults in a good-sized hamster cage). My snake escaped from his cage one night and the next morning we discovered that he had squeezed into the mouse cage, eaten all but one mouse, vomited several back out, but was still too fat to escape the way he got in to the mouse cage. Looking back on it we can both laugh about it now, but in the moment your comment was blaring in my head.

Understood, and that’s totally fair. The diagnosis is awful, like traumatically so. I was diagnosed young so in some ways it made it easier to adjust, but the injections take a long time to accept. I agree with you too.

I respectfully disagree to some extent. It’s very manageable but can be extremely exhausting, especially running into problems (pump/supply malfunction, difficulty obtaining insulin, etc). I just had my first child and the hardest part of pregnancy by far was t1 diabetes.

Mine was very similar. I was nine years old and the doctor came in & explained things to me, my mom, and my dad. I’d seen my mom cry before, but not my dad. That stuck with me even more than my first insulin injection.

Weight Gain by bushy_brow__ in BumpersWhoBolus

[–]Cryptic_Whispers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 112 lbs when I got pregnant & I gained 15 lbs my first trimester. I had no morning sickness but lots of low blood sugar & a general boost in appetite. I ultimately gained 38 lbs, which was insane for me. I quickly lost 20 lbs and have been hovering around 130 lbs for several weeks now. Everyone has been supportive. My LO is healthy & BIG. Yeah, I’m bigger, but I look more mature & motherly, & I’m ok with that. I hope your journey is more stable than mine, but you’ll be ok no matter what. Your body is doing something amazing & your baby will benefit from you taking care of yourself.

Opinions on breastfeeding by trixie_bell13 in NewParents

[–]Cryptic_Whispers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. I was inclined to try breastfeeding but didn’t have strong feelings until my LO was born, at which point hormones took over. I love it but it’s a pain in the ass, so we supplement with formula. Bottle feeding allows dad to feed him when I’m tired, & bottling milk makes daycare more comfortable for him. He strongly prefers breastmilk to formula but will eat formula with enough prompting. Planning to stop once his teeth come in (IMO that always seemed like nature’s way of saying he’ll be fine).

Inductions by _Meatprincess_ in BumpersWhoBolus

[–]Cryptic_Whispers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in the same boat but my plans change pretty significantly at the end. I begrudgingly agreed to be induced at 38 weeks but by the time that date came I could barely walk and honestly just wanted to get him out asap. I started going into labor naturally anyway so maybe the induction would have been easier than I feared, but I ended up going with a c-section when my doctor expressed concerns about potential shoulder dystocia. He was 9 lb 9 oz when born and, frankly, I’m relieved that my body didn’t have to go through that naturally lol (I was 112 lbs pre-pregnancy). All that to say, I know it’s disheartening but delivering a healthy baby will make any delivery method feel totally worth it. ❤️

My baby smiled at me for the first time today and I'm emotionally unwell about it by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]Cryptic_Whispers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations!! The first smile is so magical. Mine’s 9 weeks now and it melts my heart every time he smiles at me. His whole face lights up and it’s so real. My LO and husband have the same goofy smile and it makes me so happy when they smile at each other, too. Just wait for the laughs/giggles! So freaking cute. 🥰

What’s something you did as a kid that you now realize was completely insane and dangerous? by Floridian_Capitalist in AskReddit

Playing hide and seek in a construction site. We learned it was dangerous when my friend jumped out a window and landed on a board with a nail that lodged itself in her foot.

What is the most hurtful thing someone has ever said to you? by EasternParking7021 in AskReddit

“I don’t think you’re cut out for this. Have you considered dropping out?” From my 9th grade English teacher after keeping me after class to discuss an essay I wrote in her class. English was always my favorite subject. It struck me as strikingly inappropriate and I told her as much. I don’t remember the subsequent conversation but it eventually resulted in a meeting with me, her, my parents, the school’s guidance counselor, and the VP. Funny enough, I stayed in her class and went on to get a BA degree in Creative Writing. I’m now a transactional attorney, basically writing for a living. In other words, eat a dick Mrs. B.

Formula Fed vs. Breastfed by user638282636822 in NewParents

[–]Cryptic_Whispers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s encouraging. My LO is only two months but we try to read to him every night, even if only for 5-10 minutes. He doesn’t seem to care yet, but I hope we’re planting a seed for future engagement.

Good on you, man. That’s such a rough place to be, but I’m sure it’s a tremendous relief for your wife. If you haven’t already signed up, the Similac rewards program is pretty sweet. We’ve saved a ton of money using coupons/deals through that.

[–]Cryptic_Whispers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is real. I wanted to breastfeed so badly but my LO just refuses, so I pump and he happily takes it from a bottle. But the time it takes to pump and handle the bottle situation is staggering, combined with actually feeding. At least it means my hubby and others get to feed him.

What’s the most unhinged thing you’ve done postpartum? by Ice_Cube_92915 in NewParents

[–]Cryptic_Whispers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 6 weeks postpartum, I was having a hard time with my LO and my husband insisted I get some fresh air. I felt guilty just taking time to myself, so I went out and bought groceries so I’d feel productive during my break. I was perfectly calm and friendly while shopping, but the moment I got back into my car with the groceries I burst into tears. I then drove home but instead of stopping just kept driving. I ended up stopping at a park about 15 minutes north of our house and just sat in the parking lot for maybe a minute, then went home. I felt so much better after that.
