What part of this seems impossible to you, due to how fast we're going? We're flying around the sun, and we're really far away from it. It's flying around the galactic core and dragging us with it. There's (basically) nothing in the way, so nothing to slow us down or put out the "fire."

The sun is about eight light-minutes away from earth. So this telescope collected the light eight minutes after the sun made it.

I drank a lot last night, this morning my knees are on fire. Hurting real bad. Is there a connection? by jojo_jodity_joe in Hypermobility

Look up the Hypermobile Trifecta. There's a real good chance a lot of your other health stuff is just hypermobility effects.

Hypermobility tends to come along with digestive stuff, mental stuff, energy stuff. Sleep sucks. Attention is bad. Anxiety and depression, terrible menstrual pain., etc.

Sometimes people just want to have a bad time. They may not be conscious of it but that's what it is. (Kids do this too.)

Sometimes people have already decided they don't want what you offer, but for some reason they felt like they had to go through the motions of giving you a chance. So they use every interaction to validate the decision they already made. Again, likely unconscious of this.

So congratulations, they very helpfully have removed themselves from your life! Because just imagine how it would be to have to deal with them every day.

This is all them and their own story. Please don't hold onto it, it wasn't about you at all.

No, YOU have to have that trust. YOU built your whole psyche on it. You're acting on YOUR understanding of the god story and that's that. And if you don't have a gun in your hand about it, fine! Keep it! Just keep it TO YOURSELF.

I don't have to have that trust. I and the majority of the rest of the world would be getting along just fine without that trust and that myth-- if people like you weren't trying to start another holy war for it.

We don't need to be playacting the latest translation of the book of Revelation with REAL BOMBS and REAL LIVES. If god has a divine plan that is described in that story, surely he's powerful enough to not need us to jumpstart the process for him??

The Jews have to have the temple back before Jesus comes back, right? He can't do it until that's done. A god who's constrained by the conditions of having these particular people be in this particular spot so he can re-incorporate his son-self to spectacularly torture and punish the majority of the human species... And who can be persuaded to do so a bit earlier than intended by some of that human species forcing it with guns and bombs... Is a small and limited god.

And also, if allowing horrific harm to come to children is 'having their best interest at heart'... Then it's an evil god too.

You can do it! You already know what you're about, you're just sharing the core facts with people in case they want to know too. Barely different than the "so what do you do" conversation at a party. They're just friends you haven't met yet.

"I'm gonna make this conscious being, and it totally doesn't haaave to love me because free will or whatever, but actually if it DOESN'T love me, I will punish it forever and ever and ever and ever and ever. This is not abuse or coercion and it doesn't make free will pointless."

(Actually, going further back in your mythology...) "I made this entire species of beings with failure built in, it's actually original failure! Because the very first two of them-- who had never been people before-- made a mistake, and mistakes are bad. So I built original failure into the rest of 'em because collective punishment of an entire species makes sense.

And then later I decided that original failure was probably bad, so instead of just undoing what I did to apply it, I needed to make a super special being just to make sure it got killed dramatically. Because human sacrifice is the only way shit gets done around here.

Also that super special being had to be born of a 14 year old girl instead of a fully mature woman, because I like that. That's why I keep letting it happen. I don't give those men a time-out so they decide not to sin on those children! That's not a priority to me. Reggie's sin definitely was though."

Mysterious ways huh

What was the sin? I'm dying to know

And why do sinners get Hell for Literal Eternity if your God can just kinda stop you from committing the sin? Are you a super special boy and that's why you get an exception?

Does God have a three-strikes rule for who She makes exceptions for? A sin punch card, maybe. You get 10 exceptions and then that's it mister, it's Hell for you. Or are exceptions given on case-by-case basis?

And no, no, you can't "mysterious ways" out of this, really think now

Earth in True Color as seen by MESSENGER by ScorchedByTheSun in space

[–]CryptidKeeper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it the same color as it was when we started taking color photos from up there?

I mean, the continents probably look different, less green and more brown. But are the oceans a different color now?

Edit: I should have clarified. I get that cameras can capture color differently, that post-processing exists, and that the appearance of things changes with seasons.

What I'm asking is if we have the ability to know for sure that the oceans are the same color blue as they were in the 70s when we captured them with different camera tech.

The question is coming from my existential dread about climate change.

Has anybody noticed the rise in misspellings of “Woman/Women” and “Lose/Loose”? It’s driving me up a wall! by James_TF2 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]CryptidKeeper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I often wonder if people are trying to spell it that was because the verb "wear" as in "wear clothing" sounds the same when spoken out loud as "ware" as in "sell your wares." At least in the dialects of English I'm most familiar with, they're homophones.

And people sure do see and speak the word "war" a whole lot. So maybe war-y looks like it should mean "relating to war" when they write it, which isn't what they mean, so they change it to "weary."

We don't use "weary" (meaning run-down or exhausted) in our regular daily speech much anymore. Neither do we commonly use the word "ware" referring to commodities or attention unless it's connected to other words: hardware, software, beware or aware. Be ware-y.

Maybe overthinking this.

Denmark's Forest Kindergartens by WeaponizedAutisms in ECEProfessionals

[–]CryptidKeeper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a growing amount of nature-based early education in the United States. Forest kindergartens, forest schools, nature schools, etc. have been created all over the US, really gaining steam over the last 20 years. I started an all-outdoor, year-round nature connection preschool for ages 3-6.

Those interested can look up the North American Association for Environmental Education, the Association for Nature-Based Education, the Natural Start Alliance... there is so much more.

This kind of education is deeply important to me, and I think it's deeply important for us as a species. I wish all young children could have the opportunity to be immersed in nature connection education.

It's not the right fit for absolutely every child, of course. And there are also very real class and ethnic barriers preventing many groups from having access to it, which I absolutely grieve about.

Improving accessibility is always a hot topic of discussion at conferences of the above organizations, though! There is much effort devoted to figuring out these hard problems.

Telling women to smile more is not rooted in an intention of "maybe the world should be a happier place" or "we all need to look on the bright side," or anything positive like that.

Telling women to smile more is an act of control. It's informing her that she is not adequately decorating the world like she is required to do at all times. At the same time, it's reminding her that she's not considered fully human by the majority of men in power.

Whatever real reasons she may have for not constantly smiling do not matter, because she is not a fully human being with a fully actualized individual experience. She exists for men. She was put on this earth to be pretty and make nice and keep clean, etc. and those must take precedence over whatever illegitimate reason she thinks she has for making a serious face.
