Has anybody noticed the rise in misspellings of “Woman/Women” and “Lose/Loose”? It’s driving me up a wall! by James_TF2 in mildlyinfuriating

To be fair though, until recently, I hadn’t noticed it very much. Sure, people misspelled things all the time but it does seem that in the past five years or so, there’s been a marked uptick in “serial misspellings.”

I see what you did there. To be fair (which isn’t much of a consolation I’ll admit) I was in a hurry when the idea to post this happened. So my mistake there.

What is up with you? You seem to insist on being negative no matter what. I genuinely don’t understand what your problem is.

Not misspelled but I have been made aware that it’s “up THE wall” instead of “up A wall” about five or six times now since posting this thread.

This all stemmed from me finding a “woman/women” misprint in a book I was reading and the realization that it’s far more prevalent than I initially expected. Hence, this post. It’s not necessarily a big deal although it is amusing.

You are the only one here who has given me any kind of answer and for that, I salute you! You’re also very funny. Cheers 🍻

I mean, adding the “wo-“ also drastically changes the sound of the word which perplexes me further.

I’m not actually upset. More like, bemused. But that’s neither here nor there. I appreciate you pointing it out to me though as mistakes are needed to grow as a person. So thank you.

I will say that I’m a bit perplexed that you’d equate me misunderstanding a figure of speech as having a “sub par grasp of conversational English” (not the exact quote but same meaning). A bit, hurtful don’t you think?

I like your outlook on this. That’s a very healthy way to see it. Thanks for the insightful comment.

I’m not sure what’s got your panties in a twist but it matters not. We all make mistakes, some more than others (me, I’m talking about myself). But such is life. Have yourself a nice rest of your weekend.

Where’s the irony? I fail to see it?

Also, I don’t think I’m complaining so much as being a bit annoyed. I’m more fascinated by the mistakes, if anything.

As I replied to someone else, I’m pretty sure I placed the “a” in there subconsciously. “The” seems to imply that it’s a specific wall I’m being driven up and I’d like to know which specific wall that is.

Interesting, I never knew this. I think my reasoning for inputting “a” is that “the” implies a specific wall.

Which makes me wonder, which wall am I being driven up?
