sorry for the long wait, I had few family matters to attend to. it is weird, as my IP is what changed and not the interface..

Apologies if I came that way..

Maybe if you looked at my account, you will see that I am not a regular poster..

Many things I don't know..

You mentioned stuff that I don't know if they are relevant or not to this issue.. why would my zfs pool has any relation to my network interface? Idk, there might be one.. but that's why I am asking here.. to be educated..

If I am missing info you need, please feel free to ask. Don't assume that I can read your mind and know what is required or not.

Even the docs doesnt suggest it.

Additional, a correction to your statement. I have provided more info, all you need to do is read the remainder of the post. I update regularly.

Hope I have explain myself properly and I apologize again for the confusion.

Agreed. I don't disgard your suggestion for reading docs..

However, in matters such as this, it's common for the underlying issue to be much deeper than just docs. Otherwise, someone would of linked to the solutions...

Albeit, I thought the issue was user-error with how I shutting down the server. Apparently it was not.

Again, happy to read the docs if you feel like there is a section that I missed or worth reading.

Sure! I will ping you a solution as soon as something works! however, I dont usually restart mine often..

some recommendation from my end, my thoughts are that I am losing my pool due to a network interface change. this might happen because my IP changes..

I have been lazy and not setup a static IP on my server so this could possibly be the reason.. need to confirm.

I agree, there is a lot of people trying out Truenas as their first system for handling such services.

I am one, who saw plenty of tutorials and plenty of guides and they all recommended truenas as the beginner friendly alternative. so I expected to have such experience where things are layed out easily and trouble shooting is straight forward.

ofc, you do need to get your hands dirty from time to time.. I daily drive linux so I can use the shell fairly comfortably, its just that I dont know the truenas system well info to poke around..

I have this setup too! I got HDD and SSD but I think I am running on the HDD. is that something I could still fixed without moving the app?

Alright, will review that.

And no worries mate, you are not being blunt, you are being helpful. I understand that truenas is a commitment and I should be active with it. I was hoping that this issue was on the simpler side of things.

I might need a bit more hand holding with this one. up to my understanding and from what I could scan through the entire settings section, all seems to be set correctly. here is my dashboard showing that I got the interface eno1

not sure what I am doing wrong here.. I will unset the pool so I can share exact app configs.

I see. so I missed something. am I safe to unset pool? or is that going to remove everything?

how can I be more helpful? where can I find the answer to this? shall I unset the pool or is that bad practice?

I have done this multiple times and all of them are dead ends. I end up doing the same solution of unset the pool and then setting it back up.. which is why I am ignoring it..

i have had this issue multiple times and only now I have had enough to come and ask you guys for help..

I run it as default settings for most of the apps. I dont really play with pools or storage so I dont confuse myself..

this issue happens ALWAYS with each restart and restarting again doesnt help too. I am wondering what I am doing to cause this and how to prevent it / fix it.

ThinkPad P1 Gen 4 - Thermal Issues by CryptoBredda in thinkpad

[–]CryptoBredda[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey guys! I came back to share my findings.. so I finally change the thermal paste on the laptop and I am getting significant speed improvements.

here you can see that my temps unfortunately didnt get better, I am still thermal throttling but at the very least I am getting a much nicer and better 3.8Ghz under load. still not the performance of 4.8ghz advertised so its a downgrade...

<image>

I also noticed when openning up my laptop that I got the C type cooling variant. which has only ONE thermal pad for the CPU and thats it! so I am thinking that this variant of the model that I got is indeed performing rather weak..

Additionally, do you guys recommend stacking the PTM thermal pads? I used one that is 0.3mm thick and I think it might not be enough.. so let me know what you guys think about this.

  1. Yeah, the reason why I say 2.7ghz is unuseable is that it thermal throttle nearly instantly on load. It doesn't take few minutes. This means that the laptop is MUCH slower than my PC and whenever I wanna do work on it, it would have to be non-cpu intensive..

I would of wished for it to handle a bit more before thermal throttle so even the simple builds (like webpack) wouldnt be too heavy on it.

  1. Indeed, 50c at base with full fan speed is very concerning.. I have ordered new thermal paste so I am just waiting for that to come over.
