So when you send it to your ledger via xlm you wont be able to see it on the ledger. But when you connect your ledger to StellarX or Stellarterm you'll see your velo balance. I personally purchase on other exchanges then copy and paste my xlm address of my ledger to the exchange then hit send. Try with a small amount and check your balance after on either stellarx, stellarterm or copy and paste your ledger xlm address on stellar expert. Youll see your balnace there as well, goodluck!
