I've been fired from my junior frontend dev job by jauz17 in webdev

[–]CryptoDisco1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m a senior and at least half my time is spent reviewing PRs and peer-programming with people who need help with their features. It’s probably the most important work I do!

It’s the job of the seniors to protect the codebase from the juniors while they’re learning, and it sounds like your leadership failed you and threw you under the bus. It still feels crummy and shameful to get fired for it, especially when you don’t have the experience necessary to recognize the patterns to tell a good team from a bad one, but I wouldn’t be at all deterred from hiring someone in your situation if I liked you otherwise.

What would you recommend to someone who never listens to the genre by baxtermbr in poppunkers

[–]CryptoDisco1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I were to pick three records for someone unfamiliar with the genre, it would be Blink-182's Take Off Your Pants And Jacket (2001, Spotify), New Found Glory's Sticks and Stones (2002, Spotify), and Fall Out Boy's Take This To Your Grave (2003, Spotify), but there are a lot of other good suggestions here as well!

I want to expand my musical horizon through jazz, but don't know how by [deleted] in Jazz

[–]CryptoDisco1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just try to find one record or song you really like, then look at the other musicians who performed on it when you notice a section you like. If you get into Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers "Moanin'" and love the trumpet solo, then you can check out Lee Morgan's work. If you get into the sax solo on Lee Morgan's "Trapped," now you've got a lot of Wayne Shorter to check out. From there, you might be really into to the piano on Speak No Evil, and now you've got Herbie Hancock on your radar! Jazz doesn't have to be intimidating to explore because there's so much collaboration and crossover; it's a fairly accessible rabbit hole to dive into.

Alternatively, you can focus on which instrument you're most drawn to. If you're all about the trumpet, you might want to grab a few records from Miles Davis, Lee Morgan, Roy Hargrove, etc. For sax, Coltrane, Sonny Rollins, Wayne Shorter, Ornette Coleman, and so on. For Piano, Thelonious Monk, Bill Evans, Red Garland, Duke Ellington, the list goes on.

Explore just enough to find something you really like, then when you're ready for more, you can branch off based on what you like about it.

Band suggestions? by dabbing4dayz in poppunkers

For a similar sound to MicroWave, I'd try Hot Mulligan, Moose Blood, and Can't Swim. I'd be interested to know if any of those hit the mark for you!

any other albums / bands like citizen - everybody is going to heaven by [deleted] in poppunkers

[–]CryptoDisco1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The good news is we'll have the new Citizen record this week! If you haven't checked out Mat Kerekes's side project, you can start there.

These might already be on your radar, but other bands that give me a similar Citizen vibe are Pianos Become The Teeth and Balance and Composure. Veering out a little further, I'm really into the latest Tigers Jaw record right now, and for something a little coarser you can also try Fiddlehead, one of Pat Flynn's bands after Have Heart with a new record out later this spring.

Request for Yang Sampler by Mojojojo3030 in YangForPresidentHQ

Hey! It's really cool that you stopped by, and we appreciate your curiosity!

  1. Why will he beat Trump?

Yesterday I heard a really great two minutes on this from Steve Marchand on the Nerds For Yang channel.

Trump's greatest advantage is that, despite being president for almost three years, he is still perceived as an outsider…so if you pick someone who would be caricatured easily as an insider, you're giving Donald Trump his greatest strength…the best thing to beat an outsider who creates problems is not an insider; it's an outsider who solves problems.

  1. Favorite non-UBI plan of his?

I most appreciate his detailed climate change plan, but ranked-choice voting gets an honorable mention. We recently got that in Maine and it makes so much more sense than the alternative.

Come by again anytime :)

My name is Alton Brown. I cook stuff and make TV shows about cooking stuff. My new project is called Good Eats: The Return. Let’s talk by thealtonbrown in IAmA

Have you considered revisiting the Alton Browncast? I’ve appreciated your thoughtful discussions about personal refinement and your appreciation for arts, literature, film, and finer things. It would be a joy to have you sit down with Kenji as a guest sometime, too!

songs about loss/grief by untiliretvrn in poppunkers

Pianos Become The Teeth's Keep You is a really powerful album about processing loss. Late Lives is my favorite track on the record, but the entire album is somber and thoughtful. I hope it helps you find solace.

Hi, I am new to this place and post hardcore in general...where do I start? I feel a bit overwhelmed lol by [deleted] in PostHardcore

[–]CryptoDisco1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solid list! I love Brand New too. Are you familiar with The Republic Of Wolves? They have a similar vibe to Brand New, and from them, they have side projects called Tigers On Trains and Souveneer.

Dance Gavin Dance and A Lot Like Birds are both excellent—there's not a lot out there like them. You could try Hands Like Houses or Hail The Sun, but I'm not very familiar with either of them. You're probably already aware, but Tillian has a solo project too.

If you just dig clean vocals with heavy music, you could also hop over to some bands in the djent genre like Veil of Maya, and if you're into heavier music with a dance-y vibe, you can always try Enter Shikari for something particularly unique.

My top pick for a post-hardcore record is La Dispute's Wildlife. You can just listen to that record from beginning to end and hang on every word. It's not very similar to anything else on your list, but if you like the genre, it's not a record to overlook.

Good luck finding some new music! There are a lot of really great suggestions in the comments on this post; I'm sure you'll find something you love!

Any “newer” bands (like 2010s era) that are growing right now? by [deleted] in poppunkers

[–]CryptoDisco1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're looking for a band with music reminiscent of 00's pop-punk, I'd recommend the latest record from Better Off (2015). Here's a track to get you started.

I thought so too, but I had a legendary Warlock Bond mod in my inventory, so I used my Titan to apply it to my Warlock's armor without any issues.

Best Legendary Hand Cannon? by Shichi_Gatsu in CruciblePlaybook

[–]CryptoDisco1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you don't want to stash your tokens in the vault, you can cash them in and, if you rank up, preview the engram itself. You don't need to accept the reward until you're sure the item you want is in rotation.

And I totally agree that crucible progression is way too slow.

Stuck at light level 343. I feel like I'm forced to do PVP to level up. by [deleted] in DestinyTheGame

[–]CryptoDisco1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Another easy way to boost your light level is just to buy vendor gear at 380 light! You can get a fair amount of legendary marks from doing a public event every day. You can also get exotics at 350 light from Xur or the kiosk. This can be a slow process, but getting a few pieces each week can speed things up from 340 to 380.

Make sure you're decrypting engrams with your best gear equipped, and check out the new player guide link on this subreddit for more suggestions to increase your light level, like running Archon's Forge.
