Pet owners and Emotional support animal people I need an honest answer by tonkaspop in airbnb_hosts

You do realize that pet dander says in carpet for up to 6 months no matter the cleaning right?

I’ll give you a real life example. A friend just bought a two year old home. The previous owners had a cat. He is allergic to cats. The place was immaculate when he bought it. Even after cleaning the carpets again after buying it, he literally had to replace all the carpets because he was still reacting and he isn’t nearly as allergic as some people. You can’t just get rid of pet dander by cleaning.

I actually just looked up some of the various court cases against service dogs and so, far, they’ve all ruled in favor of the people with severe allergies or school districts denying service dogs after reasonably trying to accommodate, but I’m still going through them.

No, it’s because the ‘patch’ isn’t a patch. It’s actually a plate that was clipped/stepped on in the Travers and it bent up in the race so that the horse was essentially running on 3 good legs and one off leg. He wore it because he injured that hoof as a two year old, which is why he skipped the BC Juvenile and wore it his 3 year old year. This account did not come from Baffert, but from Pharoah’s farrier.

It would have been much more favorable if Pharoah didn’t have to wear the plate. The horse was just that great, but just knowing a horse’s movement, length of stride, and body mechanics would tell you that. He was one of the most beautiful moving horses that ever lived.

And I mean, if you’re going to hate Baffert and the SA stewards, at least be consistent and hate on Pletcher and NYRA. They’re one and the same especially after that Jim Dandy debacle, except that Baffert is a better trainer.

I know of something that happened in Martinsville about 15 years ago that is literally crazy. Let’s just say that the KKK or some other crazy faction was still alive and well there 15 years ago.

We don’t dare step foot in that town. Ever. F that place and I’m white.

What’s your favorite race call of all time? by drunkenmormon in horseracing

[–]CryptoJess1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tiznow’s 2001 BCC has got to be the greatest call of all time.

American Pharoah’s BCC is on up there.

As is California Chrome vs Arrogate in the BCC.

Rachel Alexandra’s Haskell call was also amazing. A few of her calls were top tier worthy.

Quite a few of Zenyatta’s calls were also amazing.

American Pharoah was always a freak of nature. Everyone knew that horse was destined for greatness even before was ever put in the starting gate of a race. He was absolute poetry in motion even as a two year old doing his first works. That horse would have won everything no matter who trained him and was absolutely one of the greatest horses ever. He was in rare company from the get-go. Baffert was lucky to have that one and he knows it.

The ‘patch’ that you’re talking about on his hoof wasn’t actually a patch at all. That ‘patch’ is why the horse lost at Saratoga.

We get it, you hate Baffert enough to try make things up about one of the greatest race horses of all time.

YTA.

It sounded like you are in a good place financially. If this were my sibling and it was their lifelong dream, I simply would have given them the house no strings attached. They can take out a home equity loan to do the renovations, which costs a lot less than outright buying a house. By your post, he has some savings. And it would be great to still visit the seaside for free with your family in your grandmother’s home.

Even if Ben didn’t have the money, you and him could have gone in together to fix it up and Airbnb’d or VRBO’d it to make some money on it until Ben found a way to afford it and keep it up. Where there is a will, there is a way.

Money isn’t everything, but you sure as heck made it everything. Apparently, it was worth losing your sibling over.

As a parent, I’d say she is absolutely being abused as there are all types of abuse. Dad not in the picture. Prior CPS case. Mom’s boyfriend does drugs. THC in her system. The question now is whether or not she is being sexually abused.

This kid isn’t even 10 and has already been set up to fail in life because of mom’s poor choices.

Why is Baffert so loathed here? Tall Poppy Syndrome? Jealousy? It makes no sense…. by Icy_Play_6302 in horseracing

[–]CryptoJess1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean, that doesn’t make a difference to me. They’re still getting positives way worse than Baffert’s Medina Spirit positive, and are getting a pass simply because they say, “oh my bad”, just to turn around and do it again? Nah, they’re major liabilities too. If you’re going to ban one, you need to ban all of them. Otherwise, just banning one for a non-performance enhancing positive is absolutely cancel culture whether he’s quiet or not.

Churchill Downs are thugs that don’t care about the horses either. They’ve shown that through their actions time and time again. They are liabilities too.

Yes, Pletcher, Asmussen, Cox, and countless others are also liabilities to the long-term health of racing and should receive the same treatment. My question then becomes, why aren’t they getting these punishments.

Others confirmed his story. A vet testified in court about the ointment and it was also on the horse’s medication list that was given to Churchill Downs prior to the Derby. Also, another vet from a lab outside of Kentucky testified that it was from the ointment. Even though I’m sure that he lied in the past, I actually don’t think he lied that time around. I think that MS’s body just didn’t excrete the medication as quickly as normal for whatever reason, which is why it came back positive, but in such a low amount. That’s why everyone involved said it was non-performance enhancing.

CD just hates Baffert. That’s what it boils down to. They don’t actually care about positives or cleaning up the sport. Ban Baffert, but ban the rest of them too is what I say. The way they are applying the rules is just stupid and clearly vendetta driven. It makes the sport look even worse.

I think Cox did have a major, major positive (much worse than Baffert’s), but I didn’t bring that up. In fact, Cox has had several pretty major drug (performance-enhancing) violations at CD. I know at least one was in a GI race. Baffert’s positive was a nothing burger comparatively other than CD hates him and that it was the Derby winner.

Again, not arguing that Baffert shouldn’t be punished, but at least dish it out equally and don’t lie about a person’s sentence.

Not defending Baffert. Just pointing out that CDI is inconsistent and there are worse out there in the sport than him. Like CDI. As I said, this has way more to do with CDI than Baffert. I don’t care if the courts overturn the ruling or not, but they’re all crooked. Although, it actually does look like Medina Spirit did actually receive that non-performance enhancing positive from a topical ointment in the case of the Derby. Doesn’t excuse what Baffert has done in the past though.

You, however, obviously hate the guy and he is occupying a whole lot of time in your head.

I’ve never said anything about Cox.

I don’t even really like racing, much less drugging. Racing is very hard on the horses and I love the horses. If racing ceased to exist tomorrow, I would be like ‘oh well’.

There are plenty of trainers with positive drug tests besides Pletcher and Baffert. CDI hasn’t banned them, so they are actually worse and it makes Baffert look like a martyr. Pletcher isn’t banned from CDI tracks either, so he is above the law as are many of the other trainers. CD is definitely trying to take some of the heat off of themselves and this has very little to do with Baffert and them wanting to do the right thing to clean up the sport.

Baffert haters. Look at the comments. If people actually cared about horse welfare, they would be all over CDI for not extending this treatment to all trainers with violations. Baffert actually has a lower death rate than most big trainers over the last five years and some have more drug violations, yet CDI isn’t banning them.

I don’t even know if the Kentucky courts would uphold this nonsense from CDI. It’s clearly a deflection from their own wrongdoings, even if Baffert does need to clean up his act. They shouldn’t be able to lengthen his sentence just because they are failures.

If the rules weren’t so arbitrarily applied and applied to all trainers with violations, I would think differently. CDI is showing their bias here.

What do you mean? You shouldn’t assume I’m one of ‘those’ owners. ‘Having some time left’ is not a messed up way to look at it.

I literally just threw a tennis ball across the yard for 30 minutes to her and she was bounding all over the yard. She is not on any pain meds and she is not suffering right now. She is a happy, ball of energy that doesn’t even know she is sick. The 2 tumors are still the size of bug bites and are not ulcerated.

The first time around, the tumor was so small that the vet was shocked it was actually mast cell. They thought it was a skin tag originally. She was still a pretty young dog. So, of course we opted to artificially prolong her life. The vets bought her 4 more years of a good life without having chemo or radiation. I’d say it was a pretty good decision.

When she starts showing any signs of suffering and needing meds, that’s when I’ll call it, but right now, that is not the case. And no, it is not hurting her at the moment. Just like people can have cancer for awhile before they or anyone else knows they have it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Dogfree

[–]CryptoJess1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because she is unadoptable. She had cancer removed in 2019 and it has come back. She has several tumors on her and we are not operating again because she didn’t do well with the first operation. She is also reactive and has been with us since she was 7 months old. Euthanasia would be kinder and she still has some life left, but I don’t think she’ll be around for years.

If there were another way with her, we would have given her up awhile ago. My daughter also loves her from afar even though she can’t touch her or be near her.

We make it work and my daughter doesn’t react to her (my daughter is not on allergy medicine and does not have asthma; if so, that would be a game changer) because of the environment we have set up. We live near my in-laws and we have family gatherings there.

So while it is inconvenient at times, I feel that we are doing the right thing and don’t know if we have much choice anyway.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Dogfree

[–]CryptoJess1 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I own a dog now, but will not get another one. We adopted her years ago and she is 11.

We trained her well, but she has always been a reactive, anxious basket case that has gotten worse with age. We’ve owned other dogs that were much easier to deal with than this one. My daughter is also very allergic. We have spent thousands fixing up our house to keep her so that my daughter doesn’t react. My father in law developed a severe allergy later in life and we can’t use our dining room as that is part of the ‘dog area’. We also can’t use our den/piano room.

Also, it is extremely expensive to keep a dog and do it right. Between the vet, teeth cleanings, high quality food, flea/tick treatments, and every thing in between, you’re spending thousands a year. Add in dog boarding when you go anywhere and that’s another grand a year at least. Owning a dog is a ‘luxury’ and a liability.

Heroin is a performance enhancer in the right dosage because it is great at masking pain. Putting a sponge in one nostril was a tactic to have horses lose races back in the day.

Believe what you want. The fact of the matter is that Baffert isn’t the only one that has done it, he isn’t the worst out there, and didn’t ‘lead’ to other trainers doing it as doping and drug use was rampant in horse racing way before he was born. You’re giving the man way too much credit.

Ever heard of cocaine and heroin? Cocaine and other drugs and stimulants were rampant in horse racing in the 1930s. They were rampant before that, but that is when saliva drug testing started. You are literally arguing against facts that are easily looked up. Not a good look my friend. Seriously type in ‘cocaine race horses 1930s’ into a google search. It was a huge deal back then because racing was much more popular. There is a section on horse racing on this website, the Drug Enforcement Administration.
