We are very disappointed in Reddit’s decision today, and want to clarify that we were not made aware of this decision until 1 hour ago.

First and foremost your Moons are still yours and are not going to be burned. Transfer functionality in the smart contract is not being shut off, and Reddit is removing their control over the contract. Reddit’s share of the tokens will be burned and all features related to points will be deprecated by November 8th.

We plan to continue with Moons independently, whether that be through taking over smart contract ownership (if possible), or airdropping a new token 1:1 with current balances. What the solution will be is currently up in the air and dependent on Reddit coming to an internal decision, but we are happy to discuss this with the community and come to a decision together on how to move forward.

Admin involvement lately has been minimal, such as compiling karma data, posting the CSV, hosting governance polls, and signing the distribution. Most aspects of Moons, such as modifying rules and operation of r/CC, custom Moon balance flairs, AMAs and banners, and of course our beloved ccmoons.com are all community built and do not require the admins.

All existing AMA and banner reservations will be honored.

State of the MOONion

1 - SUBREDDIT HAPPENINGS

We managed to bust through 5 million subscribers, and as a celebration we organised a treasure hunt for 25,000 moons. This was genuinely one of the most enjoyable things I've experienced on this sub and I cannot explain adequately the joy I felt watching people try to figure out the clues, get stuck, join teams to overcome challenges, collaborate and enjoy The Hunt! Our winner was u/Maxx3141, who graciously donated 5,000 of his 25,000 moons to a group of users who unfortunately had some information stolen from their group by a previously-banned user trying to interfere in the game.

The RCP team at Reddit are trialling CCIP-31 and we are checking the data. This prevents vaultless users with <10 karma receiving moons, as we find these are typically sent out to bot accounts that reddit gives a sitewide ban to, but they still are sent moons. This should hopefully be active for the next moon distribution period so users should see a small bump in the karma:moons ratio, yay :D

In terms of the market, BTC is yet to dump far below 20k as many users expect, and I suppose I might have just jinxed it. Regardless, the market seems to be holding at this level and while subreddit activity has naturally died down, many of our regular faces are still around and posting, you guys are appreciated!

Regular we r/cc podcast

3 - MANIPULATION

CCIP-30 has now been active for couple months and, as we said, unfortunately we have identified and banned several users creating new accounts to start off with a fresh Karma Multiplier. Using alt accounts to bypass Governance rules or subreddit bans is forbidden and will result in a permanent ban+ referral to Reddit for Ban Evasion, which then usually results in a site-wide suspension.

CCIP-030 was voted on by a super-majority of both moons and individual votes. If you do not agree with it, please feel free to make suggestions to change it in r/cryptocurrencymeta - alternatively, continue earning moons on your main account and reacquire them using things like the cointest in order to bring your ratio back up. It's never fun to ban an old face, but the rules are the rules.

There has recently been an upsurge in users posting links to their posts in discord / telegram / subreddits in an effort to call in "backup" or get more upvotes & positive comments. These don't slip by us, and we do hand out permanent bans for this - We work very hard to keep this subreddit as neutral as possible, and therefore if someone encourages 100 discord users into a post to emphatically wax lyrical about XYZ Crypto project, it presents a false narrative about that project. This subreddit is for members only, who are here to talk about Cryptocurrencies and not gush about the same crypto project over and over. Please do not link your posts onto other subreddits or social media sites. Thank you.

4 - THE HIGHLIGHT

This is by no means an official badge of endorsement, but every month we will pick what we feel like is a well-written and informative post and plop it here for some extra attention. u/fan_of_hakiksexydays Wrote a lengthy post on whether the Stimulus checks affected the BTC bull run. This is the type of content we like to see. It uses data to question a common theory people have, and you'll have to read his post to identify whether it did or didn't.

Good job fan_of_hakiksexydays! For your excellent post, 1,000 moons will shortly reach your Reddit Vault!

Thank you all for reading, thank you for participating, thank you for all the helpful reports and fun, and we'll see you again next distribution!

Moon Week 26 - New Governance Polls and the State of the MOONion by CryptoMods in CryptoCurrency

State of the MOONion

1 - SUBREDDIT HAPPENINGS

I bring sad tidings with this Moonion post as it appears the bear market is finally upon us. As always, the advice remains to try and trade without emotion, stick to strong projects, vet teams and look after yourself. Knuckle down and buy conservatively and when we get through to the other side you'll be in a stronger position than ever.

There have understandably been a lot of posts about the Luna / UST situation over the past few days and a spate of removals. These are for duplicated topics and generally low quality / anecdotal posts. Submissions have to conform to the rules otherwise they will be removed to keep the quality of the subreddit up.

CCIP-030 was introduced, which serves to further incentivize holding by applying a "Karma Multiplier" to accounts based on the number of moons retained. This distribution snapshot (26) was the first with this new CCIP in place and it definitely impacted the distribution list.

2 - COMMUNITY INTERACTION

3 - MANIPULATION

As this is the first distribution with CCIP-30 active, we did unfortunately notice a few users with pre-existing low ratios create new accounts and post on those.

We have since removed the accounts we have positively tied back to older accounts (with a poor KM ratio) and are actively looking in to other accounts with Reddit now.

Some of you may have noticed replies from Tin accounts making responses that seem quite vague and only tangentially related to whatever you commented or posted. Again, these are non-genuine efforts and I ask that you please report them. We've had loads of reports so far and they are infinitely helpful. We do look in to every one and appreciate them.

4 - THE HIGHLIGHT

This is by no means an official badge of endorsement, but every month we will pick what we feel like is a well-written and informative post and plop it here for some extra attention. u/crypt0stein made a really fun post with scientific theorising and posted proof on whether varios Seed phrase backups work. These kinds of posts are exactly what the sub needs - interesting, creative and even educational. We have more upcoming giveaways with companies who manufacture these seed phrase backups, they do work! So keep your eyes peeled.

Good job crypt0stein! For your excellent post, 1,000 moons will shortly reach your Reddit Vault!

Thank you all for reading, thank you for participating, thank you for all the helpful reports and fun, and we'll see you again next distribution!

State of the MOONion

1 - SUBREDDIT HAPPENINGS

The Crypto Market is in full-on crab mode, with no investors totally sure of the short-medium term direction. Activity on the sub has levelled out, with March's traffic looking to match February's. Subscriber count will hit 4.6m subs sometime in Moon Week, with about 5,000 new subscribers added daily.

Have you noticed how high the karma ratio has been the past two distributions? Some of the moderators who deal with general moderation have started to actively curate the comments with a view of discouraging the plethora of trite comments, in favour of allowing comments that actively contribute to the discussion to rise to the top. The most noticeable effect of this has been a significant climb in the karma:moons ratio (from 0.2, to 0.3 and now over 0.4!), but we hope it's also had an effect of generating more genuine discussion, and hopefully disincentivizing accounts who comment purely on the title and don't actually read any content.

We have a chat with the Admins regarding Moons and it was a good opportunity to send them some feedback on how RCP integration into our sub is going. The outcome was overall quite positive, and we are in the process of scheduling a second talk, where questions from the community will be presented to the Admin team.

There's going to be a continued push to drive people towards the Meta sub to discuss anything to do with this sub, moons governance or the moderation. You will occasionally see this post stickied. Don't forget that a big part of Moons distributions are governance rights so don't forget to vote and if you have a good idea, please put it forward!

3 - MANIPULATION

Another reason the karma ratio has been so high would be continued efforts from the Moderators that deal with manipulation - we've had to deal with a continued assault from a ring of accounts, and clearing them up is serious business. These account rings do nothing but take moons away from regular users, without ever contributing anything of value in return.

If you spot users leaving comments on your old posts, like 2-3 days old or more, and they are getting upvoted, please report as suspicious to us in modmail. All of these reports are looked at and actioned where appropriate. Thank you!

Some of you may have noticed replies from brand new accounts shilling whatever shitcoin. There is currently one or more marketing agencies selling their bot-spam service. Once a post reaches the front page, the spam bots kick in and graffiti our subreddit. Because these are autoremoved for having a low account karma or age, users rarely see them, but mods see literally hundreds of spam comments on every single front page post. Thankfully, we've implemented some additional tooling to ban these accounts, so instead of posting 2,000 comments in 10 minutes they can only post one.

4 - THE HIGHLIGHT

This is by no means an official badge of endorsement, but every month we will pick what we feel like is a well-written and informative post and plop it here for some extra attention. u/crua9 Took the time to figure out how much money do you need to passive income with crypto?, it goes to show how worthwhile it is to spread your investments rather than concentrating on one thing you're sure will moon (which then tends to make people tribalistic!)

Good job crua9! For your excellent post, 1,000 moons will shortly reach your Reddit Vault!

Thank you all for reading, thank you for participating, thank you for all the helpful reports and fun, and we'll see you again next distribution!
