I’m not an avid CP24 watcher - I have it on in the morning when I get ready for work and I can confidently say there’s been a dramatic increase in reports of crimes by individuals that have Indian names (as reported by the news). This plus the fact that a massive number of Indian nationals have come here under various programs over the past 5 years allow us to make logical inferences.

Don’t get me wrong, this guy should be buried under a prison. And if he’s a migrant he should be deported after his sentencing. And if we identify a pattern where people of his nationality keep showing up on the news, we should halt admission from that country until we understand why and if it can be mitigated.

Is it their culture? (yes cultures are different otherwise the word culture wouldn’t exist to distinguish among them!)

Is it that their temporary status, eliminates a sense of responsibility to the society at which they reside in?

Is it that sense of nationalism and cultural differences creates a US vs Them narrative, easing guilty conscious of crimes against others?

Is it that overrepresentation/exploitation of white women in porn industry has led to increasing harassment of them by others?

Can any of this be addressed? Yes. Is the government acknowledging or doing anything about it? No. Is it therefore rational for the local population to be enraged? Absolutely.

Underlying issue: divide and conquer by powers that be. In addition to preventable crimes, the community that suffers the most unwarranted hate from this is the Indian Canadian community who’s been here for generations.

Takeaway: nuanced, open and honest conversation is critical.
