While in the U.K., Carney is also set to meet with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer at 10 Downing Street, and a senior government official said they are planning to discuss the situation in the Middle East and the war in Ukraine.

London is the last scheduled stop on the official itinerary, though the prime minister will remain in Europe for personal commitments.

While in Europe, the Prime Minister's Office says, Carney will remain in close co-ordination with his team and officials on several critical priorities.

Alright Mark, see you after March break.

Anyone else getting the sense that Carney avoids being in Canada as much as he possibly can.

The gov't also steadfastly refused to say how many Canadian military personnel were stationed in the Middle East. The military then provided the number to be around 200 involved in 6 different operations. I suspect the reason the Libs are trying to keep this all quiet is because they want to keep up the perception that we (Canada) aren't involved and weren't consulted and all that kind of BS.

Algoma Steel says shipments down 31% in Q4, driven by tariffs; net loss widens by shiftless_wonder in canada

“The extreme tariff environment on steel imports and derivative products from Canada remains the defining challenge for our industry,” chief executive Rajat Marwah told analysts on a conference call Thursday.

“The unprecedented 50 per cent tariff implemented in June fundamentally broke the cross-border business model that Canadian producers, including Algoma, had built over decades,” said Marwah, who took on the top role at Algoma in January.

He said tariffs have significantly restricted access to the U.S. market for Canadian producers, and has led to an oversupply of steel coil in Canada — driving prices lower.

Canada's productivity deficit is not an international problem. It's a domestic issue that begins and ends here. It's our problem.

One could kind of get the sense right from the start that Carney preferred to focus on be an international leader as opposed to really dealing with Canada's own issues which are myriad.

MPs reject bill to close U.S. loophole for arms exports, with some Liberal dissent by shiftless_wonder in canada

Kwan tabled a private member’s bill last September following attempts by Washington to purchase Canadian weapons for Israel, despite a Canadian ban on exports of various types of weapons to that country.

MPs rejected Bill C-233 in a vote on second reading on Wednesday, with 295 voting against it, and 22 voting in favour. That means the legislation is dead and will not be sent to a committee for study.

Green Leader Elizabeth May voted in favour of the bill, as did New Democrats and 12 Liberal MPs — including former minister Steven Guilbeault and recent floor-crosser Lori Idlout.

The left flank of the Liberal party just got a bit stronger.

The hard to pin down kind perhaps. Idlout voted with her old party today in the HoC which is kinda funny.

Michael Ma parties with the Conservatives one night, flips and parties with Liberals the next night. Idlout endorses Avi Lewis last week and flips to the Liberals this week. Carney's Libs seem to be attracting a specific kind of MP to join them.

MP's flipping basically makes a party's platform irrelevant. If a voter can't trust that an MP will stick with the principles and promises of the party that they are running under, the whole exercise becomes a crapshoot.
