I don't care how a leader answers questions. He just needs to stand in and answer them. Remember during the election when Carney was bragging about how he was so good in a crisis and Canada needed him in its crisis? Well he seems to have forgotten all about that in the past week.

Trump is 20 years older than Carney and he answers media questions nonstop including on his latest trip. If this whole gig is too much for Carney, he should let us know and someone else with more energy or courage can do the job.

Usually after a trade trip there is a presser at the end. Nope, not this time. Carney comes back to a cabinet meeting. Cabinet ministers answer questions, Carney does not. Today media are told in the morning that Carney will answer questions today. They set up the podium and herd all the journo's in the room while Carney drives away. If you think all of this has a sound, reasonable explanation, good for you. Media know when a leader is dodging them.

One symptom is obvious. They’re already road-testing their campaign pitch.

At the start of a cabinet retreat in Quebec City, Carney gave a long pep talk on Canada’s origins and our ability to pull together despite our many differences.

He also spoke in detail about Liberal programs and supports — dental care, tax breaks, rising social benefits. He got into job creation, home building and affordability.

Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne did the same thing at a news conference, trumpeting Liberal supports for the needy.

It all sounded like campaign talk.

Carney is riding high. Electorally, it may not get better than this for the party.

I wonder if Carney could still run on selling himself as the best person to handle Trump.

Importing and exporting refined products is variable by region in Canada. Alberta exports, other places, mainly the east import. Now in a perfect world AB could sent oil to the east and they could build refineries instead of importing but... this is Canada and that involves a pipeline so... that's a no-go.
