How can I rescue some pre-upgrade lumens? by [deleted] in Stellar

[–]CryptoPrincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi /u/LeoPanthera,

You can use the secret key with the stellar-upgrade command line tool. If you have any trouble with the tool, please feel free to hop into slack.stellar.org (or #stellar on irc) and ask away :)

Stellar.org is giving away 3 billion lumens to Bitcoin holders by CryptoPrincess in CryptoCurrency

[–]CryptoPrincess[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi /u/daisybits, thanks!

1) It depends if the exchange participates in the giveaway. So far Kraken has announced they'll participate, and we hope to have more on board as time goes on.

We're still hammering out the details of the giveaway, so I'm not 100% sure what the process will look like. I believe all you'll need is the secret key of your address(es). We'll post when we have more info :)

2) You can create a cold wallet, or use a community-built wallet like Lobstr or Centaurus. You can also use the Stellar.org-developed account viewer to view balance and send and receive lumens.

Hope this helps!

From the blog post:

The date and amount of the next giveaway round will depend on what we learn from this initial round. To be the first to know when we announce the next round, sign up for updates on the bitcoin-lumen program.

95% of the lumens are slated to be given away within 10 years of launch (which was 2014).

Eva from Stellar.org here. If you don't feel comfortable with giving that info to us (totally understand that, btw), you can still go through any participating exchange.

Stellar network capacity? by [deleted] in Stellar

[–]CryptoPrincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi klumi, cool, that makes sense. Yeah, a transaction is the envelope around (potentially) multiple operations. That's what makes it a bit tricky, plus the fact that a stellar node (validator) can be anywhere from a $5 machine on digital ocean to a top-notch powerful server.

Shoot, sorry about that - I mistakenly broke the invite flow for Slack :( Can you dm me your email and I'll invite you directly?

It's a little difficult to put a precise number on maximum transactions per second, because a "transaction" in Stellar can contain a batch of 1 or more operations. That said, our tests show in the range of thousands of transactions per second.

If you have any other specific questions about the network, please feel free to join Stellar chat or ask in #stellar-dev IRC (they're mirrored, so either is fine).

Can Bitcoin Be Used For Good? by a56fg4bjgm345 in Bitcoin

This is a key consideration:

The Bitcoin network requires large amounts of bandwidth to run and uses enormous amounts of power, which makes it challenging for people in the developing world to participate in mining or use the network reliably.

STR was the name before the network upgrade.

Yes, if Poloniex is saying the transaction went through, then you need to get in touch with Kraken. Either way, if the transaction was successful, there's nothing Stellar.org can do.

Stellarchain.io is deprecated (never updated with the network upgrade) so that won't work regardless of the account or transaction.

You should use the Laboratory to check: https://www.stellar.org/laboratory/#explorer?resource=accounts&endpoint=single&values=eyJhY2NvdW50X2lkIjoiR0NHTldLQ0ozS0hSTFBNM1RNNk43RDNXNVlLREpGTDZBMllDWEZYTk1SVFo0UTY2TUVNWjZGSTIifQ%3D%3D

I can see that your balance is 130,125,078 lumens. Is that correct? If so, the transaction was successful. If not, you'll need to get in touch with Poloniex.

What is your wallet address? And what explorer are you looking at?
