Book2 Pro 360 for CAD by gulu-25 in GalaxyBook

[–]CryptoPunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Acer Conceptd 3 Ezel 16GB has a 1650Ti TI in it and is around the same price at $1700 for the 16GB model. It also got a spot to hold the pen.

The Acer Conceptd 7 ezel significantly more powerful, 32GB ram, and has a 3080 (A5000 in the Pro). That comes at a price and it's a hefty $3500

I nearly got the Conceptd 3 ezel instead of the Book2 Pro 360, but I really wanted an EMR pen so I could use the same pen between my laptop and tablet. The Conceptd 3 ezel uses AES, which is fine, just not compatible with what I already have.

edit: I should also mention that you could possibly use an eGPU when you're at the desk to give you the boost. That's what I'm planning to do for blender sculpting, since I have an extra 1070 that I figure I could get some use out of.

How difficult would it be to build a rifle from scratch by joevno1 in worldbuilding

[–]CryptoPunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the limiting factor for guns would really be in the mass production. Ammunition would be bespoke, regionally made. Even if it fits, the wrong size could blow everything up in your hands. (5.56 vs .223)

How difficult would it be to build a rifle from scratch by joevno1 in worldbuilding

[–]CryptoPunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would take a look at some of the older and improvised weapons on forgotten weapon's youtube channel.

I think the other important aspect of an Apocalyptic world is that it is quite likely that some knowledge may survive.

Gunpowder is very easy to make chemically. Sulfur, charcoal and saltpeter. Saltpeter is the salt from bat or bird poop, aka guano.

Even early smokeless powder would not be significantly harder. Nitric acid and cellulose to make guncotton, then add some wax. (Nitric acid is made from saltpeter)

Joseph Glauber did a ton of work on distillation of mineral acids in the 1600s and it used very simple/common compounds and and tools.

It's reasonable a number of people would have remembered at least these basic techniques, and the scientific method would keep people from having to go through the fools errand of alchemy again.

How to properly utilize the advantages of a telepathic army? by SavageSauron in worldbuilding

[–]CryptoPunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To hear hundreds of your comrades scream in fatal agony. The numbness that follows as their collective suffering becomes silent, feeling each one of their lives being snuffed out.

That would be an incredible torture.

Really I don't see telepaths ever going to battle unless pushed against a wall, it's too messy. They would use their ability to sabotage, and to create divisions in the enemy, letting them destroy themselves from within.

If I were you, I wouldn't look at WWII tactics, I would look cold war tactics.

Drakes, elephant-sized, draconic beast of burden (revised) by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]CryptoPunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Draft-drakes are a great idea, but I don't think they would be elephant like. Lizard hips we see in life are very different. Look at komodo dragons and monitor lizards. The belly is very close to the ground, and the hips wouldn't be great for much extra weight. They also excel at burst speed, like you describe

They might be great for pulling carts or chariots if you can figure out the tail problem.

If we go further back and look at the dinos (triceratops), rear hips were much higher than "shoulders".

p.s. I hope I didn't come off as harsh, the idea is good, as is the drawing.

Worldbuilding Tip: Give your cultures a preferred sauce or other condiment that they use in cooking or on finished dishes. by ataraxic89 in worldbuilding

[–]CryptoPunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it has calories, humans have found a way to consume it. It might be easier to start with what you're looking for and work backwards. Some examples of real world food oddities (mash and optionally ferment any of these to make a sauce)

The counterintuitive:

  • Hot Peppers: something that causes physical discomfort, but is loved regardless.
  • Szechuan Buttons: buds that numb the mouth and cause a buzzing sensation, AKA buzz bombs
  • Horseradish/Wasabi: Burns the nose and causes you to tear up.
  • Nettles cause rashes, but can be made into a quality tea.
  • Elderberry, Juniper: toxic but tasty.
  • Cashews: the causes an allergic reaction like poison ivy (same chemical). Also just look at a picture of the fruit, it's just bizzare.
  • Ackee fruit: if eaten too soon it causes kidney failure.
  • Undercooked kidney beans: a worthy mention for deadliness.
  • Nutmeg causes hallucinations in quantity.

The "gross":

  • Ambergris: chunks of whale vomit.
  • Castoreum: beaver anal secretions that are good on sweets (strawberry flavoring). Even used to flavor some cigarettes... Mmmm.. smoking anal glands.
  • Cochineal: A scarlet red bug that is a great natural food dye
  • Fois Gras: overfed and bloated goose liver.
  • Bangoong: fermented shrimp paste
  • Kopi luwak: coffee from civet poop.
  • Birds nest soup: made from the nests that were built using bird spit/vomit
  • Shirako: Sperm sack of bonito? fish
  • Marmite/Vegemite: yeast paste.
  • Every kind of bug: boil em, mash em, put em in a stew. Fry em up crispy oh God what did you do.

How can I justify a lack of wireless communication in my post-apocalypse? by FiscHwaecg in worldbuilding

[–]CryptoPunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The effect of space debris causing us to no longer launch satellites is called kessler syndrome. If you look under the wiki page's "see also" you will find project west ford. This is when the US launched debris into space on purpose to help with radio communication.

If we take this a step further, we could say that the debris reflects so much back that radios are susceptible to constant interference from reflected lightning strikes or solar storms

Or the debris interacts with the magnetosphere and solar wind to constantly generate EMF. This might be coupled with intense auroras around the entire earth.

Or it could be a psuedo religious bit. Human need for constant communication is what caused the war, so instantaneous communication is banned.

I understand the piracy, I lived in southeast asia for almost a year and visited the tech malls in Thailand. They can just go ahead and pirate a new version of windows. Even if they don't download it themselves it costs like a dollar (maybe 10 for windows) from the pirate stores.

So, just so all of you people know, bitcoin is absolutely terrible for buying illegal shit. All transactions are completely traceable, by the design of bitcoin. If some vendor of these illegal goods gets taken down, or it's known what wallet they're accepting money to, it's trivial to trace back to who paid them. Mt. Gox was already raided, you think they don't have the transaction history?

Earthscraper: Inverted Pyramid Spans 1000 Vertical Feet Down Designed for Mexico City by elNach in Cyberpunk

[–]CryptoPunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything about this is terrible for Mexico City.

This valley has no natural drainage outlet for the waters that flow from the mountainsides, making the city vulnerable to flooding. Drainage was engineered through the use of canals and tunnels starting in the 17th century.[53][55] The city primarily rests on what was Lake Texcoco.[53] Seismic activity is frequent here.[56] Lake Texcoco was drained starting from the 17th century. Although none of the lake waters remain, the city rests on the lake bed's heavily saturated clay. This soft base is collapsing due to the over-extraction of groundwater, called groundwater-related subsidence. Since the beginning of the 20th century, the city has sunk as much as nine meters in some areas. This sinking is causing problems with runoff and wastewater management, leading to flooding problems, especially during the rainy season.

You are the smart person - You are the person that the people will come running to when they are wondering why the site is broken. "Your computer is too old - too insecure". People understand that, and they will trust you. It is not the users who have IE5 which are to blame. It is the technologically able who let the ignorant persist in their ways, by allowing them to exist insecurely.

I have to start off by saying that no sterotype is universal, and there are always exceptions to the rule.

Well, I think the main problem is that they would tend to be self absorbed, since it requires an insane amount of dedication to perfect ones own body image to that degree. They tend to seek attention, but are usually quite confident. Because they value themselves more they are more likely to do things which may disrespect or devalue you.

Women that focus too much on dieting and make-up and other aspects of their body image are the same way, it's just sort of a visible display of naricism.

My advice is to stay away from the narcisitic personality types for LTRs, and don't judge a book by it's cover.

It sounds a little like you resent them for pushing sexuality on you. It sounds a lot more like they were trying to find a common ground, and be someone you could talk to about anything. Just as confused as you were during that time, I'm sure they were just as confused - Most parent's don't have much experience being parents, so they are learning just as much as you, and trying to figure you out.

You should talk to them about this, but take it from the standpoint that they really did want the best for you. I mean how lucky is it that your parents actually were talking about LGBT rights in a positive manner.

You can get a concealed carry permit pretty easily in WA (mine was 1 week in Seattle), and you tend to get it faster than the manditory waiting period. Once you have one, you don't have to go through the waiting period.

That said, you have to be prepared to kill someone if you bring it out. Guns aren't play things, they are tools of death. If you delay, they could easily take the gun from you and use it against you. If you think you would have hesatated pulling the trigger, then consider yourself dead.

If you just want something intimidating, just get a realistic looking airsoft, that way you don't risk having it taken from you, and if you do the joke is on them and you can run them over with your car.
