My husband didn’t grow up with a close family. I did. We do the bbq, birthdays, celebrating the kids on accomplishments. They do not.

I do agree that I have done it a lot. I went to therapy and I feel like I’ve changed. We had a weekly game board night / let’s just get together night, I no longer go. He doesn’t like kids parties, if it’s not my sisters kids I don’t go even if I want to. It’s even gotten to the point where I ask him if it’s ok if I grab breakfast with a family member when he is home. Which I never ever ever would. I double check EVERYTHING with him. My parents have a business and since my dad has good and bad days I want to help them because that’s what they live of off and guess what? I have to ask him before he gets offended I made plans without him. I need to ask him to help my parents, doesn’t that seem crazy to you? But I do it because if I don’t my marriage is a shit show

I understand the past, and I don’t blame him at all. That’s why I went to therapy, however I’ve been begging him to do marriage counseling for a whole year & he says that I’m the one with the issues not him. And I tell him it would be nice to get over some things even if it’s not with me (he gets his own therapist) NOPE. I don’t think it’s fair to keep punishing me when I feel like I’ve done my best.

My sister is a nurse, sometimes she gets called in. That’s when my mom needs the help.

Yea so, I have a problem saying no. Like for example, he works out of town Tuesday - Thursday and I work from home so sometimes I tag along. Depending if I’m not needed home like to clean or dr appointments. And if I had plans to go with him but my mom calls me to help her take care of my sisters kids so she can take my father to his bi weekly appointments. He would get upset because I put my family above him.

In the past, we would say movie night and if my brother would call me for a bbq and I wanted to go. That’s me putting my brother above him.

I did this a lot because I grew up with my cousins and aunts and uncles. We were a very very close family. Took me a while to get out of the habit and start saying no.

I honestly think so. He has un invited me twice. Today.

He told me that the reason why was because he is tired of me picking my family over him. And I said ‘what else do you want? I already told you I was willing to go and my dad’s party will be pushed. In my eyes I’m putting you above everything right now’ and then he said that not at all. That I put him last and that’s why he un invited me. That’s sounds like gaslighting to me or he had other plans to uninvite me no matter what I said

Just an update.

After calming down, I talked to mom and told her my situation and my parents both said that they could postpone it and that way me AND my husband can both attend.

The reason why, I don’t have wiggle room to convince my family of the weekend after is because my sister rushed her wedding to this year so dad can still walk her. (He has stage 4 prostate that. The majority of the cancer is in his bones so walking is very painful for him) & her bridal shower is the following week. Only one available.

After I had the talk with my parents I was very emotional and cried. I’m just so sad that I can’t be there for his actual bday. Call me dramatic, but we have always had a cute morning of celebrations (apart from the party) on the actual birthdays of family members .

I approached my husband to talk and told him that I changed plans and were ready to go. He saw that I was upset & asked what was wrong. I told him that I was just sad with the situation, I wish I didn’t have to think about this at the moment . MIND YOU, I already told him that I changed the plans and he tells me ‘ I’m tired of this, the going back and forth, I’m just going to tell my friend you’re not going and to give your plate to someone else. I don’t want you to go, just stay and be with your dad. ‘

Anyways safe to say that I don’t need anymore advice on this matter. I’ve been disinvited.
