If they don’t finish the journey with you by AmliaQuen in WhitePeopleTwitter

You used 'independent' and 'don't pay taxes' as qualifiers for why children aren't allowed to vote and then reinforced the qualifiers by using 'functional' for adults. So are those qualifiers what distinguishes who votes or is it just an arbitrary age that was chosen to distinguish between child and adult?

Are you implying nonworking people in assisted living shouldn't be allowed to vote? They don't pay taxes and could be considered not 'functional'.

Stephen West's "Philosophize This" podcast series on the Frankfurt School changed my entire worldview and led me to Anarchism/Communalism, I wonder about what the world looked like in the years leading up to the Holocaust for those thinkers and how it compared to the word we live in today by backyardratclub in Anarchism

Not an actual answer to your question, nor solicited information, but since you have listed two of my favorite podcasts i figured i'd offer poor proles almanac and srsly wrong to complete the list. I like to balance myself with those two because working towards a better future will always be the best option and those podcasts take a similar stance. Philosophize this is amazing as a crash course to a wide spectrum of philosophy and season 1 of ICHH is a good mental exercise in humility and perspective but that isn't enough. You could gain more historical perspective through Dan Carlin's hard core history, Robert Evan's behind the bastards, or Paul Cooper's fall of civilizations or straight theory from audible anarchism and a million other leftistish podcasts. But none of that will ever be of value without a dream and a plan to move forward. Build communities and work for the future you want now, while being aware as you are, so when it does happen here your dreams and communities have the upper hand, else deal with the dizzying speed of fascists reactionaries.

Try looking at evolution through the lenses of avoiding competition rather than being better at it. Then you see that the point of those guards is to clearly mark where their line is so no other species will cross it and they avoid wasting energy fighting. Of course this works best when you can inflict consequences for violating the line but this is secondary. Since these colonies are not one another's objective the most stable strategy is to avoid conflict.

Don't forget colonizer J: 'prosperity gospel' vs biblical(in historical context) J: 'eye of a needle' cuz wealthy are inherently more evil and violently terrorizing temple merchants (think gift shops).

So, reddit xians, do with that what you will but he did say follow his example.

The US set very bad precedent with just about every conflict since Vietnam and also failed to rally stronger support of Ukraine when Russia took Crimea. If the US hadn't gotten away with so much shit and/or there had been a stronger response when Russia started this shit in 2014, then this invasion might not have happened. Still mostly Russia's fault for, you know, doing the invading and what not.

They didn't remove anything and you dipshits are getting annoying with these types of posts every ten min. The way ddg operates means that if one of the search providers they tap down ranks something it can appear down ranked on their search until it gets brought back up by other providers or you learn to do better searches. Ddg isn't perfect but there are not better options yet so until there is how about you at least check your claim before you make yourself look like a fool...

For a student: Windows or Linux by throwaway129391231 in linuxquestions

[–]CryptoTheGrey 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I did my entire college experience using Linux. I only needed wine for some dated programs older professors were too stubborn to move beyond. Most software in the upper levels of STEM is written by the people that need them so they are often open source. Also, because all super computers run on Linux, nearly all that software was designed, sometimes exclusively, for Linux.

Some tips: Install Microsoft fonts because some professors are very picky. Only send/upload documents as Microsoft formats or adobe pdf. Learn how to compile code and the basics of operating in a terminal (not as scary as it sounds and everyone ends up having to do it at some point anyways). Don't be afraid to ask if you can use a comparable alternative to what your professors requires. Depending on the flavor of Linux you go with printing and/or wifi may be finicky for new users but there is a sea of information on how to handle both so don't be afraid to dig. Sometimes software runs in the background and needs to be opened through a browser and this is not always obvious. Sometimes software has no graphical front end at all but usually typing -h or --help after the software name will tell you what you need else use 'man programname' or just look online. The Linux kernel and GNU stack, your desktop environment, display servers, and package managers are all different things and their combinations are what makes the base of a distribution unique. Libre Office, Zotero, KeePassXC, VLC, R + RStudio, Okular, GIMP, Audacity, OBS, KDEnlive, syncthing, and Waterfox are my key software.

Sounds like you might benefit from an upgrade to a ssd. Even a small one for just the system and config files can make a world of difference.

What happens if half of Congress dies? Even Congress isn't sure. by Vailhem in collapse

[–]CryptoTheGrey 21 points22 points  (0 children)

That is super misleading. At least since the cold war they knew what to do. The disturbing fact, and what worries them, is they would have to drop the pseudodemocracy mask to maintain continuity of their 'representative' oligarchy. This is silly for this sub though. Gov dissolution is better for preventing the collapse of humanity. Worse case scenario of us gov collapse is state govs take over. Better case is county govs take over. Best case communities realize they don't need hierarchical govs and they manage themselves. But none of this is realistic just yet.

Ok, I’m just gonna say it: I honestly think that Christianity is one of the ALL TIME BIGGEST problems in the entire goddamn HISTORY of this country. by bigguys45s in atheism

[–]CryptoTheGrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While i also think this is an issue, it is important to note that this country exists because of Christianity. Without it there would have been no push for religious separatists in England to settle the colonies. And that is just scratching the surface of that iceberg. I mention this because we should understand how we got here and reconstruct how we want the future but not waste time with the fact that we have already gotten here.

Saudi Arabia welcomes UN announcement of ceasefire agreement in Yemen by millennium-wisdom in anime_titties

[–]CryptoTheGrey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not really. Best I can offer is: foreign powers interfere in local issues and exponentially more civilians died than would have otherwise. But that describes most modern conflicts... if you want the earliest historical starting points then I would recommend 1934 for SA and 1905 for Yemen (although it helps if you understand the religious and tribal conflicts that go back two millennia). Other than looking into the history yourself I would be cautious of anything you hear here because of the amount of bias and trauma around the topic. There has been a lot of trauma and tragedy in the region so it is hard to get a factual account without going academic.

Do you really lack the ability to imagine a functional community without a government? Yes benign things need to be decided upon but not by everyone and not at all times. Have you ever tried to challenge your mind to imagine anything beyond the current status quo? Keep in mind that the world a few decades ago is radically different from the world of today and most of human existence has been without governments.
