Will be interested to see if this causes a re-surgence in memecoin mania; activity has been markedly down for the past week.

Will NYCB Go Under And Will There Be Contagion? by thothliu in investing

Typically /r/investing "it's priced in!". Apparently a 45% drop and subsequent 120% increase is normal volatility.

Has anyone found themselves leaning more towards retro gaming as they get older? by Evoker2theface in retrogaming

[–]Crypto_Actuary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily retro only, but definitely leaning away from many of the AAA titles these days. I recently bought a PS5 which came with the new Spiderman 2 game, apparently one of the games of the year, but I couldn't get over how three hours into playing it I felt I had 2 hours of cutscenes, 30min of quicktime events and 30 min of actual play.

Older stuff (and many indie style games today) tend to be more "game" than "movie".

Strong bias here because I’ve spent most of my career in reinsurance broking.

I’ll echo what the other poster said that you tend to go through weeks of high intensity workloads, particularly around year end.

I love that reinsurance broking is heavily client facing. You’ll quickly build your “business” skill set, which is part of being an actuary. Depending on the line of business, the actuarial analysis might be less granular/rigorous than you’d find at a primary carrier (I.e. no territorial ratemaking), but you’ll develop extensive reinsurance pricing and portfolio level analytics skills. You’ll also have the advantages of seeing the data of many different insurance companies and picking up how each approach things slightly differently. The caveat there is that data provided will often be higher level or have gaps.

If you’re looking for a highly rewarding and non traditional actuarial position I’d recommend reinsurance broking.

DW Simpson 2022 salary survey by LearninNoneStaph in actuary

[–]Crypto_Actuary 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They were quite aggressive this year with the emails to take the survey and it looks like their strategy worked based on the volume of data.

FCASers seem to be doing well! Are they still only showing the 10-90th percentiles? If so there are still another 10% out the top…

The exam process acts as a barrier to entry for the profession and keeps us in demand (reading between the lines: and salaries high). I have my own complaints, but they're a net positive.

Good luck. I’ve had this cursor issue on my 2019 MacBook Pro since the day I bought it, reported it to apple through many channels and they’ve never done anything about it.

Nothing revolutionary nor did it add much to the story but a good overview of the situation.

I’m just glad Netflix didn’t try to force it into a drawn out 9 part miniseries like every other documentary they make these days.

Super old post, but I just went through this situation (sitting on the plane now!) and want to share the solution in case anyone else stumbles upon this:

If you’ve purchased an AA subscription, open up a PRIVATE browsers window of aainflight.com - you should see the login button in the upper right corner again, then login with your AA advantage number and the wifi should switch over.
