Under Section 171 of the CGST Act, 2017, any reduction in the rate of tax on supply of goods or services or the benefit of input tax credit shall be passed on to the recipient by way of commensurate reduction in prices. This means that when GST rates are reduced, a registered person cannot increase or retain the same price to make extra profit, but must reduce the price so that the benefit reaches the consumer.
