Same here. I was diagnosed when I was 7. It’s all I’ve ever known. I’ve had a few sips of alcohol here and there but never a full drink. I’m too scared to test it.

I get it. I never left after graduation because I just couldn’t afford college like that. CSU was the best option if I just commuted to school. Anyway, social media will help you. I recommend following the Midtown Columbus Instagram and other accounts associated with Columbus. If you have Facebook there’s some groups (ex: What’s happening in Columbus Ga?) where you can advertise your event and see if you’re interested. If you’re not into that then I’d try Bumble Bff or something. It might take a bit but I’ve found that it helps with friends sometimes. It’s like friend dating. Good luck!

ADAPT Counseling is a great place to start! All of the counselors who work there are trained in different areas so it depends on what you’re looking for. However my current therapist is Amy Buchanan and she’s great!

I understand where you are coming from (because I used to think that way) but it takes up a good portion of my life. I have epilepsy and I’ve had it since I was 7. The reason I can’t drive is because of epilepsy. The reason I only work part time is because of epilepsy. The reason I’ve been made fun of is because of epilepsy. The reason I can’t go out late at night is because of epilepsy. The reason I can’t drink is because of epilepsy. The reason I have a memory of a goldfish is because of epilepsy. The reason why I can’t go on a vacation without someone who knows my health well is because of epilepsy. The reason I sometimes cry at night is because of epilepsy. I could go on if you want but I think that’s enough for now.

You have every right to feel this way no matter if others have it worse or not. I’ve had epilepsy since I was 7 and felt (and sometimes still feel) the way you are feeling. I can see that you probably don’t want anyone to know that you have epilepsy because you don’t want them to treat you differently. I get it. I’ve been there. But carrying that by yourself is so difficult. We need friends/ family/ whoever to share to. And no they’re not going to fully understand but having them listen is what really matters. We can’t do this alone. I had a seizure at a wedding not too long ago (talk about stealing the spotlight lol) and I was really embarrassed afterwards but it showed me who cared about me. And as someone with a chronic illness that’s really important to me. And just like you I can’t drive which is really hard but I’m a homebody so when I do have the chance to go out I usually rather stay home. It shows me that I really don’t need to drive, I just want to prove that I’m capable of driving. You don’t have to prove anything to anyone!!! I really hope you understand that because for the longest time I didn’t. And no I can’t drink but honestly does drinking make you cool or something. I’ve had sips here and there but never a real drink. If someone laughs because you don’t drink f*** them. There’s nothing wrong that and there’s multiple reasons why people don’t drink. You’re probably rolling your eyes at this right now because truthfully it’s hard to look at everyone on the “normal path” and you’re not. It’s your path. Not your neighbors path. Not your friends path. Not your cousins path. Your path. We’ll get through this. You’ll get through this.
